      @@VinceVenturella speaking of Daler Rowney inks and paynes grey.
      If you could only have a limited selection of inks to start off with, what would your suggestion be for say 6 inks to build from?
      I assume white and paynes grey would certainly make their way into the mix.
      Also how is the variance between those inks and say GW's old ink line, as I still have a few sitting around from those days (black, flesh, chestnut, blue, thst sort of thing)

    So great to see you doing some 'nids Vince - after assembling some 2003 'nid infantry (with the heads that come in 2 halves....seam line through the face is absolutely brutal and sucks a lot of fun out of the whole activity) I'd lost a lot of willpower to paint them up - now I'm all psyched to try this approach out and keen to paint again. Thanks for all your excellent videos. S.

    Hey really, REALLY appreciate all your videos! One quick question! I tried following your technique for the purple carapace but I’m not getting as nice of a result. Roughly what are your ratios for thinning the purple lake ink or these Daler Rowney inks in general?

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  2 роки тому

      It varies, but quite a bit of water and a few drops of flow improver. One thing, make sure you are wicking off the excess into a paper towel and then moving your brush in the same direction as you want the "texture" to move.

    That looks awesome and fast. Just what I need for my Leviathan Box of bugs! I really appreciate your speed painting videos -- highly approachable and the use of washes/inks/contrast paints makes them very noob friendly. I find a lot of techniques can require careful precision and my bad eyes and unsteady hands mess them up.

    Ive never had the balls to paint any of my Space Hulk. Watching this, the genestealers seem very achievable. I brought 10 x termigants for £9 on ebay this week and some cheap makeup brushes for xenos practice. I don't own any contrast paints but they seem the way to go here for sure! I love that Broodloard model!

    This is a perfect example of how experience doesn't just show as precise brushstrokes, but also as planing and decision making. Anyone can move their brush like you do on this video, but the steps and their order are very well thought and sometimes may seem conterintuitive. Amazing job as always, not only on the mini, but also on how you explain your process.

    I've been debating how to paint my genestealers for space hulk. My space crusade ones are just your regular blue and purple looking guys. They look great, but I wanted something different and this is definitely the way I'm going. I plan on doing the Terminators to display standard, but I need to be realistic about so many genestealers, and this definitely fits the bill! Absolutely awesome job 😊

    Showing up to this late with the news of Tyrranids dropping in 10th. Interested to see if maybe you could show any other color schemes? It seems like the bone / grey / white underskin is by far the easiest to speed paint but would be interested in seeing how you could possibly speed paint some darker skin tones. I realize changing the chitin color is just swapping out the purple for another, however you'd likely want to feather in less pinks etc on the muscles for say... a green chitin or something like this? Either way great stuff and thank you!

    Before I even watch this episode I just want to say I loved seeing your highlight on the Warhammer community page.
    Even against other such impressive artists your Sigvald made a statement.
    The mirror shield with showing its shape through the altered reflection still stands out against the others such as Sam's which displays amazing freehand work but fails to capture the nature of the shields curved surface.
    Keep up the great work as always, your skill is an inspiration (if not intimidating also) especially the ease in which you appear to apply your techniques.

    Loving this technique. But I'm struggling a little bit to get a smooth result with the ink. Two questions. You say "thinned way down with flow improver".
    Any thoughts on the rough ink/improver ratio (drops?)
    I've got airbrush flow improver...and that's what I'm using. Any reason that would be an issue?

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  Рік тому +1

      Probably 3 to 1 at least, butit will vary based on the intensity of what you are aiming for. You want to wick off the excess and try to apply a smooth even coat, moving the brush around and sopping up any excess. This is tough of course, there will always be some roughness to this sort of technique.

    How do you overcome painting a light colour like the white grey over the black downward facing parts of the model with a zenithal base coat. I always just end up with the bottom facings of the model being pure black still as the light colour doesn't cover well and just doesn't look realistic as a shadow as it should be a darker shade of your main base colour in this case being the white grey rather than pure black

For example, I have played around with a color scheme and lore Backstory for my beastmen for 3 months, and can't settle on one thing, because I ever lose interest in it, or I have a new idea. Have you had a similar issue? If so, any tips how to overcome it?

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  3 роки тому

      It's a great idea for a video. My best advice is that eventually, you have to just settle on a scheme and accept that it won't be perfect. The best advice I can offer is to accept that this project, like any other will not be the best project you'll ever do, but it also won't be your last. Your next project will be another chance. You will always learn more and grow more from deciding and doing rather than thinking and planning. :)

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  3 роки тому

      Sure, it is possible to go too far. You can have things that are supposed to be cloth with the level of contrast that would make them read as reflective metal. THere is a line, it just happens to be the case that most of the time people don't go near far enough.

    Awesome video, I wish I had this about a year ago before I "speed painted" my bugs, but it has definitely inspired me to go back to them for some easy and quick upgrades to the paint job, thanks!

    Thanks for posting this video, Sir! Love the 'Nids! Incorporating inks into painting technique definitely garners great results! I'm thinking I need to enhance my existing Tyranids...

    What's your advice for beginners concerning speed painting ? Is it really a good way to progress ? Thx Vince , as usual great stuff !

      I think it's good to mix it in. You don't want to do only that, but developnig the speed muscle is a good part of building your overall skill set.

    I was avoiding those Citadel contrast paints, because I did't want to fall into the lazinaess of painting everything with them, but that red you used is such a beautiful tone I'll have to buy it now.

      Yeah, to me, they are just one more useful tool. Over-relying on anything is always a deteriment, but to me never turn down a useful tool. :)
