I had metal put in my gums but I started to develop a reaction such as swelling or face and neck, scratchy throat, itchy skin, leathery discoloration in skin, migraines, diarrhea, tingling of the tongue, difficulty breathing, and rash. The orthodontist wasn’t convinced I was allergic too. After everything was removed the symptoms went away.
Thank you for this information. I had PFA knee replacement 6+ years ago. Result - knee pain much worse than before surgery. Two years ago I got metal patch testing and was told I’m allergic to most metals including titanium. Ugh. I need hip and shoulder replacement too. No orthopedic surgeons I’ve seen including a couple world renowned at Steadman know what to do.
My first knee replacement was removed and now I have a titanium knee. A few months after the first replacement I developed horrible weeping rashes on my legs. My surgeon told me not to worry, the allergic reaction was NOT from the knee hardware. I left him and went for a patch test. Yes, I'm allergic to nickel! Now I am 3 months post knee revision and guess what! No more rashes!
Brilliant video! Doctor, if I ever needed knee replacement, I'd fly to Belgium and have you do it. Or I would just have my leg amputated. Thanks for putting these up dear Sir.
Hey I think about just getting it amputated. I'm 46 my replacement went HORRIBLE with blood clot in POPLITEAL VEIN & part of my calf is damaged, I had a MUA because of severe scar tissue growth stiffness & now I've got nerve pain around the whole knee w/arthrofibrosis..I go to PT still 4 months later & I don't know how much longer I can take the pain & discomfort. I hope yours goes Very well!!
I think I’m having an issue with my titanium plate and screws that were put in my foot on March 1st. Going to Al’s for allergy testing. Thank you for this info!
My knee surgeon never asked me if I have metal allergies before my transplant. I think I'm allergic to nickel though. Can't wear nickel jewelry! Break out!?
Any informations regarding the spinal fusion material ? I had a spinal fusion, I insisted on having only pure titanium as I am suffering from mast cells activated syndrome. The surgeon used an alloy (titanium, aluminum and vanadium’. I didn’t know he switched his plan. I am in tremendous pain, pain is highly dicreasing after the start of an anti histaminiques and mast cells block protocol. Do you have any info to share regarding the alloy aluminum vanadium?
I am also allergic to Vanadium but my allergist and immunologist told me it should be okay to get Titanium hip implant with 4% vanadium. Most people are fine with it. I am still unsure what to do. I am extremely allergic to Nickel so that is out of question for me.
Level 4 allergy to titanium. My body is rejecting it. I have developed bone marrow edema...i cant put into wordshow much pain at the site and sutroundinh area im going through. Im on my 7th year now, tbe surgeon s been bouncing me from one dr to another...losing hope, suggestions would be of much help. Thank you Doctor.🙏🇨🇦
I'm sorry to hear about this. Are you sure it is Titanium or other metals in the Titanium alloy? I am allergic to Vanadium but not Titanium. The hip implant contains 4% Vanadium. They also make stems with HA coating. If you choose to get a revision, ask for Titanium-Niobium stem or Titanium stem with HA coating.

She had the metal removed and got sepsis from an infection from the metal? I'm sorry about your loss
Has anyone gotten or known of anyone getting a brain tumor following hip replacement surgery?
I am 2 years post TKr and it was the biggest mistake of my life. This procedure should be outlawed!
