    After reading many reviews and watching a lot of videos, I chose this option for my first backup power station. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHypYDKHAN93Lp2RQpfvU_ksc70wJ00pt I was between this and a larger option that could power a wider range of items, but the price/size/capacity blend seemed right for this unit. Hasn't gotten a ton of use yet, but the build quality is solid and it charges fine via the Rockpals solar panel I purchased to pair with it. One thing to note is that the screen is optimized for a top down viewing angle, which makes sense, but this means it washes out at other angles - especially low angles. Not a huge deal, but perhaps a better option for the display could be used to provide wider viewing angles.

    Great video, I like the experiment. I run a shed with an air conditioner, ventilation and lighting with 200ah chins and 700w solar pretty much daily unless the weather is just terrible. These SPS, UPS ESS systems are so freaking cool.

    Can’t wait to see how the test goes. I just got a couple 100 amp Queens and their site recommended 600 watts solar for a 200 amp battery. I’m in Michigan so I went with that to start now I’m gonna rig it up with 6 100 watt panels and see what I get. Thanks for the inspiration to try it out.

    I think I will try putting my fridge and freezer on a timer when on backup power. I won't be going in it often and therefore it will remain cool and only needs to be run for so many hours a day. This is my thought until I prove it will extend my battery life and keep my items cold and frozen. I have had items stay froze for 3 plus days in my deep freezer with no power so I feel certain my idea should work.

      Exactly. Checking in from Maryland….we recently had a nasty storm here, trees & power lines down all over. We had zero electricity for 4 full days & the frozen goods in both our refrigerators stayed fine. We didn’t throw anything away. Used our 160 Ah solar build to run house fans, internet & air pump for aquariums. I always thought that you could really extend battery life if freezers/fridge were only run for 6-8 hours max per day. No reason to run 24/7.

    You only need one 160 watt panel to power an 800 litre fridge in South Australia, so long as you use an MPPT solar charge controller and a certified 1500 watt pure sine wave inverter and a 100 amp hour lithium ion battery. If you buy an LG fridge get one with a linear compressor they don't use a crank reducing the load on your battery, I thoroughly recommend the use them outside of that I also highly recommend a Secop compressor. Australia has the highest solar irradiation in the world so there is no problem getting enough power from sunlight. My 100 amp hour battery has never gone below 65% charge, and that was in overcast skies. BTW a 24 volt system is better than a 12 volt. I've got 2 panels one as a backup but I've never had to use it. If you use multiple panel arrays make sure you install breakers. If you buy a fridge in the US with a 12/24 volt setup go for it as you eliminate the need for an inverter, your inverter is a power greedy device that will use between 10-20% of all the power you generate with solar panels

    Hi i saw in another video that the refrigerator defrost comes on when you unplug and then replug it in, but if you leave it unplugged for longer than the internal computer requires then the defrost will not come on. If this is correct it might save you some power initially to avoid the defrost draw. Thank you for the videos.

    Love the video, very informative! I looked up this LG refrigerator and it seems great, uses only slightly more power than those tiny hotel size mini fridges. I did notice in the LG manual that it specifically says the refrigerator cannot be used on a GFCI protected circuit. Do you know if any of your inverters have GFCI protection? The inverters I'm looking at almost all do, so we may have to look at a different refrigerator. I see Samsung makes an inverter compressor model that uses even less power than this LG (albeit it's a smaller capacity by about 25%). That one makes no mention of GFCI, though is a 'Garage Ready', so that sort of makes sense, because GFCI is mandated for all 120V garage outlets in the USA...

      I use a 7.5 cubic ft Mini fridge in my Skoolie. I run it 100% on solar but it tends to get so hot on the outside that I can't hardly touch it. I was wondering if it just doesn't like being ran on an inverter and was looking into different models. I'm considering buying a chest style made for Solar. They sip the juice but they're pretty pricey and I would prefer a stand up fridge as opposed to a chest style

    The MPPT seems a little small for the amount of panels. In direct sun the 3 panels should be able to put more than 20 amps in your battery and it's rated for 15. I run a Victron 75/15 on my parents camper with 2 100 watt panels to keep the batteries up, and they will push nearly 15 amps into lead acid. You have a lot more clouds and rain than I do in Wyoming though. I'd love to see what your max output is for the first good sun of the day. I haven't pushed the Victron to see if it will push more than the 15 it's rated for.
    My camper is running on 400 watts of panels with a Victron 100/50 and a Chins 300ah LiFePo and my wife just spent 3 weeks at the lake with it and barely even drew the battery down at all with an Iceco VL65 for refrigeration and a hefty cell phone booster running most of the daylight hours. I'm enjoying your content and seriously considering picking up a fridge like yours and remodeling the propane completely out of the camper. I picked up another 400 watts of panels before the new battery got here thinking I would need the extra output, but the Chins takes current so easily that I'm getting over 33 amps charge in direct sunlight( the Lead acid topped out at 26 or 27 off of the same array).

    • @ProjectsinParadise808
      @ProjectsinParadise808  2 роки тому +1

      I take your point, and was watching it closely today. It bumped 15 amps briefly and adjusted down, however it was basically full at the start. I may drop a panel tomorrow, or possibly add another 2 panel string if needed...but I kinda want to see how it may handle a few amps over. I'm going to watch closely, and update. Sounds like you have a great system too! Appreciate you being part of the conversation here...aloha 🤙

      Yes, the first number on the charge controller is incoming voltage limit, the second is outgoing amperage limit. I am still curious if the Victron has a hard cutoff at the 15 amp limit, of if it will push a bit more.
