I just want you to know that even a year later you were helping people out. I was about to buy a new driver side CV axle for this 2013 XB I just bought. I’m trying to flip it. I haven’t taken the dash off yet but I just ordered the part because the sound is exactly the same as yours and I could hear it coming from under the dash. I’ll update my comment when I replace it. Anyways, I bought this 13’ XB with 34k miles for $4700 single owner. It’s got a rusty roof, going to try to patch that up with some bed liner and post for $10k. Should be an easy flip. People like these cars, I’m not a fan. Thanks for the help though by posting this video!
thanks for this video, I followed this video and got the part that needed and finally fix this annoying noise that been bugging me for years, everywhere I go they told me to replace the steering column, there are no other way to fix it, you sir save me thousand of dollars, you are my HERO!!!!
Thanks for the video. I'm starting to experience this issue while driving on the highway or just turning slowly on roads. Consistent rattling noise from the steering column. I had parked and left the car on - stuck my head under the dash - and turned the steering wheel to the right and then to the left. I was thinking it was maybe the u-joint with a metal on metal issue, but it's still lubricated. Glad to know from your video that it is an inexpensive part. My 2008 xb (5spd) has 208k miles... bought used with 23k miles. She's a good oil burner. Quart / 400-500 miles.
I thought it was the intermediate steering shaft u joints at first to. But doing some research on other toyota models that use the same steering system, I found out the damper for the electric motor was the issue. No one has posted any videos or anything on fourms, so I made a video about it. Yep mine is burning oil pretty bad too... stupid piston ring designs.
I agree less things to remove. I've done it on 15 Camry 14 ES350 and 15 XB and the easiest was the XB. Just 1 panel and 1 cross bar bracket and then the column comes down
Can't seem to find a video to drop the column. I would rather do that than take apart the dash🤔 ... it's pretty easy huh? Maybe I should go look at it and see if I can figure it out@@alex102390
@srdanielsan5847 Just made sure the battery was disconnected first, so the air bag wasn't powered. Then i disconnected it, it was a difficult conector I can't fully remember how it comes apart but there are videos out there to help you with that
Here is an eBay listing for the trim around speedometer, so you can see exactly what pops out. It comes out easily you just have to grab ahold of it and pull or use an interior trim tool www.ebay.com/itm/115770311650?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=115770311650&targetid=1645685074048&device=m&mktype=pla&googleloc=9031024&poi=&campaignid=20133407470&mkgroupid=147476396765&rlsatarget=pla-1645685074048&abcId=9312979&merchantid=425236561&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwwYSwBhDcARIsAOyL0fjslDduoJcGN0ifCPdLfcY3o_dntYxX5x93cN7jC6sRA3nLsmaJ_vkaAlBcEALw_wcB

Toyota dealer will sell you the damper and spacer but they say you should replace the entire steering column and spend a couple thousand.

Great video. I'll take apart mine, this gave me confidence to not break the pilar twisting things.
That looks fun I own a 2010 xb I have no issue yet but I'll be ready thanks for the vid👍
You sir, is a fucking hero! Took me less than an hr to do this on my 2012 xb.
I’ve seen this done on a Camry by removing the entire steering wheel assembly. This looks like it might be a tad easier.

How did you deal with the passenger airbag ?
@srdanielsan5847 Just made sure the battery was disconnected first, so the air bag wasn't powered. Then i disconnected it, it was a difficult conector I can't fully remember how it comes apart but there are videos out there to help you with that
How did you remove the very top trim? I’m stuck on that part. Pulled all the screws I could see and not sure what else to do
Do you mean where the guage and speedometer are? There is a piece of trim that pops out which will show all the other screws

Ok so how did you replace that wheel or bushing that was falling apart?
@BiggECheez you have to remove the dash board, then remove the two bolts for the electric power steering motor... and the damper just comes out.
Thank q million ❤
All that work for a tiny bushing…love this car but whatta pain’
And thank u for this video 💯
