Hi there, Liron here! In today's tutorial I'll teach you how to get the right contrast in watercolor, to enhance the feeling of light and shadow.
I used to have a tendency of darkening the darks to much. This would hurt the sense of light and shadow, and three-dimensionality.
With time I learned to balance this out, and I think this process is a good example of that.

I love it. I love the way you share. It’s so helpful to be able to watch you work. The manner in which you walk us, talk us through ur process. I learn so much from you. I’m not trying to become one of the greats, though I do want to leave my children and grandchildren works I’m proud of. With ur help I feel like I’m accomplishing that, so I thank you again and again 😊

Loved seeing the color changes in the shadow areas and how immediately lighten using the tissue.

The greater the contrast the greater the potential... Energy comes from a great tension of opposites... learning to see contrast is about controlling the way you look at things... If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at tend to change...
    Again great video Liron

Liron I can't thank you enough for making this video, I'm going to do it like a study doing it step by step your way first so I can see how it comes together than use this concept towards my portrait studies. I love this background it's not your "normal" style, when I saw this I was like whoa Liron amazing on Instagram and have been waiting for this one my friend xo cheers from Canada xoxo

Thank you again, I need to learn to simplify, so often getting caught up with the details, and getting fussy. In appreciation of your teaching.

We all have our weaknesses and problems in painting. Personally, after these last three years of painting, and making good progress for me it's simply seeing reality either in a good photo or real life ( usually a photo) and being frozen by all the visual information. I've watched endless videos of yours Liron, and others and I fall into the usual trap of not knowing exactly WHAT to include and leave out, emphasize or play down. I don't seem to have the 'vision' or as I call it the 'inner eye' . I end up with a decent painting but too detailed, just not loose enough.
Any way you can show us , e.g., in an urban painting how to simplify?

    Liron, aghhhhh! The palette.......! Lol
You talk about working large vs. small. To me, that is large! I’ve never worked on a piece larger than 9x11! I think I’m stuck on my paper’s “preciousness,” and fear of ruining it and wasting good paper. I am sick of using small brushes though and fighting with tiny details. It really would be so much easier working bigger and looser. An ongoing battle......

You don’t have to work larger, simply use larger brushes! That’s the MOST FUN 😁 small paper big brush
