"The same basic principle that the United States applies in the Western Hemisphere is the one that the Russians are applying vis-a-vis #Ukraine," John Mearsheimer, political science professor at the University of Chicago said during an exclusive interview with CGTN's Tian Wei. He added that "the U.S. does not believe countries around it have a right to have their own foreign policy."

Yeah, but don't be fooled. Chinese MSM (a.k.a. state run media) has a strict agenda so open questions are only asked and interviews aired if the outcome is known and fits their narrative (also, CGTN only has their outwards narrative, which can differ from what they tell their own people). If you thought the Western MSM was bad, and I tend to agree on that, multiply that by a billion.

Kudos to JM for being honest and objective. If the US and Europe believe that Russia’s fear of its existential threat is not real then they should have no problems with Cuba and any of the other former Soviet states in Europe/ Central Asia being supplied and armed with all sorts of missiles including nuclear by Russia and/or China, for their own respective “ defence”. How come the “fear” is only one sided?

all of those former soviet bloc countries are now NATO member hahah. Russia's fears are nonsense, but as JM says it doesn't matter how unfounded or stupid those fears are because Putin believes them and thats all that matters. Except russia is not an economic power and it is not a military power, it cannot dictate anything to the countries to its west, it doesn't have the weight to do that. On one hand JM says the Vietnamese didn't want americans telling them how to run their country and they lost hundreds of thousands of soldiers to defend that right, but then says that the ukrainians should not defy russias influence and desires to dominate them. @@deankruse2891 Vietnam is not on the border of the U.S.
Ukraine is on the border of Russia. Two very different scenarios.
Talk about intellectual honesty? Russia would need at least, at least 3 million troops to invade Europe. They have an army of less than 300,000. So Russia is no real threat to Europe. and these military people in NATO know this. Hitler had an army of about 14 million and lost in Europe so the idea that a country with an army of 300,000 is some threat to Europe is simply not true. But they can use this scare tactic to get countries to join NATO. And I find it amusing and scary when NATO says "we will defend every inch of NATO territory". NATO is not a country, is it? It's not NATO territory. So NATO is acting as if it is a country and shows how these countries are subjugated to the will of NATO.
And, NATO is a money making war machine for the U.S. military industry.
NATO bombed Libya and Belgrade. Neither one invaded NATO territory. So NATO saying it is an organization of peace is simply untrue. It's propaganda.
And it's reported now that the UK is saying it could send get involved in the Ukraine war under certain circumstances without a NATO vote. But if Russia responds by attacking Britain then NATO could invoke article 5. So you should see the absurdity of NATO.
What NATO precipitates is taking a small regional conflict and make it an international war.
This is one of the many problems with NATO as well as the others I've mentioned.
And the U.S. has the Monroe Doctrine. Russia is simply invoking the same foreign policy.

the real threat to Russia is not military. Ukraine voted to join the EU . In the elections in Belarus 2020, most parties wanted the same. Their President Lukashenko claimed 80% of he vote. The scale of the protests showed it was not true. The dissent was crushed by force and he was congratulated by Putin. Putin is a remote leader with no one to contradict him ( see the session where he announced the recognition of the breakaway provinces ) he is out of touch and may well have imagined most Ukrainians would welcome the Russian forces. It seems that is what they were told. The two border countries involved with the west would mean their values seeping into Russia .

He was not going to attack. But then situation changed, not by him, but by NATO and Ukraine.
      1) Zelenskyy announced Minsk II agreement invalid.
      2) Zelenskyy started to threaten with nuclear weapons.
That changed the situation. At that moment as UN Resolution 2202/2015 was not anymore even spiritually accepted by Ukraine, Russia only choice was to accept the years lasting requests of two new nations reconition.
In that same moment, Ukraine was not anymore in civil war since 2014 where Ukraine military attacked at its own citizens, it became invader to DPR and LPR.
      ua-cam.com/video/ycQP5gy9pmM/v-deo.html
Russia did not start with Ukraine invasion. Ukraine invaded DPR and LPR first and Russia by the conditions of the treaty with DPR and LPR was obligated to assist those nations with military if they so request, and they immediately made the request on the next day when Ukraine increased their military invasion in those. Ukraine had multiple changes to just get the situation stabilize, but they escalated it because USA wanted Zelenskyy to do so.
In that day, the war that Ukraine had going since 2014 got a new turn as it was in war against two nations, and they were assisted by Russia. Why it is a special military operation, because Russia is not in war against Ukraine (you can check it, war has not been declared by either side) but it is performing treaty obligation assist those and is disabling the Ukraine military capability to continue their military operations against those nations.
The Ukraine question about NATO has not changed, they are still threatening Russia with it, but they have been stopped by their own idiotism.

A senior diplomat once said: Who lost China, Russia, Iran and Afghanistan, will soon lose the entire Eurasia. Who lost Eurasia, will ultimately lose the world. A new international order is taking shape, amid geopolitical volatility. Hence we witnessed one global crisis after another, since the 08 credit crisis. Anglo-American hegemony is gone for good. Nobody can have the cake and eat it too. Things will only stabilize by the mid 2030s.
Russia is the largest nation by territorial area, with the most nuclear warheads. She's neither Japan nor Germany. She will not become France or the UK. Putin once clearly stated that the Russian bear cannot be forced to consume only fruits and honey.
I would suggest the United States dismantle NATO, drastically reduce her nuclear arsenal, give up claims to the Arctic, close her oversea military bases throughout Eurasia, compensate for economic losses under all sanctions against Russia, immediately stop provocative FONOP, give up the power to wage wars that undermine Russia's national security interests, and help Moscow to restore the glory of the Soviet Union. Ties with Russia can be repaired, when America meets the stated terms and conditions for peace to reign, and last.
The days of US capitalism are numbered, without market credibility. Nobody can ever have the cake and eat it too. Not even the United States of America. Period 🙂 Burning bridges is always far easier than building them back. 💰 US leaders are in overdrive destroying the very foundation of the nation's success. Make no mistake about it 🔪 Russia decided to teach Ukraine a lesson, thus confronting the security challenge head-on. If Russia were to be blamed, Western nations should confront Putin's forces bravely. 🐻 It is lame to blame China for their own inability to solve security crisis of Europe where China maintains zero military presence. America is a capitalist superpower. Is long-term involvement in Ukraine gonna be profitable? Mao Zedong was a dictator whose own precious son was killed in a US airstrike on the frontlines of the Korean War. 😭 Can you imagine a US president's son joining the war in Ukraine?
The verdict is still out, as to who will be ultimately squeezed hardest, for so-called US national interests. I can only caution against blindly following the lead of the United States, at the expense of global consumer interests. This ill-conceived approach toward China is neither viable nor sustainable, and neutral observers know it fully well. Any remaining credibility of US leadership in the world is evidently evaporating fast, given seismic shift in balance of power with the changing geopolitical landscape. Hence, the security risks will radically increase in the foreseeable future, for her allies who are unable to free themselves from counterproductive US manipulation. Period.

Rage is there calling card pain is there pleasure. Maybe this is why our leadership in the west seems so alien to us? The answer you are looking for is unconditional love and it all stops.

The Russians never had the intention to capture Kyiv. In the Battle of Stalingrad in World War II, the Russians thought the Germans and future military commanders of the world the important lesson that an army must avoid stormimg cities, unless necessary. So, the Russians were not going to ignore the lesson they had taught the world and try to storm Kyiv.
To anyone who says the Russians had tried to take Kyiv and failed, I ask: on what date did the Russians tried to storm Kyiv, and what was the size of the assault force? No one can asnwer this question because the assault never happened. The 40 km Russian force parked outside the gate of Kyiv was to pin down Ukrainian forces there to prevent them from reinforcing Ukrainian units in the east. It was a masterstroke. The west is still fooled by it today.
The Russians have been consistent with regard to other cities, where their strategy was to wait for the Ukrainian troops to run out of water, food and ammunication, and offer the Ukrainians the chance to surrender. The Russians have consistetly applied their own lesson not to storm cities unless necessary.

    • @andreafalconiero9089

Exactly right. The troop placements outside of Kiev were placed there for the purpose of pinning down the large numbers of Ukrainian troops that were/are stationed there to prevent them from reinforcing their forces in the Donbas and Mariupol. Capturing Kiev would have been a costly and destructive nightmare that would serve no useful military or political objective for the Russians. Unlike the Ukrainians and their Washington masters, the Russians know how to effectively and intelligently wage war.

Yeah I was seeing that 40km convoy as a diversion too. First I thought was they are there because of the airport, but the airport was taken shortly after, and convoy haven't advanced. It was clear it was there just to keep pressure on Kiev.

    • @SRParsonage
      @SRParsonage 2 роки тому +1

What master stroke? They tried a market garden style airborne assault to capture an airport and await the armoured advance. Capturing an airport so close to the capital on the first day only makes sense if you expect a rapid victory. Using Belarus as a staging area to bypass the Dnipro river is a good idea, Messing around Kyiv to get shelled on and ambushed whilst tying up you own resources is not.
You need a victory otherwise you end up with an asset that is totally unusable due to it being well within artillery range. The VDV spent weeks getting shelled on loosing a stupid amount of BMD's for no materiel gain. Capturing the Capital, Deposing or diminishing the Governments ability to co-ordinate and severing support and weapons from outside makes sense.
Where is the grand strategic advantage? Russia only now reduces it's axis of advance when its coming up against a fully mobilised Ukraine that is backed a horde of NATO weapons that Russia is utterly incapable of stopping.
The fact that Russia cannot gain air superiority or close the door to foreign weapons flooding into its next door neighbour is shocking to me. Sure they could grind a Donbas victory in an artillery war but at what cost?
