By far one of the best tutorials I've seen. No made up stories to extend the video. Quick and straight to the point and includes where things are and export options.
This is how all tutorial videos on UA-cam should be. Concise, straight to the point. Thanks for the help mate, really appreciated!
i was going to say the same thing xD. awesome tutorial! The other tutorials skipped over how to do this and that, where it is located, etc. as if we know where everything is already... we wouldn't be watching if we knew where it is!! xD we don't even know WHAT it is xD
Thank you SO much! I'm new to SP but my new job making assets for a 3D FPS required using it- this tutorial saved my life! I was making a mushroom with a transparent veil and had no idea how to get the holes to actually be clear. You just improved my workflow by 300%! Awesome tutorial :)
Happy to help!

nice👍
Thank you so much!

One thing I'm trying to figure out is whether or not I can use an image as an opacity mask on a material. It seems one cannot do that on a material, though one can do it on a default fill layer. I need to do it using a material though. Though I suppose I could add the opacity mask to the material, but then I'd have to change a little over two dozen materials.
hey mate thats a very good tutorial. just one confusion I have is, why substance painter use gray channel to store the opacity map instead of the alpha channel?
THANK YOUUU
Дякую
Do you know how can I reappear that opacity same way in Unreal? The issue is my mesh doesn't become the glass but became dissapeared at all when I decreasing Unreal opacity channel by my parameter instead I get dirty glass effect. Of course I use our other channels as well...
thank youu
No problem!
Thanks a lot! Love this short styled tutorials...although I'm left with a question... Will it work with unity? I presume so, right? Won't be able to try it out till the weekend :(
There would be a little setup in Unity depending if you were using URP or HDRP. Substance Painter exports the opacity in the Alpha channel of the Base color. So you have to make sure you hookup the maps properly to the material. Let me know if you run into any issues.
what if your using PBR - GLOSS SPEC when using the pby rough with alpha setting it changes the entire textures i previously have on the model
If you are using PBR - Gloss Spec, you would have to recreate the textures once you switch it to PBR Metal Rough with Alpha Blending. As far as I know, there is now easy way to automatically convert PBR Gloss Spec to PBR Metal Rough in Substance Painter.
Here is what I found on the Substance Forums saying you have to recreate by hand: forum.substance3d.com/index.php?topic=24601.0
But I found this video that may help you: ua-cam.com/video/VEqbQ4Xvov4/v-deo.html
But again, worst case is that you would have to recreate the textures. Let me know how it works out!
How do you manually import the opacity map in maya?
Thank you! My professor had some videos he made for Substance, but then for the windshield part of the assignment, he was like "I already set up these layers before making this video." _So we weren't shown how to change opacity lol_. So, anyway, again, thank you!
That's unfortunate to hear but I'm glad my video help!
What a terrible professor.
Enabling the shader starts displaying artifacts (bright dots) around the model edges - it's visible also on your video. Is there a way to avoid it or is it just how this shader is?
I've already done this, how do I set it up in blender? When I used a mix shader and transparent BSDF the entire object turns transparent yet there's parts that shouldn't be. Help please!

Happy to help!
i have a question, doing all the configuration you did for export, can apply the opacity in marmoset? im trying to figure out how to do, i did chains with PBR texture and i add the opacity, and in the render in substance the opacity looks great, but in marmoset i dont know how make it
Each render engine handles opacity a little different. For Marmoset, there are a number of different transparency models (which can be enabled in the Transparency module found near the bottom of the material editor).
Is it possible to export the PNG with alpha transparency? The Opacity image always end up having a gray background.
You can create a custom output in the "Output Templates" where the opacity map exports into the Alpha Channel. Otherwise, you can just do that in an image editing software like Photoshop.
Please make a toturial from substance to Maya Vrya workflow. I am confused with maps because I don't know which maps I can use where. Please could you explain . I am using vray 2018.
I made a couple tutorials covering exactly that here:
V-Ray Next: ua-cam.com/video/DVquiZz-8to/v-deo.html
V-Ray 3.X: ua-cam.com/video/m42uWRtuHqo/v-deo.html
Hope these help!
@@OnMars3D believe me you became my on of the best teacher. Thank you for your efforts. Love your way to teach. 💝
@@ISaadMuhammad I appreciate that, thank you!
how to add text on glass without it disappearing with the glass
Hello question where i've to put the opacity part on maya to see the transparency on the rendering plleeaassee god , cause for the base color, roughness,normal...its okey BUt to see the transparency on mayaaa🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
When you take it out of Substance Painter, you have to use the render engine native settings for transparency. V-Ray -> Refraction and Arnold ->Transmission.
why opacity map affecting whole object while exporting as gltf file?any idea sir?
Did you setup the mask for the opacity map? You need to mask off areas that are transparent assuming the object is both opaque and transparent (like the goggles) and not completely transparent (like a glass bottle). I cover masks here in this tutorial: ua-cam.com/video/zASPStN4Hl4/v-deo.html
@@OnMars3D thanks for your response.i have add black mask for the glass object what i want to be transparent.and i added mask for whole object to
define separate material.but when i am exporting with opacity channel whole objects are being transparent when i remove the opacity channel its look fine but the glass is not being transparent.should i import glass object as different UV while exporting ?
Yeah, that would be my next suggestion. Create the transparent piece of the model as a separate material/object/texture set. It seems masks aren't supported with GLTF files.
@@OnMars3Dyes ..now its perfect 👏🏻👏🏻thank you so much..transparent object should be separated.i was stuck on this trouble more than one week..❤️..
No problem, happy to help!
why cant i find the sliders on AdobeSubstance3d painter???
I haven't installed AdobeSubstance3D yet, I'll take a look and see what's changed, then get back to you.
@@OnMars3D I was able to just put a new fill layer and change the opacity from there apparently
Thank you!
