On R&R from Vietnam seeing Dusty Springfield at Chequers was a thrill. The Australian girls were beautiful in their mini skirts. What a great memory. Thanks Dusty!!
Dusty is so beautiful, elegant, natural!...Nothing sophisticated! She shines, despite the fatigue! It's a great delight to see and listen to her! Thank you very much, Darren! 🌸💕💕💕
@@sintamaroe8159 I know it’s difficult…though it’s been 22 years since her passing 😪 The old adage “ you don’t know what you’ve got till it gone “ holds so true. She may be gone…however…she lives on in our hearts forever ♥️❤️🙏
Dusty was in Australia for an engagement at Chequers nightclub,Sydney. She had arrived several days early during Matt Monroes engagement so she could attend Matts show and get a "feel" for the venue.(Matt called her up on stage with him.) These Airport press conferences were an ordeal that many visiting performers to Australia faced after a horrendously long flight and suffering terminal jet lag. Dusty handled this very well.
A brilliant post Darren!! You have to wonder at some those interviewers but, she stood tall as she always did when bombarded with stupid questions,!... Thank you so much for this 👍👍💕
Damn, I wish I look this good after a long flight and just waking up! And yes she was bombarded with stupid questions. Dusty Springfield was such a perfectionist and like she said, she wasn’t sneaking in. Just wanted to get there for preparation. She handled the interview very well.
I'm struck by how "world weary" she seemed at the age of 28. I keep trying to put her stardom into historical context. She was huge. Other than Elvis and the Beatles I can't think of another pop singer that had such a large body of work and enjoyed as much international fame.
"I'm struck by how "world weary" she seemed at the age of 28." She wasn't "world weary," you moron. You try keeping up a hectic performance schedule combined with chronic jet lag.
Great to see this, what inane questions from these reporters but Dusty handled the whole thing extremely well and came across as the better person (s) i.e. perfectly normal and of sound mind.
Those stupid questions would send you asleep. After such a long flight from Japan, Dusty, at 28, dealt with them very well. Wonder what she said about them afterwards? Her engagement at Chequers was a huge success.....she didn't return to Oz until 1981 when she did a private engagement for Datsun at Hilton Hotel in Melbourne. Wonder if those journalists interviewed her there.....or maybe by that time they had been sacked, or someone had punched them in the mouth, so they no longer could ask stupid questions. I do miss Dusty. RIP
By the 1980's, these sort of arrival press conferences were pretty much in the past. By then ,you were more likely to be interviewed on national TV shows like The Don Lane Show and/or The Mike Walsh Show. Indeed,in 1981, Dusty was interviewed on both those shows.
Re-reading the original comment, it was incorrectly stated that Dusty did not return return to Australia following her 1967 visit until 1981. In fact, Dusty came back to Australia in March, 1969 for a two week "residency" at the "Silver Spade Room" at Sydney's Chevron Hotel. The engagement was to open on March 30,1969, however on March 8, Dusty collapsed while recording a television show in the UK, leading to speculation that the Australian show would be cancelled. However, Dusty came to Australia and opened on schedule only three weeks later- a remarkable lady.
The interviewer really deserved the Buddy Rich treatment. Maybe she was too exhausted to put forth that much energy toward those douche bags, she was probably thinking she'd like to pop him with a tart, at the very least. They were so disrespectful... but as always she was classy, poised, quick witted, kind, sweet, and deflected their hideous jabs in the direction she wanted. Such a smart, intelligent woman. ❤
Disturbing tone and questions by the press here.... Dusty handled herself with class and grace..... us fans will always love her!!!
The epitome of grace... she was one in a million!
What kind of journalist would interview a star like that? He was bullying her. But she outclassed him with poise and tolerance.

Dusty always handled interviews so well with her natural grace, poise, and humor.
Especially when they were rude and unfair asses!! She always turned the negative into a positive! 🙏 RIP 💕 🙏 DUSTY SPRINGFIELD 😢 🙏 💔
Yikes! The d-head reporters tried to put her on the defensive! But she handled it well, as usual. Great, thanks Darren.
I love dusty Springfield wish she was here
I cannot thank you enough Darren ....for all your posts.its 2021....and I'm still grieving the loss of this phenomenal artist and person !
I have been crying every night because I've just re-discovered her music

Yes she certainly did. The interviewer was very rude. She was a class act
She looked amazing our lovely dusty
The late Dusty Springfield also had a lovely english accent as well as her singing voice. I await your reply.

An "old soul", for sure.

Pooh pooh on the interviewers. Are you a hippie? Seriously...?
Dusty handled it well. A proud moment for her.
Australia was a bit of a cultural backwater at the time, let's not forget.
Quelle était belle

A REAL NICE ARRIVAL !....////
This is what comes with the job being a famous singer like Dusty the press are the biggest pain in the ass.
These guys couldn't get a clue that she was just tired and needed some r and r
Lol I think most of you are forgetting the year was 1967 and reporters the world over were the same!!
It’s disgusting how he badgers Dusty on”sneaking into the country “. God let her be. She’s tired PERIOD!
Many stars were accused of either "sneaking in" or "sneaking out" of Australia.
This interviewer would get cussed out today. What a tool.
or maybe punched - remember the Bjork inccident at the airport?
Stupid questions.
