This is a work in progress mod I am designing for the Galaxy DX959/949, cobra 148, uniden and ranger radios that use similar PLL's and board designs. The mod is not yet complete, I am currently just getting past the R&D stage and am ready to complete the working prototype. Stay tuned for more progress. This is a collaboration of many video entries in one.
That's a cool and useful mod,what I want to do is replace the encoder with a digital vfo,and I want to be able to tune from 10mhz to 30,you seem pretty smart,have any info on a vfo mod,I think ebay sells just the vfo as a board only for around $50.00

This is so you can automatically scan 40 empty channels instead of having to do it manually.
Should there not already be drivers on the board where the segments of the led are?

what would you want to do this to your radio? In other words why would I want my radio to scan

Perhaps because there is not much traffic, you may want to scan channels. Imagine if someone was having an emergency situation. By scanning, you would be able to receive their call.
