I was a Financial Counselor at a hospital in Prescott, AZ. When people would come to make payment arrangements as they checked out, they sometimes had stories of miracles and healing of their loved ones. Before sharing these stories, they always started with just one question. They would ask, "Are you a Believer?" There are many Christian religions in that region, and they didn't need a differentiation - just "Are you a Believer?" I always replied in the affirmative and shared their joy and hope in their story. I live in Utah now, and it is different here. I will always cherish that question.

When you spoke about King Noah and how he lead many of the priests to leave their wives and kids behind then came to this realization what they’d done. It reminded me of how Satan works. How he leads us down paths of destruction and addiction then leaves us high and dry to deal with the consequences. But with Jesus, all you find are open and welcoming arms, love, and freedom.

Such a beautiful lesson!!! I loved the story of the people of Limhi binding the wounds of the Lamanite king. I am going through something very difficult right now and this was the exact lesson that I needed. The lesson to fight righteous battles, but be the first to offer kindness and bind up the wounds of your enemies. Also, the wonderful reminder to give it fully to the Lord!! Thank you!

When David was describing the men who left their families behind it made me think of people I know who have sunk far into depression/addiction/illness/problems whose family life has been left in shambles. At 32:20 he says something like "can you imagine dropping the hand of your loved one to follow this man?" Maybe we're not following a man but a thing, or a high, or a fantasy, and dropping the hand of those who we covenanted to love and support. We follow them further than we ever thought we would go and then look around and wonder how we ever sunk so low. Elder Brad Wilcox says something like "we promise we'll never do it again, and then we do". But gratefully there were a group who looked at King Noah and said we've followed you a long way but this is too far and they stop following. That gives me hope.

This tiny little book is so complex and filled with the spirit of Christ. Great lesson.

Gideon is one of the coolest people in the BoM. He’s more unknown, but he keeps popping up in these chapters doing incredible things; fighting king Noah, leading righteous men in battle, uncovering the priest’s unrighteousness kidnapping, proposing their escape plan, giving his life testifying of Christ!

There have been many times during this lesson that you have said something about God’s character and I’ve nodded along and said ‘Amen’ because I’ve seen that in my own life! I listen to your podcast during my 10 minute drive home from work and I have grown closer to God as I’ve listened because of the things you mention are God things. I’ve seen His hand more because I hear how /you/ see Him every day! Thank you both for sharing these lessons in such a beautiful and easy to understand way and for helping me to see God more just by being you!!

I know! The way she just jaw dropped as David read it and gasped beforehand asking "did you read this one?" just makes me so happy for all the wonderful opportunities we have inside this church to live and work together!

Mosiah 18:30 is a favorite of both my husband and my son...they switched out Mormon for Russia (where my husband served his mission) and California (where my son served his mission) and that makes it more personal for them.

Dave and Grace, I love your enthusiasm! It's so contagious! I smile every single time you say that something is your favorite chapter, or favorite story, or the best ever, because it reminds me that the whole gospel really is the best ever :) Also, Grace, your dress is beautiful as always. Sending lots of love!

I liked the comment that mortality is hard, but God has entered our lives to make it easier. Mortality is hard, following Christ is not.

Yes, please! I want to clap in church! We really need to change this solemn, silent culture after something that is joyful and liberating is said/sung in church! Not clapping feels like suppressed emotions! Obviously, silence feels right during the sacrament, but everything else?! I need a "yehaw!" And jumping up and down clapping 😂🎉

There’s nothing wrong with feeling joy in a meeting. We have the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ! One week we had visitors from another church who came in and clapped after a musical number. That’s what they do in many other churches. Even though it was excellent, it didn’t feel appropriate.
There are other ways to show our joy that are more reverent, heartfelt, and have depth. Outer expressions are showy, but I’m sure it would mean more to hear appreciative comments from those in the audience. Also, even though the sacrament should be a joyful experience, it does not feel appropriate to show joy by clapping in that meeting because it is so sacred to us. 😊

I sing in a stake Christmas choir, which now includes folks from other faiths. Last Christmas, they announced a change that the audience was welcome to clap. It's certainly bound up in my experience and expectations, but it felt weird.

You guys have helped me actually enjoy scripture study! I’m 37 and I have read the scriptures many times in my life, but I have never really them. Thank you for giving me the gift of loving scripture study and understanding them more fully!
And Grace, I must know where you got that dress!!! Don’t make me google my life away and try to find it!

What an answer to prayer, thank you 🙏🏼

I love that you brought up the joy that should be felt when we start to understand the gospel of Jesus Christ. Elder Kearon recently came for a leadership meeting and he brought this up. His enthusiasm, joy, and love for the Savior, made me think more about how blessed we are to know that Jesus is the way to joy. Elder Kearon said that partaking of the sacrament should be the most joyful part of our week. On another note, when reading this time about how the land of Mormon received its name, I assumed it was named after a Lamanite king. We know that there weren’t any kings named Mormon among Zeniff’s people.
