By taking an impression of a patiences mouth,in the same way they do with invisalign, retainers, whitening trays, etc. After taking an impression dentists could make the bristles of the toothbrush to come in contact of every tooth surface and the gumline
This is exactly what I was thinking when I saw these toothbrushes being advertised on UA-cam. The only problem with that is... dentists will be putting themselves out of business 😅 I’m guessing they won’t be endorsing this anytime soon! After all, how would they be able to justify their high fees afterwards...
@@ak205 It's impossible for dentists to go out of business, since dentists don't only clean teeth. Without dentists: 1. I had already ordered this product before asking my dentist what he thought about. He did some research and recommended I return the product. I can say the silicone bristles don’t touch my teeth and the film you feel with your tongue on the surface of the teeth was still present. No luck with manufacturer getting back in touch with me. Recharger seems to be malfunctioning. U shaped end has broken free from mechanism. I would not recommend.
If you or a loved one has a movement disorder like Parkinson's or Huntington's disease, it's a game changer. My wife almost can't brush her teeth with traditional tooth brushes, and doing it for her is difficult and humiliating for her. While this isn't as good as traditional brushing, for people who have siad difficulties, they're better than the alternative. Combined with regular cleanings at the dentist, her oral hygiene has greatly improved.
Wouldn’t how it fit be a huge deal with these toothbrushes? I remember playing football when younger and having to boil a mouth guard , stick it in my mouth for 30secs or whatever and then put it in water to make it fit well. Wouldn’t they have to go to some process like that?
I have serious concerns for my gums, as they are receding. "If your gums are clean, your teeth are clean," is what I was told when I had braces, and I took that a little too seriously in my teens and 20s. The u-shaped mouthpieces seem like they could be useful for my situation, since they appear to avoid the gums altogether. Sad the technology isn't quite there yet, but I'm also looking forward to watching it develop.
I had bought one before watching this video. You did not mention the blue light. There are different settings of vibrations on my one which is white but looks the same otherwise.

What if you just use it manually? Like moving it back and forth? I’m looking into this for my neurodivergent child. Also what if the bristles were like regular toothbrushes instead of silicone?
The more manual movements you do, the more it can help. But still the results are not really good enough. Those with normal nylon bristles as opposed to silicone certainly appear to perform better. And there is without doubt an advantage of such a product with some users where regular tooth brushing is very difficult, particularly if you can get the manual movements and use a product with nylon bristles.
I bought a happi brush and I could feel it didn't do much for cleaning my teeth kinda wish I did my research it wasn't cheap and I'm pretty disappointed. Only good thing is that it uses blue light to kill bacteria so I brush my teeth as usual and then use it for the timed 30 seconds to kill extra bacteria with the blue light only mode.
Sorry to read you were led into buying one of these. Good you find some value from it. Worth speaking to your card issuer/payment provider to see if you can get a refund.
Maybe you can send Electric's Mouthpiece toothbrush research to the mouthpiece brands so that they would know their mouthpiece toothbrushes don't recall clean teeth.
great video. I’m curious what if you were holding the U brush and literally brushing your teeth with it in a circular motion? Making sure it makes contact? Would that make it more effective?
I have tried this. It depends on the specific model, but the one tested in this study had no meaningful difference in the results. The fit of the mouthpiece is really bad so trying to ensure it makes contact is tricky.
You can. Different manufacturers advise different approaches. Please also note some of the examples shown on video are for illustration purposes and not necessarily 100% accurate to the manufacturers expectations. Our testing on the other hand is conducted as best as possible to be in line with their guidance.
I'm only interested in a product like this because I have a very small mouth. So my question is can I use a product like this in combination with normal brushing to help take some of the gunk off the back of my teeth? It is very hard for me to get behind my teeth.
I would suggest no. If you are performing some normal brushing it is likely to be considerably more effective. Have you looked at some more specialist brushes from the likes of TePe that have long handles and may help you get to the back teeth.
These are different products entirely. Whilst they are not likely to be as effective as a regular toothbrush for a toddler, the main thing is to get your toddler used to toothbrushing.
They need to design it kind of like a car wash, have a bunch of tiny little circular heads like oral b and make it brush your teeth for the full two minutes; there is the problem with the motor but once again that should be updated as well.
Not bad. Each round head on the inside and outside should be angle at the gum line. There should also ad round head for the back side of the last molars angle to the gum line.
This makes sense. Do you think there's any difference between this and the 'custom-made' mouthpieces like Blizzident made to fit your particular mouth? It would seem that this would side-step the problem that may have been identified in this study.. but there's really not much information on this.
Yes, I do believe that those that are custom made are better. However, few such products exist. Those that do are very expensive. Blizzident is probably one of the best examples. In the future I do think we will see more of these, but more study and data is needed to really conclude if they are better. The more generic mouthpiece toothbrushes (not custom) can probably get there too with more research and development..
As a general rule we would still pick a normal toothbrush over these. However, Symplbrush (available in USA) is the best we have tested. Y-Brush (EU) has been making improvements. We are likely to test their product again in the near future as in the last few days some evidence has come from a different clinical trial to suggest their brush is effective.

Did anyone notice the poppy seed between his two front teeth 😬
I did brush my teeth before filming. 🦷
What you actually see is what is often referred to as a black triangle. It is a gap between 2 teeth and the gumline that can be caused by various factors. In my case, it is due to my tooth shape.
I am now undergoing orthodontic treatment to resolve this and other tooth alignment issues.

Uh I have to keep brushing so much wasted time
4 people "dislike" clinical study, lol
What a load of bollix,it’s plainly obvious that certain people don’t want you to veer away from the electric toothbrush, they have nothing to gain by endorsing the product…it’s all about money…
Please explain how. This was an independent study...
