    For someone who it 'not a professional' this is very impressive work. Grinding a mirror is simple but very precise work. Aluminizing a mirror is a quantum leap upwards in complexity. Congratulations! If you have friends who build their own telescopes, you may find that your standing as 'not a professional' may change when word gets around that you can coat mirrors.
    Thanks for the video.

      I know this is a matter of semantics but quantum means small(subatomic), not big. I don't mean to criticize, just to inform. Marketing departments are confusing the world.

      It looks complex due the equipment but is not that hard, I find figuring mirrors to be harder, you just need money and to live in a developed country so you can get second hand vacuum equipment for relatively affordable prices.

    that mirror is so cool and clear, for a moment i honestly thought that at some angle, i'll see me in it.

    awesome job. one suggestion. instead of tungsten wire, use a strip of tungsten and create a small pocket in the middle. this way you can load the pocket with other materials more easily. as well make it easier to clean.

    Great stuff. That is one expensive hobby you've picked, vacuum equipment always costs ten times what it's worth because research labs have more money than sense. Two tips: 1. Always wear latex gloves, the more sweat you put into every surface, the longer it takes to pump it all out again. 2. You don't need anywhere near that amount of grease, just smear a little bit on the tip of your gloved fingertip and then pull the rubber seal between finger and thumb to smear it on very lightly. Only the part of the seal that is compressed does anything useful, any grease not on that part is not helping you.

    6:55 I have made one my self and one transformer is more then enough, a coil this size is glowing white hot, its all about the voltage. You dont need the thick cables you use, you need thinner which is totally ok since the current is not especially high for these coils and you need to get the voltage up to at least 5V or so by more turns on the secondary. I have 5.4V on mine which works for pretty much anything and I have also made a small electronic control unit so i can control the power from 0 - 2000W and thus dont need a big variac.
    But how the hell cheap was those voltage control transformers, variacs?! Like only $35? WTF!! They cost at minimum at least 10 times more! Dam..

    One transformer is more then enough for that coil, I know since I have done the same but I made an electronically controlled instead so no need for a variac and pretty much doesnt weigh anything either and take much less space. You have way to low voltage, the higher the better but within reason of course. I have wound mine to output 5.8V and that is enough to make a coil like this to glow bright white with only one transformer, 1.8V is way to little for this length of coil.

    How did you figure this all out? Is your work somehow related; machinist, physics, lab, ...? Or did you start with no experience making anything and do this? If so...pretty incredible (incredible anyway). B.t.w. how did you know that a 6mm acrylic dome would be strong enough / safe to use for a high vacuum?

    • @luciano1218

      6mm Acrylic dome is not calculated, just speculation may be useful. If damaged, can be custom made another 8mm Acrylic dome
      Anyway Made in China is very cheap.

    6:12 Yea that will leak like crazy, it should be mounted the other way around. And PLEASE use gloves! You contaminate everything you touch with oil from your fingers which makes it much harder to reach full vacuum, if at all.

    Hi, can i build a aquarium as a vacuum chamber. In my town and around, there is no vacum chamber to buy. please answer me.

    • @dtiydr
      @dtiydr 5 років тому +2

      If you mean the round type so would it be a gamble since they are made of ordinary glass and are not precision made and contain stresses in the glass that one day can make it break and implode under high vacuum then and throw pieces of glass all over with speed that could seriously injure you. So it might work but its highly not recommended.
