- The EZVIZ HP7 Door phone smashes my Nest hello doorbell in every category, better picture, wider picture, but most importantly it comes with a video screen, can unlock your door, and is faster than any video doorbell I've tried.
This video is sponsored by EZVIZ, all opinions are my own.
This is a review of the HP7 video doorbell, installation is just 2 wires, and my tests have proven the 2k picture quality to be some of the best Smart Home doorbell footage I've seen.

ok thanks paul, you’re videos are always high quality and enjoyable! Keep up the work
Hello Brother Paul, from across the big pond, here in the USA. I really enjoyed your show. As usual, Great, entertaining, and informative video.😊
Hi paul i love your videos
Hey @paulhibbert, have you tested this with home assistant? the issue you face such a automation of lights might be resolvable with HA automations
I’ve had a quick google and found a site with a price, is it going to be £400 or have they not said how much it is yet?
You've got your OWN mud hut? Show off.
Normal people have to rent
.... well, when he says mud hut, it's only a hole in the middle of the road covered in a sheet of tarpaulin, but it's a mud hut to him .....
Reaction speed is by far the most important thing when it comes to a doorbell. Putting this on my purchase list, cheers Paul
Yep, never understood how doorbells have such bad latency given games have virtually zero latency across quite geographically distanced installation. I know wifi does introduce a bit of latency but it milliseconds and doorbells usually take about 1/2 a second to ring and alert.
I noticed when showing notification speed that you had wi-fi connected.
Could you test what it is like just on a mobile connection to replicate the scenario where you are away from home when someone rings the bell.
Perhaps have the missus ring and show you having a conversation to see the lag between your speech and her reply.
Great review though.
Excellent review as always. As far as lacking more integration with lights goes...it's no problem for me because I would rather keep things modular and independent of each other as much as possible. Having light or motion sensors for the lights independent of the doorbell makes a failed doorbell not become a lighting problem as well as a failed integral light control in the doorbell would require another doorbell. Since finding a model with the identical qualifications isn't always possible, modular discrete components are the way to go for me. I feel strongly about this because lighting is so important, and I insist on having a manual control option in every situation. I like automated lighting as much as anyone, but I have to have a manual control option in case of failure for at least safety's sake. I still don't want Wi-Fi if I can opt-out of it and cloud access will never happen in my home if it's required for a device. I'm so glad that you test for power and internet connection cycling. It not only confirms that it is required, but it also reaffirms my position of not wanting those things in my security system. I lose power & internet several times a year and wouldn't be happy about having to re-initialize the various automated systems and devices that often. POE is the only way to go for me.
Thanks again for another entertaining and informative review. You ROCK.
"An Extremely Satisfying Button at the Base"? And she said you'd Never Find It! 😉
Nice Review, as Always.
Happy Saturday Paul. Thanks.
You missed the opportunity to do a router joke based upon the Australian definition. Pure smut!
Morning dude. Does the doorbell integrate with HA at all? Was thinking that the scheduling issues could be solved there as well as notifications.
Oh Paul. I'm so very sorry that the mud dwelling UK folks are having such a hard time with Google home. I live in a real house here in the US and love my Google home. It works every day, it just works.😂
As usual, keep up the good work Paul, love your channel! 😊
You crack me up all the time. I love the humor.
That Bob's your uncle gag made me laugh 👍 You're safe now, no need to sell the house.
There is no doubt it looks like the most promising doorbell camera out. I have probably purchased a half a dozen in the last decade and have even purchase and install them for my two sisters in each of their homes. I don't like nest oh, but I do like they're 24/7 recording over ring as I currently own. Being able to distinguish doorbell and motion is important to me otherwise it would be a big mess. I also don't like that ring doesn't record 24/7. I like being able to go back and look at the recording history because that has come in handy more times than you would think. Outside of that, the reaction type is so important, because oftentimes when people ring the doorbell, they are gone by the time I answer it. I will keep my eye on this as well as your reviews to see their updates in the future, because I am a prospective possible customer for sure, they just need to get over the few things you have mentioned as well. They are so close and they shouldn't have taken any shortcuts but it's inevitable that they will correct them, only problem is when? Thank you for your excellent reviews.
Had to stop half way through to let you know I love the piece of glitter under your right eye! lol Now back to the show. :)
8:35 EzViz confirmed; Paul is not Human 👽
😂🤣
Happy Saturday Paul, I love ezviz products. Another great product. (Forget it, wife just said it’s too big).
The notification phone call is great!!
Another great video Paul, thanks. A question if you don't mind. We live in an apartment and have 2 door bells, one on our apartment door and one on the front door downstairs which is connected to our intercom. What I would like to know is wether you can connect the wires that carry the downstairs doorbell to this unit in the same way you can connect the door release/opening wires? (not bothered about video connection for the downstairs door)
I like the idea of opening my entrance in public lol - suprised you didn't notice that Paul
Happy Hibbertday 😁
Another great video Paul. I’m keen to find out if there’s an Amazon compatible fire alarm but I can’t find one.
Once again I have to wonder how the neighbors of Stately Hibbert Manor react to spotting you skipping about in your back garden at all hours of the day and night, Paul.
Excellent review of the device.
I'm sure the neighbours....and local police are well pi$$Ed off, err I mean, used to it 😂😅🤣
Hilarious, I just threw my Google nest hub in the bin yesterday.
Great video Paul. Paul can we set/play photos while screen is idle (eg: I need to play family or friend photos and it should slides/move . can you please have a look). thanks
Loved the McFly outfit
How strange. Suddenly I seem to taste chicken and my rooter hurts.
Genius amazon gadgets here ❤️🙌
Great review, thanks! I already waited for this, because I have heard that the HP7 will be fantastic. The monitor will be a something like a central HUB to contol other devices also. My only complain is that the integrational capability of EZVIZ is not too extensive.... Im using HA, Homey, OpenHAB at my projects, but these integrations are not working flawlessly. Do you have any experience with this side of the manufacturer?
Those are 2 pretty big bugs, not to mention the lack of detection when creeping up to the camera. Hopefully all that will be fixed by the time it's ready to ship to the public. It would be nice to see it re-tested in a future video. 🙂 Should we mention that it's a Chinese company and we really don't know how much control or access the CCP have to our data stored in the Ezviz/Hikvision cloud?
Nice review and a nice product as it seems. Is it possible to connect it to your own NVR or to a NAS to have the recordings saved there?
Yep, me too....please investigate Paul.
Where is the juvenile "smut". I have not been baited, no flies. The corporate overlords presence is noticeable...😢😂
One has to admire his cosplay of Marty, especially with that hoverboard. Did you source these props from Doc?
I’m guessing this is not compatible with Apple HomeKit? Thinking of getting a Hubitat Hub, if so would it then. And finally any ideas on UK release dates. Thanks, keep up the great work love your content! 🎉
Yep, hubitat integration....is it possible?
No homeassistant ? Most of the scheduler issues could be fixed by that if there was a good integration
Mud hut? We used to dream of living in a mud hut. All we had were a hessian bag on a rubbish tip…
I like this doorbell, though. Not much use when all you’ve got is a bag, but I’d still consider it
Flamin Yorkshiremen
Is there any subscription model on those? One reason I went with my Nest is the free service, which gives me enough.
Great vid as always, I'll send Mr Socky back lol... quick question, will you be getting Switchbots new vac to test....
Chilling in my mud hut drinking swamp water through the gaps in my teeth 😎
Isn't a ring cam higher res and works directly ?
🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:00 🚪 The video showcases a fast doorbell camera with a separate seven-inch display, 2K image resolution, and RFID access control.
02:22 📲 The device has lightning-quick performance and smooth integration with Amazon Echo Show, but not with Google devices due to Google's slower response.
04:15 🔌 Setting up the device is straightforward, involving scanning a QR code and naming the device via the EasyVis app.
06:09 🔕 You can set quiet times in the app for notifications, but there's no differentiation between motion and doorbell alerts.
08:21 📷 The camera has very fast notification speed, taking less than two seconds from pressing the bell to receiving a notification.
Made with HARPA AI
I would love one but don't need it as I have German Shepherd who loses his mind if a mouse breaks wind in my garden
Was yours connected to 2.4 or 5 ghz for testing?
No "On the fly" joke, today is a sad day. 🤣
What was that complaint about slow moving human detection? Clearly there's no humans in that scene. Unless there is a master class ninja, that is!
Did I miss the price?
What about HA? Or RTSP at least.
Is that a spec of glitter under your right eye? Been helping some local stripers with thier YAML files?
Well it for months later amd im the market for a new doorbell, cant find this camera anywhere, only the db2
Will the screen and doorbell still work without any active internet connection, just a local WIFI network?
Does it offer an API at the local network?
Does it allow for video streaming over the local network, to a surveillance camera recording device?
Do they charge a subscription fee? When it will be considered EOL by the manufacturer?
"... Paul from the future."
Haha!
Does it integrate into HA?
I have the solar EZVIZ outdoor security camera that you did a review on Paul, and that does integrate into HA.
interested in knowing that to
can you connect it to an existing doorbell chime?
I had a normal doorbell with a light that just happened to look like a ring camera if you squinted and looked sideways at it, within two weeks somebody smashed it. Also I wouldn't touch any Alexa smart device after Amazon shut down all of some guys many home smart devices due to ignorance on Amazons part, imagine if they had control to his driveway gate and door?
If all the camera manufacturers would switch to webrtc we could have almost real time video playback. Sub 50ms glass to glass.
I'm kind of curious about this thing and there was something I didn't see mentioned in your UA-cam video. Is this one of those units that's battery operated and I have to take it down every so often take it in the house and recharge it? Or does it wire into the electrical system of my house where I basically drill a hole in the side of the house take two power wires out to it and then mount it on the side of my house with a couple screws so somebody doesn't have the bright idea to come along and walk away with it. I'm not being funny a lot of these doorbell camera units are basically stuck on the side of your house with velcro or something like that and people have a habit of stealing them for obvious reasons. Been looking to find one that is physically wired into your house and you can in a nutshell attached to the side of your house and make it much more difficult for somebody to take with them in their pocket. And if you're wondering yes I'm in Nova Scotia Canada. You guys in England look like you haven't made with your fancy mud huts over here we're still living in caves and tent like structures. So good on you over there in England. I'm sorry I couldn't resist. I'm a endangered species of Canadian known as the ass clown. Not many of us left. Seems people don't like us very much which makes reproducing very hard and we're much more disliked than the panda so there's no reproduction programs in place. I had no idea British people lived in mud Huts. I thought you all lived in little blue boxes with a flashing light on the roof that makes swishing noises and randomly disappears and reappears whenever you need to go somewhere. Naj nudge wink wink. Little Easter egg there for the kids. I won't go as far as making any robot dog jokes that would be a little too on the nose..
Can you not change the beeping like you want to only happen at night, in Home Assistant?
Red wire is +, black wire is - 😞 although if you get both ends wrong I suppose it cancels out
The us Amazon link shows a price of £129 when available, if so that is excellent.
Question: does it MATTER???
I assume this doesn't support ONVIF or third party NVR systems?
Can you use it without the internal screen?
Happy you slapped that guy, that chicken needed some action.
Hrm.... Paul, been watching for years, and I appreciate how difficult it can be to keep content going each and every week, however, think you need to widen your scope a wee bit. Regardless of my comments, thank you :)
there’s a a bit of wee in this video
I too have been watching for years and this guy is a star.
@@garethjones5068 you surely mean there's a wee bit of wee in this video?
@@saintuk70 Oui I did indeed mean a wee bit of wee
As others have pointed out there's more wee in this video than any other 🤷♂️
Curious as to what more you want to see. Recently I've featured air con neck collars, curtain motors, artifical reality glasses, modular smart lights, a starlight projector, a boombox, solar blinds, earbuds, smart garden products, ALR projector screens, outdoor security cameras, a smart home presence sensor and now the first ever smart video phone. I think over the last couple months my scope has been as wide as it can get 🤷♂️
Nah in America we don't think the English live in Mud Huts. Us Americans think the English live in the suburbs of Harry Potter or the town homes of Shawn of the Dead, and after every disaster you run to the pub to grab a Pint
Multi user apartments access?
Any idea how much it will cost?
What about home assistant it integration
So what you're saying is that for all the good things about it, it's not quite ready for prime time until the bugs get worked out.
A Strayan _'rooter'_ uploads vids of his wife using an internet _'rowter'_
Wow, still can't buy one, thought it would be available by now.
It is a shame my mud hut does not have a power socket any where near my front door and boxed in pipes behind the wall where the unit would need need to be fitted.
We don't think you don't live in a mud hut. We think you live in a cramped mud hut with no yard.
What about "HomeAssitant"!!
When an American queries my pronunciation of "router", I ask them what famous road one should get their kicks on, according to the song.
🤔 I've never considered installing a video doorbell in my bathroom as per your demo, but I guess it may be helpful if one were to run out of toilet paper and desire to share the experience with your partner no matter where they may be. I'm sure that guests would appreciate this as well. 🤣🚾🚽
😂
I just bought a new door phone. Went with good old Panasonic. Could monitor away from home if I bought a special router but eh. No one visits me anyway.
Ezviz is a subsidiary of Hikvision, although in some places it pretends to be a Californian company.
1 thing I don't have is a smart doorbell. I haven't made the plunge yet.
How much are they plz.
Ironic that the shape of a piece of piss is the shape of a kidney
“You don’t root things”
Oh yeah I do 😅
DID YOU READ THAT!!!!
SMUT! smut I tell you.
The delay on the ring doorbell is really annoying, is my biggest pet peeve. How about using the cloud, is there a subscription you have to pay?
Just give it away to me lol, the sexiest intercom doorbell
I hope EZVIZ bring a more reasonably priced version without the screen,, so we can just use a tablet/phone/smart TV instead.
I could have sworn that was from the song Little Red Corvette not Baywatch
This is going to be great, I can now give the elephant a collar with an RFId and he can leave the room and open the giant elephant flap we have in our compound gates all on his own. Pure genius. None of this walking him around the neighbourhood anymore crap, he's on his own! He can leave the room anytime he pleases.
Doorbells with cameras, because we obviously don't have enough CCTV here. I guess the old fashioned, not knowing who's at the door is for loosers. I guess it might give you a bit of a head start if you're being raided by the police and they're kind enough to ring the door bell before using the metal ram thing... So, I'll have 10 please.
Admit it... you expected something to pop up and out at 08:00, like Paul's head :)
BTW Paul, you have beautiful hands! not rich my..... :) Paul! wait, please don;t go! Please include in a video all these screens synced to "oh, the Zigbee" Pretty please, love you beside all the very good and smart jokes, waiting your next video, man i like to see straight minded people saying what's in their mind and no CORPORATE GREED! God keep you safe! And your beautiful hands, wink
The fact you have to re-enter the password tells me it’s not storing the password locally. This is a plus in my opinion. I’m fine having to re-enter the password, and I much prefer the device not holding the password locally.
Unlock your entrance?
I say old chap.
Ezviz is Hikvision who are experts of CCTV thats why they have great cameras
Hikvision are also the master of spying on you by using your cctv camera to do so
The bell is massive, I don’t have anywhere on my door that I could put it.
So it pretty much does the same thing as Hikvision video entry system then.
We do live in a mud hut... All gadgets take ages to get here AND expensive
And we don't think you live in mud huts in the UK. It rains too much there for that.
"It's got its own screen. I can pretend to be a rich person." I wonder if there's not a little bit of that with us smart-homers. [Cue the "Doh!"] We all want our arch-nemesis to exclaim at some point, "Where does he get all those marvelous toys?!" Actually, I don't wonder too much on that because I think the more likely explanation is that we're all just colossal nerds. Still, I enjoy pretending to be a rich person as much as the next guy.
The EZVIZ HP7 looks amazing, especially the ability to integrate it into an existing powered door-opener. (Loved the new bit about the mud huts, by the way. I wonder what folks think of us less-evolved cousins on the other side of the pond. Probably just that we don't know how to pronounce "router" and deserve to be rubber-chicken slapped.)
Having 5GHz Wi-Fi is excellent. For some devices, I have to temporarily shut off the 5GHz Wi-Fi to get them to install. This should work without that kludge (and it's one less thing cluttering up the 2.4GHz band.)
"Humans don't move that slowly." [Cue Drax being "invisible" clip.]
Un-schedulable beeps: Agreed. It does call attention to the doorbell itself. I hope they fix this.
After watching your review, the HP7 is definitely on my list of things to get. Thanks for a great review.
Bought one, but someone with a mask nicked it in the middle of the night lol
If I’m going to throw away google, would love a vid for what to replace each google thing I have with!
Why is there no “report for pretending to be the channel to scam people?”
the mud hut bit is quite unfair. Mud huts are better insulated.
It just Works 😂
Needs permanent power, which for me is a deal-breaker as I have no sockets within 5m of the door, plus I don't need an extra wire to run around my floor. Hot-swappable batteries would make most sense to me.
I use Eufy’s doorbell with a rechargeable battery.
Too Big, way too big my doorbell sits on the door frame, like most doorbell pushes in the UK
