Very nicely done, and a lot of personality touches like the lights. Especially considering smaller rooms make every problem that much more difficult to solve for this kind of project. Great home theatre setup, absolutely awesome.
The back-lighting LEDS behind your screen are off the hook !! Creates great ambience for the room. I have strobing LEDS around my home theatre. A nice addition to any custom setup.
Thanks, I'm not sure about covering the walls in fabric but I am going to re-paint the walls in a darker matte grey and do the ceiling the same colour too
As impressive as a high dollar, full construction theater can be, its often these smaller rooms that are my favorites. Seeing people integrating theater components into an extra room is just something I find very interesting. Well done, mate.
My other video 'My Home Theatre - Installation' shows it better but it's basically a rigid metal frame around 4" thick with a high gain canvas stretched over it. The frame is covered with black velvet which soaks up any projection 'wash' and makes it appear more like a large TV than a screen. Fixed frames are ideal for dedicated cinema rooms where you don't have to hide the screen when it's not in use. Thanks
The room is 3.5m x 2.5m. The blackout blind is from Ikea, as is the ceiling light and floor lamp. The LED's around the screen are called 'Dioder' and are from Ikea also. The venetian blind is just your standard cut to fit type. Thanks
Thanks! The screen is a simple budget model made by Sceenlabs. It is a white matt screen with a gain of about 1:2. The projector is in 'Theatre Black' mode - although I have done some further tweaking to the setting. The contrast ratio is fairly decent- 20,000:1 and it's providing around 1600 ANSI lumens. A BlackDiamond screen would be a huge improvement but for what the screen cost, I'm very happy with it :)
My other video shows it better but I fixed some 3/4 inch wooden batons to the wall which gave me the depth I needed for the LEDs. I got them from Ikea, they come in packs of four and cost around £40 per pack. I used four packs on my set up mainly due to the size of my screen. I fit flat screen TV's for my customers and they generally only need the one pack for say a 46" screen. Have a look at my installation video if you need any tips. Thanks
Hi, thanks! They're from Ikea and they're called Dioder. You can choose a colour and stick with it or you can have them cycle through all 7 colours or have a party mode which quickly changes between all the colours. They come in packs of 4 LED strips and I used 4 packs on this install.
@@andresmirandav I don't understand the purpose of led lights. I don't use led lights for my 80" TV and my 120" screen. To me it looks distracting while watching something.
Great job, I'm currently considering setting up something like this in my bedroom with a Mac Mini, but I'm still trying to figure out a way to get the sound output from the Mac Mini to the receiver at the front of the room (where TV can be seen from bed) where the speakers should be (under the screen, projector would be at base of the bed) , I'm thinking either hdmi wireless, bluetooth, or airplay. Any ideas?
Thanks! My other video 'My Home Theatre - Installation' shows the fitting process from start to finish. Basically everything is connected to the amp and then one HDMI cable runs up the wall via some discreet trunking and in and out of the cieling to the projector. The flat front speakers are behind the screen and the cabling runs within the wall and behind the skirting board
Hi there. Thanks! My other video 'My Home Theatre - Installation' shows it much better. I wired all the lights into one plug although the lights themselves have three switches (I'm pretty good with electrics) The socket is under the unit which houses all the AV equipment. I simply dropped the cables through the wall and behind the skirting
Hi, thanks. They're from Ikea but they're not rope lights. They come in sets of 4 and each is around 12" long. If I was going to do it again with a screen your size I would go for a complete rope light with no gaps for a cleaner look. I'm not sure where you'd get one from but the internet is a wonderfull thing
Thanks! They're from a couple of old home theatre systems I had. The rears are from a Pioneer DCS-222 and the fronts are from a Pioneer NSDV990. Have a look at my other video which shows the installation process.
I have a sound bar set up in my livingroom its the sony htnt5 with zr5s as rears I just bought a full pioneer elite set up was gonna replace the sound bar with that but you just changed my mind my oldest has finally moved out and gotten married and I was thinking about changing her room into theater room but thought it was to small you just changed my mind great set up
It's a 90" diagonal 16:9 fixed frame screen by Screenlabs. The overall width is around 86". Take a look at my other video which shows the conversion process from start to finish
Thanks, I'd recommend an Epson EH-TW6100. It's 1080p, 2300 lumens and has a contrast ratio of 40,000:1. We sell them for £1169.99 with bracket and 5m HDMI cable. They are also availiable in a wireless version called EH-TW6100W for £1469.99. Ideal if you're not able to run an HDMI cable from your ceiling. Either one is actually a far higher spec than mine and will also allow you to watch 3D blurays. They come with one pair of active 3D glasses in the box additional glasses are £49.99 each
Great Setup, this is something that I am thinking about building for that I have a really good 5.1 AV receiver Yamaha Natural Sound. HTR-6130 that I have had for 5 years and have had no problems with it.
***** Yamaha RX-V373 5.1-Channel AV Receiver, I pulled it up on amazon it looked like it had alot of features and would be a great receiver, about any yamaha natural sound av receiver should be good. Mine is a natural sound.
Hey Chris, thank you so much for the response about the flooring. I did find it here in the United States. I was wondering about your projection screen. What size is it? I also found the lights too. Thank you so much for all your help.
Thanks! Yeah it does the job :) saying that, some of the home cinemas on UA-cam are totally amazing. I'd like to do one with the dedicated seating but mine is perfect for little old me
Hi there, sorry but I'm not sure where you'd find the material to make your own screen. I purchased my screen ready made in the UK. I reckon if you look on the internet you will be able to find some suitable material. Thanks
Hi, thanks for the web address, been looking the last couple of days at the projectors, I can not seen myself needing the wireless option so im tempted to go with the TW6100. It might then leave me some funds to upgrade the sound, as im still using an old pioneer VSX-D812 with Elac XL cinema speakers. With regards to my project this is all going ina dedicated room in the loft and being connected to PS3, Xbox360 and Sky 3D, so im thinking of replacing the amp with one that has HDMI inputs?
Well, I'm not sure how parties work at your place but people tend to get spread out at mine. Usually ends up with people in my pool room (yes I have a pool room), kitchen, living room and cinema room. I throw some pretty damn good parties if I say so myself
Hi, I didn't build the actual screen just the wooden batons that allow the screen to sit away from the wall. The screen is a Movie Frame from Screenlabs. Thanks
Thanks. I like the lighting but you're right, I don't use them whilst watching a film. It's a pretty good effect just leaving them on red and watching a horror movie though
@offgr1d I agree. Though in my opinion with the lights it isn't bad either, i'd just leave it on one color though because it kind of distracts you from seeing watching. And maybe make them less brighter.
I absolutely love your set up. What are the measurements of your room and where did you get the shades/blinds and lighting? I would appreciate the help.
I work in a specialist home cinema store so I was able to put it all together fairly inexpensively. However, even if all the equipment was bought retail it would cost around £2k
Thanks :) It's not all that hard if you're reasonably good at DIY. Have a look at my other video 'My Home Theatre - Installation' that will show you how to do it
With home theaters, bigger rooms usually mean better experience but that's great. I'm curious as to how big the room is going from wall to wall as opposed to square footage. Thanks in advance if you choose to answer.
Unfortunately I can't. I can choose a colour and stick with it or I can set the LEDs to change colour. Sometimes they match what's on the screen but more often than not they don't
very nice installation but dont you find backlighting a bit distracting while watching film, i get the phillips reference but since its not changing to according to what colours are on screen it kinda takes your focus of screen a bit
They're behind the screen and either side of the sofa. Have a look at my other video - 'My Home Theatre - Installation' as it shows you the process from start to finish. Thanks :)
It's much the same with films over here. 'The Avengers' is called 'Avengers Assemble' here to avoid confusion with a TV show from the 1960's (?) As if anyone would confuse the two! Also, 'Live Free or Die Hard' is called 'Die Hard 4.0'. It works both ways though with 'The Boat That Rocked' changing to 'Pirate Radio' in the States and 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone' becoming 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone'
My screen is 90" but it could be as big as 120" from where the projector is. The size of your screen will depend on the projector you get. Most manufacturers have a calculator of sorts on their website which should help you work out the size of image you can expect
Damn i love these small rooms, can you give me the dimensions please because my better half seams to think converting a small bedroom in to a theater can't be done with a projector.
very nice. I am doing something similar to my 2nd bedroom. The room is about 10 x 12. Except the tv I will be using is only 50". Great Job... It is taking me about 4 weeks so far
You should defintely replace the amp as it will make installation so much easier! I use a Pioneer VSX-920k as it allows me to connect 4 HDMI devices and some analogue ones which are then upscaled and sent to the projector at 1080p. A model worth considering would be a Pioneer VSX-922k or possibly a VSX-1122k. They'll give you DTS-HD and Dolby True HD soundtracks and if you network them the app for your smart phone/tablet is amazing! They start from £349.99

Hi there, Thanks! The speakers are behind the screen (you can see how I did that by looking at my installation video) and the room dimensions are L - 3.5m x W - 2.5m x H - 2.4m :)
I'd wish I was skillfull with my hands to just install my video projector at once! every time I want to use it I have to work a lot of time getting cables, sockets, placing the projector etc. If you ever pass by Argentina please come for a visit :)
It was my dream too... Until I built it! If you have the time, money and space then I strongly suggest that you do it! It didn't take me too long to complete and to be honest it really didn't cost that much either. About the same as a 60" 3D LED TV costs. Thanks!
Yeah, that's why I don't watch films with the lights on. Also, the lights don't have to change colour, I can pick one and stick with it if I like. As I've said in previous replys, I'd rather have them and hardly use them than want them and not have them. Thanks :)
Great setup and excellent video, thanks a lot. What gain/surface does your screen have? Is it a simple mate white screen or some of sort of surface that tackles ambient light (like BlackDiamon from SI, Rector from Draper or Supernova from DNP)? Also, what projector mode do you use here/how many lumens are thrown at the screen? The room is not light-treated, but the results (in terms of black levels/contrast) seems decent, and screen surface must be the key for that - or?
Nice, the only thing you need to do is to cover your walls with dark fabric that is used for cinemas to reduce the light reflections and help maintain the sound
Hey nice job! Where did you buy those LED color changing lights and what is the brand called? Also, can you change them with a touch of a button when you want to, or select any color you want at a particular time?
I thought your setup was great. I’m very interested in your Led Backlighting. How did you get your lights to sync with the movies.. I’ve searched all over the web and haven’t found a way to automatically do it. The only way I’ve seen it explained is via a third party app called IFTT. Please respond
Nice work, but I have to ask, where is the cables? how the Xbox and other devices connected? because am going for a setup like this and the cables giving me a headache!
G'day mate how did you go about setting up the lighting around your screen I think it look fantastic and id love to do the same Once I'm finished I'll post it and see if anyone likes what I've done cheers again P.S. I see you posted this a while ago but I've not long finished building new house
Hi there, they're LEDs from Ikea called 'Dioder'. Take a look at my other videos (My Home Theater - Installation) which shows you how I built a frame for the screen to hang on and for the LEDs to sit. I hope this helps
Hi there, this looks nice, Can I ask what projector you're using? I'm thinking of buying an Optoma HD230x and wanted to know your opinion if I will get the same great resolution and brightness like you have here? Thanks!
I think this is the best mini home theatre setup with a projector that i have seen so far, and it looks absolutely clean and beautiful! Great job man!
I can't wait to one day have a dedicated home theater space! This is impressive!!

how can u enjoy a move with that funky led lights?

Thank you very, really appreciate your help and comments.

Yes, as per all my previous comments I don't watch films with the backlights on. I just think they're a nice touch
Yes I want this in my basement
how much is this
hi nice setup ...what is the size of your room...thanks
You would be more than welcome, bit far for you to travel but I do throw a good party! Thanks!

Hey nice job! Where did you buy those LED color changing lights and what is the brand called? Also, can you change them with a touch of a button when you want to, or select any color you want at a particular time?
It's a 90" screen (just like it says in the video)
chrisshield1982 Where do you find your couch bro?! I love the setup I'm doing something similar to this
Thanks! It's just an old corner sofa I bought from DFS around 7 years ago
ikea led strips? liked the backlight
Great setup!! What kind of speakers are you running? I can't wait to do something like this with our new house
Nice job. Not sure about he backlighting though. A subtle colour maybe
They're on a standard cycle. It's just a coincidence that they match the film now and again
I thought your setup was great. I’m very interested in your Led Backlighting. How did you get your lights to sync with the movies.. I’ve searched all over the web and haven’t found a way to automatically do it. The only way I’ve seen it explained is via a third party app called IFTT. Please respond
what is the size of that room becuase i am planning to convert one of the rooms at my house into a home theatre that look almost excatly like yours!
Nice work, but I have to ask, where is the cables? how the Xbox and other devices connected? because am going for a setup like this and the cables giving me a headache!
G'day mate how did you go about setting up the lighting around your screen I think it look fantastic and id love to do the same
Once I'm finished I'll post it and see if anyone likes what I've done
cheers again
P.S. I see you posted this a while ago but I've not long finished building new house
Hi there, they're LEDs from Ikea called 'Dioder'. Take a look at my other videos (My Home Theater - Installation) which shows you how I built a frame for the screen to hang on and for the LEDs to sit. I hope this helps
nice setup dude..
Q what is the size of the room???
its nice. but why not 120"?
Hi there, this looks nice, Can I ask what projector you're using? I'm thinking of buying an Optoma HD230x and wanted to know your opinion if I will get the same great resolution and brightness like you have here?
Thanks!
