    An underrated part of Dirk's game in his prime was his speed and how agile he was. Yes young people who never got to see prime Dirk, he was fast. Very fast.
    You can see it in this video, he was very good at driving past opponents and finishing at the rim. Defenders tried to crowd him when he had the ball to neutralize his jump shot, but he was so quick that he could drive right by them.

    for decades it was enough to be 7 ft tall for a spot in a NBA team and earn a good amount of money based on that fact, untill the Mavs happend to draft a 7ft with skills, who can handle the ball, penetrate the zone for an easy layup and most of all, he can shoot from outside ... outside ... 10 .. 15 even 20 ft away .. that outside. since that day it was not enough to be 7ft tall, thats how Dirk change the game and the league, and for that reason he is the best PF of all times in my book, Timmy D was great, no question, he earned more rings but he did not change the way this game is played. Tim Duncan is the pinacle of a classic PF, but Dirk gave us a new definition a new perspective and a new vision for all PF who wants to be great at this position in the NBA. That is his legacy ... and the 11 finals

      Dirk was basically Kevin Durant, not as explosive an athlete, but a bit taller. He could score in every way in the half court in his prime which was like from 2001-2013.
      He had a very long prime and almost never got injured. He had a couple of poor performances in the playoffs like the 2006 finals and the 2007 first round series against the Warriors which made many call him just a soft Euro jump-shooter.
      But Dirk was actually a very good playoff performer and super clutch. In his era, it was him, Pierce, Wade and Nuggets Melo that were the most clutch players in the NBA.
      People just remember old slow Dirk, the one that moved like he shit himself and had cement in his shoes. He was a much better athlete than given credit for, very nimble, agile and fluid.

    It's amazing to see how Dirk evolved his game over the years. Here you see how great he was attacking off the dribble from the 3 point line, or facing up from 15-20 feet. 2011 he really developed that low post game.
    Great Video

      @@rapsack7058 I remember watching a preseason game the Thunder vs the Mavs and watch KD hit a 1 foot fade away and when he starts to turn back down he finds Dirk and stares at him. After the game he said he was paying homage. Kobe also did the exact we thing.

    • @csy9366
      @csy9366 3 роки тому +4

      Wrong comparison. Dirk had handles, he had played small forward in his first season. Dirk couldn't use them much after he put on weight in 2004. KD was a lot more athletic than Dirk and can jump higher.
      KD plays like Dirk only in term of with those mid-range pull-ups and trail 3s. They are both match-up nightmare for their skill relative to their size. That's why Dirk was one of KD's draft comparison. But KD isn't going to play like prime Dirk because he doesn't have those post moves, like spinning left and right, roll in and those lefty lay-ups.
      KD is not a post player. He is a small-ball power forward, not an actual power forward (e.g. Luis Scola, LaMarcus Aldridge). I mean KD went out of his way to lie about his height just to not play the 4 and avoid learning all these post move.

      @rapsack7058 3 роки тому +1

      @@csy9366
      @Jamal Burch
      Both KD and DIrk found there own way to play post. Dirk wasnt playing post like the "normal classic Pf" who pushed others out of the way. Dirk did it with and only with smart footwork.
      But dont compare later Dirk with KD. Look more for Dirk at 2006. And theres Dirk more compareable to KD.
      Dont underestimate dirks athletic abilitys. Its just he didnt rely on it like most others. He used skill and body control over raw athletics. I think Holger teached Dirk that way to have a more healthy play style. And it worked ;)
      Back to the point, KD learned from Dirk and he found its own way to play.
      Its like Judo..There are the basics and every body learns them and all look alike. But later you change the style for competions. You change the style to use best what your own body gives you...
      In that way KD looked at Dirk and used Dirks skills and moves as basics for him self. And then he learned to do it on his own way with his own style....
      I hope that makes sense for you...
