Yeah, have the last name Cummings! Several things, such as work email addresses, get flagged as inappropriate and I have to send microsoft a copy of my passport to prove it. This issue affected my kids when they were teenagers, because nearly any variation of their name on a gaming system was bounced back because of the perception of 'bad' words. Still pisses me off. 'Bad words' aren't shit or hell. Bad language is name-calling, stereotyping, bullying, narcissistic language used in attempts to control others.
Could legally change your last name to something similar sounding? Or with one of those funny letters? 'Cūmmings' would maybe help in this situation, as a lot of bots that read 'bad' words ignore letters with accents. Changing your last name may feel like tarnishing your legacy or disrespecting your family, I get it, but I think it'd be a cool/funny story to tell, plus, it would more or less be the same but with an accent. Idk where you live, but changing surnames where I live is pretty affordable. I don't think it's more than about ~£40 where I live; small price to pay to avoid all that hassle.

“Microsoft said that the word ‘gay’ is inappropriate in any context” - Firstly, does that mean that they find coming out (“Mom, Dad, I’m gay” or idk what you would say) and for example the word LGBTQ offensive too? - Secondly, the original meaning of “gay” means “happy”……. - And how tf are you blocking everyone from an entire word that isn’t meant as a cuss word originally? Meanwhile in Ireland there are people called Gay, or Gaye which is pronounced the same. The host of our biggest talk show was called Gay Byrne. Microsoft needs to chill, because the word in itself is not offensive and context is key.
Gay doesnt just mean that guys it also means Happy believe it or not😐. So yeah basically Microsoft and this comment creator need to check the dictionary
WORDS mean NOTHING, only actions. Microsoft should 10x compensate of the damages they caused: 300 dollars will become 3000 and whatever the COD jackpot was that 2 has to be multiplied by 10

I mean, they can't really give them the official win because we don't know if they'd have won with Josh there or not, but they should be awarded whatever the first place prize was as compensation for the error. Whether it was in game items or cash prize, their opportunity to get those things was taken so that's the only fair way to rectify it.

When moral busy-body activists start filling in managerial positions in a company, they’re going to project with reckless abandon. “It’s other people and random bystanders who are spiteful, not me” is what they tell themselves. The tactic of establishing a standard of phraseology that constantly gets changed and updated without any consistency in logic isn’t merely stupidity. Because it started automatically banning everyone who said they lived in Cumming, Georgia
The school was literally *in* Cumming, Georgia
The mass ban did something to the computers that basically made it impossible to use them
And the software company was like “oh your students are horrible for pranking us, a poor little company!”
It's incredible that they can't just take 2 seconds to Google a city
@@aiiiia9971the software probably did it automatically when detecting disallowed words, and welcome to why I hate censorship it was literally because I was forever running into crap like this over mundane things, fun fact my grandfather's birth name nearly got me banned from a forum for including cock (his name was Cocque said as Cocky which at the time I had reason to think that was how it'd been spelt only been a few years since I found actual info there), like come on cocky isn't even a bad word by any definition so why does anyon think this inflexible automated crap is an advantage over having staff consider context?
@@aiiiia9971 Those two seconds could be spent making more money. Why waste them googling something that could end up costing you? /s
That's not an error, but they denied facts and refused to make exceptions in the name of fairness.
The game companies don’t care about the individual anymore it’s more like they think it’s a privilege you even get to play there games 😂😂
It's crazy that the richer you are the less you're expected to pay when you make a mistake.
Nobody rich made the mistake, it was the indians they hired
The fact that they're saying gay is a bad word is ridiculous
I'm honestly baffled that they didn't even go to google maps for like 30 seconds and confirm if its true, I guess I'm overestimating simple things from big companies now :/
Never overestimated company skills, besides the willingness to sue :D
Just because a company is good in one particular thing (e.g. making Operating systems)
it does not mean anything else. and i mean anything. They can be good or bad at everything else. just like a rich person can be a lovely Character or a brat
And I doubt he's the only xbox gamer from there too
i think its matter of AI or automated system dealing with user feedback, with its over 90% innacuraccy on average, its basically matter of AI not being able to understand what kind of request it is and sends automated response that is universal and not related to issue from the user
Its because of their left wing agenda that removes logic from decisions. Where they state using the word gay is not acceptable under any circumstances so here are some facts: Globally, approximately 88,569 people bear the *surname* "Gay" The name is most common in the United States, where it is borne by 42,244 people, or 1 in 8,580 Americans.
It's Microsoft, they don't use G%gle, they used Bing, and Bing had been designed by Microsoft to block all instances of "gay"! 😂😂😂
"The word 'gay' is inappropriate in any context"? lol. I've known several people with the last name "Gay". Sucks for them, I guess
I would sue the hell out of Microsoft if this happened to me and win EASILY
You can only sue for an actual loss. What have you lost in this case? What's its value?
$300 @@RacingAnt
In the full story he got 300$ worth of Microsoft things
@@roseabee7503 exactly. Hardly "suing the hell out of Microsoft."
This is why I'm not too upset when a company makes a mistake, but absolutely infuriated when they refuse to acknowledge it.
People being offended by things has seriously gotten out of hand.
Nobody was offended.
@@ffotograffyddsaying the word gay is inappropriate is literally the definition of being offended. Tool
Ah so you're outraged about all these offended people??? Good idea, then you'll blend in and can infiltrate their organization from the inside.
Good on that Mayor, he probably knew he'd face that issue with other companies if he didn't sort it out immediately.
That Mayor really knew when to stand up for all his fellow Gays.
😂
Funny but should only be a joke

Passed through Fort Gay once while driving from Cunting, Virginia to Bumfuck, Idaho.
Then you should also visit Dildo, NL, Canada
There is also Fugging, Austria if you ever travel to Europe. They actually changed their name 4 years ago in part because people kept stealing the sign and the general mockery.
And then travel to Sexmoan, Pampanga, Philippines
Might also want to go to Hell, Norway, while you're at it.
Don’t forget all the towns in Pennsylvania.
An apology from a huge company isn't enough.
To be fair to Microsoft, Josh did live on Cocknballz Street
