My husband and I lived on a sailboat for over a year. It was our infant son's first home. A great experience. However, like with a home, there were many unexpected and expensive cost for upkeep and repairs. So, our family prefers chartering a sailboat and leaving the headaches to the Captain and his crew.

Also, you could terminate the cable ends with RJ-45 male connecters and use a F/F connector block or a set of F/M connectors. I'm about 9 months behind on your videos so this may already be changed... But I would think you would want the doorbell in a separate call box on the driver side of your entrance rather than the gate could. This would allow your guests to remain in their vehicle while calling to inform you of their arrival, which would be especially appreciate during inclement weather. That said, I'm very impressed with Philipp's resourcefulness when he doesn't have the appropriate supplies!

  • @paulopereira6996

Philip, make sure all the cable entries of the boxes, including the end of the cables, are properly isolated. I learned it the hard way. Small juvenile slugs, 1 mm size, fried the electronics. They travelled around 30 m in the conduit. Hundreds.

I’ve recently discovered your UA-cam channel. Your lovely chateau is a tasteful blend of old and new. The similarities between our families are uncanny. We have two grown daughters, Anna and Ella, and a son named Alex. Anna, our artistic daughter, moved to Paris to attend film school, and, since then has built a lucrative career. She met her partner, a quantum physicist and budding do-it-yourselfer from Bavaria, who, like Phillip, has a great sense of humor. They lived in the 18th arrondissement until they had a baby they named Amelia, (nicknamed Lili), now five-years-old. They bought an apartment near the Butte Chaumont and are remodeling it. Our children enjoy home grown food, flower gardens, and renovation projects using repurposed items when possible. Last of all, Anna’s mother and I look alike! Congratulations on your successes. Keep up the good work.

The door bell stainless steel should be waxed. It will stay newer much longer!

Philip, You will need to extend the driveway edge just enough to hold that conduit wires into the ground. A rain storm will wash out that soil creating a ditch which will be an unpleasant bump in the driveway when exiting. Perhaps more cobbles will work. Nice job on the driveway and gate, so sorry about the boat, that would have been fun.

My guess is it needs the weight of the actual gate to "self adjust" the gate.

Asking for a friend who had buried cable cut by a shovel.. Shouldn't that cable be in conduit??
