Here is the "off grid cabin survival video" checklist.
1) Walk in the snow in the same spot several times to ahow yourself walking in to the cabin.
2) Cut/gather firewood.
3) Start a fire.
4) Cook food.
5) Eat food.
6) Shovel snow.
7) Show dramatic shots pf the wilderness.
8) Stoke the fire.
9) Sleep.

We made Scottish shortbread. 1 part yellow sugar, 2 parts butter(salted or unsalted), 4 parts AP flour(I much prefer Rogers). Mix/beat butter and sugar until nice and blended. Add in flour, mix with beater but hands work fine. Bake at 325 until lightly browned at edges(brings out a butterscotch type of flavour). We did not add flavouring or stuff like corn starch and definitely did not whip until fluffy. I would sometimes add a wee drop of Scotch for fun. The dough can be shaped or cut out individually or made into blocks of patterned shortbread in a mold
My Dad loved the stuff so I always had to make a sacrificial batch and hide the next. He could sneak half a batch (big hands) and vanish with his loot.

It has happened! I finally understood how an axe is made, an axe handle. In my early childhood, when I looked at the ax handle, I could not understand what these sections were in the wood at the end of the wooden handle... And I imagined God knows what! Thank you for bringing me back to my childhood!

I think I had taken away some snow from the roof, that is heavy and when warmer, it will be really heavy. you have to spit at the sharpener before using it or dip it in water, (that is why it is called a whetstone) that I learn from my dad when I was a child, he was a logger and farmer. So to this day, I do that on my own axes.
I thought "whet" meant to sharpen. I didn't know you needed to put water on it? (wetstone?)

What is the purpose of piling snow up around the outside walls of cabin? Doesn't that make it colder? Or does it keep cold and drafts out?
The snow serves to isolate the cold from the outside
Helps to block wind from going under cabin causing floors to be colder than if he hadn't've done it. Also saves on firewood, too.
The air trapped in the snow acts as thermal insulator. It also blocks the wind.
