you're exactly right! Vinh is an EXCELLENT public speaker and hones right in on exactly what to work on and always gives great examples to actually make a change. truly god tier advice.
The clearest, succinct, and most actionable public speaking advice I have ever heard. I've seen this guy many times, but this might just be the best thing I have seen from him. This is like the creative writing advice that everyone gives--read your work out loud to find the errors and discover how it actually sounds--but 3x more effective.
also if you do this with this video its all on point - listen no video, he sounds great, good vocal image watch no video, he looks great, good visual image captions have no filler, good use of every utterance good to know that he himself uses these teachings
Really good advice. At root he's talking about self-awareness: Being aware of what works and what doesn't work when speaking in public. The more you are self-aware, the more control you have, and the more control you have the more confident you become, which in turn means the more impact your speaking will have on others.
Pretty solid advice. Most of the time we fail to perceive how we look in front of people. What we think and what people actually see are often vastly different. This not only solves that but also makes you practice for more clarity.
As a behind the counter seller in my own shop, it took me years to get my confidence up and also develop my banter suitable for every customer and every occasion. My biggest flaw and still is today, is i am an interrupter. I look for a hole in a conversation and i dive in. I do that because i tend to forget what i am going to say if i do not. Still working on it. Sigh.
maybe this will help, when thinking that you're going to forget, and you're about to interrupt, without having to sound rude, use something like "hey, hold on to that thought, before you continue I wan to point something out, or (I want to add on to what you're saying) it's good in my humble opinion to say stuff like that so people do not think you're not listening, idk if it helps but it takes practise
Normally when you are actually passionate about something this comes naturally. Sounds like sales people try to fake it by mimicking enthusiasm. If you struggle with that, maybe consider talking about something else, that is actually interesting like a good product.
This is so relevant… I’ve actually heard this my first year of college in 2006 in a public speaking class. It was an invaluable lesson that has helped me ace just about every interview I’ve ever done.
Simple but so effective. So hard to do though when your public speaking is ruined by anxiety which makes it hard to enact whatever perfect speech/presentation you have prepared.
@@abdirahmann I mean, this kind of thinking actually works everywhere, since people act and respond exactly how you expect them to (just like NPCs lol), you might also want to blur or leave your vision blurry on purpose, you will understand why later on.
This approach I can see being incredibly effective because it deconstructs the overwhelming process of self-review into manageable elements; audio, visuals, and filler words. Psychologically, it’s powerful as it reduces the emotional discomfort of self-critique by isolating focus areas, fostering objectivity, and reframing self-consciousness as a tool for growth. This practice will not only build confidence but also encourage incremental improvement.

Been a trainer for about 8-9 years, teaching a variety of different subjects and I still absolutely hate the look/sound of myself!! It’s very hard to overcome!! I caught a reflection of myself in a window today whilst training and it was just the worst 😂😂
Everyone saying "I will try this, have you tried this" noone saying "I tried this". Explains why I think it should have more views. Well I tried this, and it makes you sound like that person you worship so much, it exteriorizes your potential.
So i tried it....I was Amazed at how it turned out, I didn't realize how cool and confident i look and sound when I talk...however i still need to work on my voice, clarity with words and stuff like that. And up my confidence more with speaking...I never really spoke growing up, i was punished a lot by teachers and adults if i said or did anything. There was a lot of racism and abuse back then.
Not a bad thing - this is one of his ongoing tips for many years and it's a good one. It's simple yet for so long people still do not do it because they don't like their voice and they don't like watching themselves. OK, then stop complaining.

My interpretation:
1. Vocal image - how you sound
2. Visual image - how you look
3. Verbal image - what you say
That's true
3 is also how you deliver your message verbally.
