I remember walking up that hill from kettlewell years ago. From what I remember. It was so steep. The pub at starbottom was lovely though. Thank you for sharing
Great video mate. I ride round there a fair bit & have always thought about going up Buckden Pike, I wont be now as it looks bloody awful. The descent from 9.05 in your video is the best part which I usually join from just after Kidstones, coming up over Stake Fell from Stalling Busk. Superb riding round there.
Yes I like that area. And when I ride in that area again (stake fell) I may include that last part of the descent into buckden instead of going down the road to hubberholme. I think in the summer when the ground is bone dry. It may be worth a go at buckden pike
@@TrailFinder This route takes in some great riding with the way I mentioned above. This particular day took a fair amount of time due to the usual mechanicals www.strava.com/activities/3993369387
@@TrailFinder Its a cracking ride, its a long drag along the lane through Yockenthwaite etc but the descent back down to Horton is fantastic. Ive done it in winter & its always a dark finish but it makes for a great summer ride.
Shame about Buckden Pike being a bog mate, but you've got to go to know I guess. I never judge what a place/trail will be like by watching UA-cam (or whether there are indeed any videos of a place), I tend to look on Strava to see how many people have ridden it, and then search on SingletrackWorld forum to see what the 'gurus' on there say about it. Reckon I have managed to avoid a few stinkers by doing that. Great video as always though, I reckon that the ones where the ride is a struggle are just as interesting as the ones where everything goes well as it reflects real experiences better.
It be great in the summer I think. Usually look at heat maps when planning stuff. To be honest I always enjoy my time on the bike good or bad. Even though I may moan at the time 😂 it was very rude walkers that spoilt the day really. No need. We are all out enjoying the country side. Thanks mate 👍
Buckden decent is a lot better in the summer mate .. that looked hellish with the zombies sorry I mean walkers never seen that carpark that full .. good effort talking while climbing up cam lane 😳👍
I will try it again in the summer. Maybe as an out and back from the carpark. Can imagine it to be flat out and fun when dry. Most people on that walk must have left or forgotten there manners that day. Some very very rude people. No need.
@@TrailFinder it's been crazy this year .. hoards of people turning up they are worse than sheep nowadays for spoiling a good decent..and a lot more ignorant than the sheep ..🤘 It's pretty much a bogfest everywhere round here at the moment
Never realised you rode clipless. I always swap to flats for the rough stuff but would love to have the confidence to keep them on permenantly. Great video too but i don't think i'll be adding it to my list ;)
Its a shame you did it in the wet... its a great fun descent after a dry spell.. did it quite a few evenings during 1st lockdown, was running really well this yr.. Keep up the good work!!
It's annoying when there's nothing on UA-cam showing what a ride is going to be like. There's this bloke called Trail Finder who does this kind of thing. :) PS Well done on cleaning the Cam climb out of Kettlewell. The descent through Fosse Wood into Starbotton is worth a look if you haven't already done it.
Love your videos pal! The footage and information you give out are top notch. I’m looking at getting back into mountain biking properly after years of mainly road riding. Got an old merlin Malt for now, doing a fair few miles on quiet roads/tracks out of Manchester and round the Peak District. Would a decent hard tail (something like a Nukeproof Scout) cope with the rides you mainly go on? (The Dales, Lakes) or should I say would I cope on a hard tail on the terrain that you ride? Or would a FS trail bike be more suitable to cope with the downhills? As I’d love to start doing routes that are off-road and trails etc With a lot of climbing. Sorry for the long winded question. Thanks. Chris.
That’s ok Chris. You can ask me anything you like. I’d defo go for a full suss bike. I couldn’t imagine riding a hard tail on some of the stuff I ride. With a full suss you get the best of both worlds. As you can lock the rear suspension out and make it like a hard tail for climbs. And unlock for the descents. Do it soon as. You don’t know what your missing
Well done Andy great vid as usual, I was out two weeks ago, over the tops near Marsden and it was the same all bogs, I tried to cycle though it and went straight over the handle bars haha
Hi sorry for the late reply. I plan the ride on OSMAPS 1st to make sure all the trails are bridelways. I then plan the gpx route out for the Garmin on Stravas route planner

I lived in Starbotton 2005-2009 - wonderful country but brutal MTB wise! Always was busy with walkers but sadly, like so many places, it looks as if its fallen foul of over-popularity. Buckden Pike always was boggy but it looks dire now! Conservation work desperately needed to cope with the volume of folk going up the fell - judging by the number of cars in the Buckden car park!! It’s a brutal area for riding. But I enjoy it. Yes the pike is in dire need of the path finishing. The top half is great. It it was like that all the way down it be amazing. Car park was full. A lot of people do that walk. So amazed the path up has not been done properly
@@TrailFinder Great vid all the same, nice to see some old familiar places and shows it as it is! Not some rose tinted version - just the reality. Great stuff!

Best mtb UA-camr out there. No nonsense, the good and bad, while having fun of both types.
Thanks Robert. That means a lot. I like to show all aspects of my day good and bad. It all adds to the story of the ride. Thanks for watching

20% in places. So very steep. I managed to clear it though
Brilliant what you do. I can’t believe that your bike can stand up to it all.
Thanks. It’s amazing what these modern bikes can take
