Steffi played some inspired tennis that game and Hingis' response was to crumble rather than rise to the occassion. It was well documented that Hingis and Davenport plotted a "you take out Serena and I strike out Venus so we will clean them out" plan in the US Open. Of course later on both Hingis and Davenport will get on terms with Venus but at the time the underground battle was ugly. (Am not making up stuff... Check the press conferences and interviews during the Open. There is even a book talking about it)
