Same. 21 F87n here. BMW event sent me to M Track Days trying to change my mind. It’s the extra weight for me. Comparatively, you really feel all that extra weight on the apex. That, and the longer wheelbase on the G87 just makes it less aggressive on turn-in.

I was looking at the g87 but I ended up all in totally restoring and upgrading a e92 instead. Much better platform and possibilities with mods ofc. I know myself even if I got a m2 I would still nod the hell out of it 😅
So btw for people who don’t now, the original M2 was made to spin its wheels and be fun. The new G87 is basically just a smaller M4 but not as luxurious… but everything is the same. Same drivetrain, same power train. IMO, it’s a way better car from the F87… though not as throwable.

One of the things I personally hate is the brand new drivers gauge cluster and rpm and speed gauge they look horrible personally just keep the basic dails if there going to make them look like that that in its self why I never get a brand new BMW as that’s one thing you will look at the most while owning the car

F87 M2 was gorgeous especially in blue. And more raw. And overall a better successor to the E46 M3 than any gen M3/M4 that followed it. The G87 M2 may be much faster but it doesn’t look nearly as good and sacrifices some purity.
Just went and test drove a G87 yesterday, please go ahead and cancel all orders. Everyone please go ahead. I can’t wait to buy a m2 for $63k at msrp no markup that makes 470whp and is luxurious and good looking
I had a F87 (Comp.) and I sold it yesterday after three years because I ordered a G80. Last summer I was able to drive the G87 and I can tell you, that the car feels so much better. It’s more stable on the road, the steering behavior is better, is has more power and so on… Aside from looks, it's a significantly better car in every way.
I also backed out of a G87 and bought an M2 Comp. No regrets! Cheaper, better looking, more nimble, doesn’t have fake engine sounds piped into the cabin.
@@binarycars I stand corrected! Apparently it is ‘on’ or at least more present in sport mode. Having now listened more closely I can definitely tell. It is not as obvious as the G87 in my opinion.

That would actually be easier than you think. Especially if you use a Motec ECU rather than dealing with the BMW DME codes. I mean, they're both very similar engines. Both inline 6, 3.0L, twin-turbo, the S58 just has lower compression and slightly bigger turbos, but the S55 is just as robust when it comes to it's engineering and quality. Not to mention, the S55 is a higher revving engine than the S58, by about 600rpm. If my S55 engine ever dies, I'll just further reinforce the internals, maybe bore it out a bit, and try to get even a few hundred more RPM out of it, add some bigger turbos, but the S55 is not the kind of engine that's just gonna blow up, anyways. Unless you're in an OG M2 and talking about going from an N55 to an S58. Even that would be doable, especially using custom engine management software thru Motec, etc. Size-wize, the engine itself is obviously the same as N55, but the S55 and S58 are mounted more centrally and sit further behind the axle than the N55 is (because of the twin turbos and cooling), so you'd likely need to have some custom brackets and things installed, plus you'll want some extra cooling for sure. Then of course, you'd need to get an exhaust midpipe that mounts to two turbos instead of one, but still, it wouldn't be all *that* outlandish to eventually put an S58 into a N55 M2. What I think would be really cool, is to take an S54 from an E46, turbocharge it and then put that in an F87. The E46 and F87 are nearly identical in length, but the F87 is WAY wider, so a turbo'd S54 in an M2 would be amazing, it'd feel right at home, and having 8000+RPM in an F87 would feel perfect. Another 3.0 inline 6, so packaging wise, it'd be no problem. Especially if you totally cleared out the engine bay and started from the ground up, reinforced the S54 as much as possible (close the deck like on an S55, strengthen all the rods and bearings, basically upgrade and strengthen as much of the internals as possible). Getting all the programming right for accessories and stuff on Motec might be a little fiddly, but it'll eventually work super well.
can these motec ecus be installed in G series BMW? because right now ppl are having to send their dme modules to finland to get a special software to unlock the ecu. it would be a great financial venture to offer a different solution@@doggodproductions2259
I just sold my 07 Civic to a guy who was looking for a G87 M2. I then had enough money to buy a Cybertruck that came with a Porsche on the included car trailer.
I’ve been hearing the 07 Civic gives the G87 a run for its money. VTEC technology is awesome just needs to slap a Viper system and it’s tons better than G87 Karr Alarm system.
@_ph4nt0mzz_47 no, no it's not. Yes it's bigger but you do not feel the weight of it doing almost anything except breaking. And, with the g87 being much bigger, the weight increase is exactly what you would expect.
I'm glad you made the right call. Having purchased my manual 2021 M2 comp in 2020 I'm happy to see it holding it's value. Not a huge fan of the new one either.

@magincap70 the new m2 is fat and numb by all accounts, the f87 m2 is much better looking and is more engaging. If you're not happy with the engine tuning or power level, it's not difficult to change.
Each to their own, but i found the G87 so easy to live with that i wish i could afford one. Ive had an e46 that was like a dinosaur. Good for you for canceling the G87 knowing it wasn't the one and going with your gut feeling. Most people want what's new just for the clout.

If you want a more raw experience at all times than can still be tamed and at a pretty damn good price with a more classic bmw look to it, get an F chassis M car. If you want a brand new, more tamed but still can be rowdy whenever you want with a futuristic look, get a G. No need to argue about who’s opinion is right or wrong, just get what you like.🤷
2 quite different cars. The G87 is fun but much more liveable as a daily. Still can do decent track work. The brakes don’t fade at all. I brake hard and late on tracks and the braking performance made me respect the car a lot more. Won’t keep up with a 911 but you can play with the caymans and give them a hard time. And drive home in complete comfort. Previous gen I have not driven but just expect it to be a lot more raw but also fun. Depends what you want. Good to have choices. It’s immature to say one is “better” than the other. Depends on what “better” means to you.

Not really when you drive both cars back to back you'll find the g87 is the better car before you talk shit go drive it yourself
@@christohees9150 it’s not talking shit the F87 is a better driving experience & yes i’ve drove both the G8x platform feels fake almost not connected to the car by any means & that’s my opinion. G87 is boring tbh you better off getting a G82 M4 at that point.
It’s not 400kg lighter
@@DonsGreenNature lol boring the g87 m2 is a more complete refined car then the f87 and I'd rather have the m2 over the m4 that grilles still gives me nightmares straight pipe and a tune that thing will rip
You made the right decision. Good for you. I wish you many miles of safe and enjoyable driving 🎉
🙏
perhaps not as fast, but significantly better looking and will hold value better.
I don’t know about that, newer and faster models before termination generally tend to be worth more in the long run. Look at the Supra mk4 compared to the mk3. The last manual M car might hold it’s value more than many people seem to think. But that’s just my take.
@@obi-wankenobi1532dunno. Market hasn't been kind to G series M cars.
After much thought I ultimately decided on the 07 civic. That VTEC is something else. Plus you get some nice cup holders!
What a lovely story, thank you sharing.
Same. 21 F87n here. BMW event sent me to M Track Days trying to change my mind. It’s the extra weight for me. Comparatively, you really feel all that extra weight on the apex. That, and the longer wheelbase on the G87 just makes it less aggressive on turn-in.
chris harris says you don't feel the weight, tihnk you had confirmation bias
@@savannahkorben7353except I’ve driven it and felt it. Cars don’t feel the same to everyone.
@@WillSteward dont think you know what confirmation bias is, I don't doubt that you felt it lol
lol, yeah, but I don't have a fucking time machine and didn't know what it weighed until after I'd done 5 laps at Indy on track. I guess me learning the weight after asking due to the feel of driving with an elephant on my back is "checks notes"... ah yes, confirmation bias.
My mistake.
@@WillSteward😂 well said brother
I just couldn’t imagine having the kind of money to buy either one of these cars and then choose the automatic version.
The new G87 heads up display is sick I just got a 2015 m235i pretty much the poor mama F22 M2 still rips like a proper M with a few bolt ons and tune maybe going pure turbos next
Be glad you can afford any of these cars. I wish I had he money to sell stock 2016 Genesis Coupe 3.8 and buy a G87 M2. I like it more than G82 M4. Less people will drive the M2, and the M2 looks amazing with the Alpha-N spoiler wing and better rims.
I was looking at the g87 but I ended up all in totally restoring and upgrading a e92 instead. Much better platform and possibilities with mods ofc. I know myself even if I got a m2 I would still nod the hell out of it 😅
Modded E92 is an insane experience 👌🏼 enjoy it 😎
Good choice!
So btw for people who don’t now, the original M2 was made to spin its wheels and be fun. The new G87 is basically just a smaller M4 but not as luxurious… but everything is the same. Same drivetrain, same power train. IMO, it’s a way better car from the F87… though not as throwable.
Yes. I’m after fun not racing though, F87 is much more fun
F87 is the ultimate inline 6.
An n55? Or an s55? This makes no sense because the b58 is wayyyy better than the n55 and the s58 shits allllll over the s55.
People have different tastes, awesome you got what makes you happy. I just felt like the f87 was a massive downgrade from the g87. When I picked up my g87 they had a mint f87 on the other floor. It was like looking at a Honda civic parked next to a 5 series...that's how elevated I felt the g87 was when I saw them together.
Enjoy your refinement, we each have our preferences
Couldn't agree more!
S55 is one of the raw and fun motor
Exactly!! G87 looks fuckin horrible outside and in.... the interior feels like a fuckin desk job work cubicle!! F87 ALL DAY!
Agree 100%!👍
One of the things I personally hate is the brand new drivers gauge cluster and rpm and speed gauge they look horrible personally just keep the basic dails if there going to make them look like that that in its self why I never get a brand new BMW as that’s one thing you will look at the most while owning the car
Drove both and I did the same thing. Recently got a F87 M2C with 4000km on it, price isn’t cheap but no regret.
Much more fun car for sure!
what lead u to pick f87c over g87?

Premium cloth/vinyl seating
1 power seat
187hp
No TORQUE
After heavy consideration I retracted my order for the G87 Comp and decided it was with upmost consideration the better daily with the Camry
Well said. No complaint at all ❤
So heavy though!
I also backed out of a G87 and bought an M2 Comp. No regrets! Cheaper, better looking, more nimble, doesn’t have fake engine sounds piped into the cabin.
Congrats!
It actually does have the fake engine sounds
@@DubC the F87 does not
@@benbo21 I had to code it off, it did on my 2021
@@binarycars I stand corrected! Apparently it is ‘on’ or at least more present in sport mode. Having now listened more closely I can definitely tell. It is not as obvious as the G87 in my opinion.
I personally love the honesty. No Numbers or facts. Just that you don’t have strong feelings for it.
Enjoyment of driving rarely is quantifiable by numbers, try both and you’ll see
This is the same reason why i chose buying the GR corolla over the GR supra and 86, it was just way more fun and an actual fun experience, it may not be as fast at the supra but the supra feels like any other fast sports car ive driven
I’d love to try one!
Once my f87’s engine wears out, I will install the g87 and have the best of both worlds ha ha
😂😂😂
S58 engine in the F87 body?
havent seen a s58 swap yet. pretty sure that will be extremely difficult
Idk I like both
I’ve been hearing the 07 Civic gives the G87 a run for its money. VTEC technology is awesome just needs to slap a Viper system and it’s tons better than G87 Karr Alarm system.
With G87 the first thing you notice is the excessive weight, which is not in par with the overall size and the look of the car.
No it isn't.
@@XOG357Xyes. Yes it is. It's a fucking boat compared to the f87
Keep it forever! They just don’t make cars like that anymore
if you want a good steady reliable car the g87 with the s58 is the way to go.
If you are under 25 years old and below 5"8 take the old one 🙂
Maybe It is bc I felt the right size for me 😂
Anyway I feel this car a great size never made me feel it too big. And I also have an Gti to say that!
Btw My ex 340i felt much bigger 😮

Years will pass until people really understand what means F87.

@@binarycars thats the plan!
I'm thinking my next car will be a f87 230i. I hear an upgraded turbo does wonders for the b48.
The entire generation of f cars kind of suck. Unless you're talking like present day f97, f80, f90 every G car literally takes dumps on the whole f gen. One of our worst gens, no question.
This dude high on copium because he doesn't want to spend $100k.
Dude says an undertuned s55 sounds better and has more power than an s58? Insane
Replaced with an F83, which is a massive improvement as a daily useable M car. Got the G87 as a loan while BMW fixed a problem they missed on the F83 and it was brilliant.
Just quiet.

Talking about "raw" while driving a brand new BMW is wild
So basically, you ordered a car which is discontinued since two years?
Bought used like new and shipped it, not ordered from BMW
So you’re implying a discontinued vehicle is not a good car? What rock have you been sleeping under! Ever heard of an F40? R32,33,34 GTR? The F87’s journey to classic status has been escalated on the account of the G87 going in a terrible direction.

Man personally I would got the G87 M2 but I would Modify the crap outta it anyway a exhaust and a Tune plus a wheel and tire setup would be the first mods I'd be cruising around with 600hp with stock everything with the exception of injectors
If I wasn’t in California maybe that would’ve been a sick option
Chris Harris literally made a video stating the exact opposite, so I guess there are still people who like the new one

its a beautiful car but that infotainment system in the older model is just hideous to me. The last model is prettier stock but with a couple of tweaks to the new model it looks super mean and I just love that.
@@bqproductions7448 I hear that, brother! loved my f87 and drove it daily for years. now been driving the g87 daily since april an I couldn’t agree with you more… the car is far better and, like you said, the infotainment system is crazy good. the f87 infotainment is almost embarrassing in comparison. at the touch of the screen you can adjust the steering, breaks, chassis, suspension… you can say “my feet are cold” and your feet are warm
Thats cuz the G87 interior = sitting at the desk inside the workds most boring work cubicle V.S. The F87 = Sitting in the VIP section, inside the champagne room, of a private strip club of the highest class in the world while getting an exclusive lap dance from the badest female in the world.... in comparison!😂
After much time spent thinking about this,i decided to go for a 99 miata
Be careful. The G87 and G Series bros will start commenting. People don't understand just because something is new doesn't always mean it's better. Also cars are subjective to personal preferences. The F87 Competition is one of the most raw, most compact best sports cars maybe ever. A tune and some upgrades and you're flying. The power to weight ratio of the F87 is amazing. Good for you for canceling the G87 knowing it wasn't the one and going with your gut feeling. Most people want what's new just for the clout.
Lol the power to weight ratio of the f87 might be amazing but the g87’s is better, both stock and mod for mod.

In my opinion f87 m2 > f87 m2 comp > g87 m2
That’s crazy, I recently traded in my G87 M2 for Dodge Caravan and I couldn’t be more happier.
I haven driven either one bu I keep seeing f87 sound more raw and sound like real power

OUTSTANDING!
Thats honestly how I still feel about the e chasis. Nothing has ever came close to that steering rack since. They switched to an electric steering rack and its never been the same.
That’s why I have my E36 😁
Turned down a G80 m3 manual, kept my truck and bought a new style wrx, needless to say I’m looking to trade that in for one of these
After reading the comments I canceled my F87 order and got in a 2024 Honda civic.
I love the sound of the 711 782 and g87
I don’t agree on the sound or handling but I totally agree on rawness I feel like I can push the f87 closer to the limit which makes it feel like the better handling car the manual is also much better in the f87 also found it more fun to slide thanks to the manual handbrake and less weight the interior is pretty sub par for the money but it’s a sports car after all haven’t yet driven a g87 on track only on public canyons
your a smart fella, i also own a f87 comp. best car ive owned so far.
If you can drive, get the f87. If the car does most of your work, get a g87.
The real question is if the civic is european or american version guys
You should try the previous gen
I made the hard decision to cancel my G87 M2 Comp and instead went with absolutely fucking nothing
Canceled too, went with '94 Nissan instead
Truth. G87 is definitely a better car (except in the looks department), but the F87 will always be the better BMW.
