Congratulations Alan on the sponsorship. That was one rad video man. I was there fri, sat, and sun. Saw you in line at the long quad chair. I aspire to obtain some of your skills, I know the risks. You are a tough cookie! Also you help me learn trail features with your vids. Rad.
Doood, not a Rad way to end it. Gratz on the Giant sponsorship 🤙 Groovy tunes on that first ride, & Belinda Carlisle, nice … a friend of mine had such a crush on her back in the day.
LOL! Apparently I didn't love Belinda enough to get the lyrics right. It was a hard crash, but it was rad because I walked away relatively unharmed. :) Thanks! I'm stoked on Giant!
Looks like how my bike looked a month ago. I suck at jumps and got bucked. Turned my tire so much on the crash, but didn't look bad initially. I turned it just a bit to correct it until I looked and saw that my Pike had turned it to a Manitou. Guess it spun my wheel a lot more than I thought!
Great video as always and congratulations on your Giant sponsorship! You've been riding a Giant for some time an thought you might get picked up. I also wanted to thank you for taking a lap on Blue Steel with my son and his buddy at Summit a few weeks back. That's all they talked when we got back to the cabin. Keep up the great work and look forward to your upcoming videos.
Congrats on Giant, that's awesome! Sorry about those crashes, I also had a rough closing day at Snow Summit. Flat tire on my first run and then crashed several times on Miracle on my last run of the season
Thanks Thomas! Man, it seems like a whole lot of us were slashing and puncturing tires on closing weekend. I and my buddy did the same. We both ended up needing new tires. But we still had rad days!
Hey MTB ALAN, great meeting you this day, sorry you had multiple off's @ 9.20 minute mark you can see me and my lady chilling this was our last run of the day. I will be back next season with a full suspension bike but my hard tail was still a blast and muscle beach was fun for sure. Keep up the great content!
Good meeting you too! I've also spent some fun hardtail days up at Snow Summit. But yeah, it's more fun on a full-squish. See you up there next seasaon!

Nice! Love Giant. Affordable and dependable . Met you at Santa’s village a few years ago. Kinda made a fool of myself. First time at a bike park and I was stoked. Still riding bought full suspension Giant. Love riding. Keep the videos coming
Yo! Ha! Well, I'm kind of a big goof, so don't worry about making a fool of yourself. We fools have fun! And totally agree on Giant. That's part of why I went with them. 🤘🏾
first... You're just fantastic at editing videos. I loved the cuts to you in the garage pointing out the warnings.. So... comparing the footage from the first Westridge run with the crash on the last run, you came into the berm 6" to a foot further to the right on the crash run. Riding over the starting edge of the berm, 6-12" to the right makes the part of the berm you ride over just that much higher and probably that much easier to buck a tired Alan. (I don't know why I felt compelled to compare the footage sitting here recovering from an OTB of my own from June) Great video though. Thanks for creating great content!
Bro Congratulations on the sponsorship 💪🏾💯. Sick video great storytelling, glad you was able to walk away after that last crash. Looking forward to all the new adventures 💯
Yeah, I rode the Trance X for a bit, and was pleasantly surprised how capable it was while staying poppy and fun. The Reign handles more gnar and somehow still remains poppy and easy in the air.
You cut the corner before going into the big left hander and that's where it all went wrong. When you entered the berm you jumped into it and landed in the loose stuff in the bottom and turned and lost your wheel in it. I reckon the forks only twisted as a result of the crash but not the cause. Just throwing my 20 cents worth in. You've come a long way on the jumps man, You're killing it! Congrats on the support.
Oh yeah...the forks turned once the tire started to slide. So it wasn't the cause, but it sure didn't help! 😅 There was enough force to pull the tired off the rim, so yeah...it wasn't gonna be a good end either way. And yeah...that berm jump has a hard buck which you can see at 1:20. When I crashed, I came in a bit too far inside and a bit too hot. Thanks! I'm stoked to have Giant and ODI behind me!
Surely not the way to end the season but no bodily injury so all is well. Is that sniper line over the berm edge a thing or just a miscalculation that spit you into the inside marbles? Bad days at the bike park suck. But that's the beauty of a season pass. Grab a beer and come back another day.
Yo! Fortunately I had one more weekend after this to get some clean laps in. The sniper line is a thing. I'd watched Steve do it a couple times and followed him in on a previous lap (1:20). But when I did it without a tow, I hit the line wrong. But yeah...it was good to shake it off and come back on closing weekend for some good laps. Of course, I dunno that I'll do that sniper line again. LOL!
Forgot to mention in my earlier comment that whoever is doing the editing on your vids is doing a great job. I loved the wind animations as you were hitting those jumps. 😆👍
Alan, great content and it's clear that your production quality is really going up! Since that crash looks to be hands first, how did the Mobius brace work out?
Thanks Steve! That Mobius X8 has helped in a lot of crashes. In this one, it for sure saved me. I could feel a bit of hyperextension in my fingers and palm. I am pretty sure that if I'd not been wearing it, I'd be in a cast or something now. Funny...I was just wondering if I should stop wearing it. I think I'm gonna keep rocking it for a while.
Closing day wasn’t good for a lot of riders. Second run took a bad buck on miracle whip went OTB. Off the bike for a while with a mild shoulder separation.
Sorry to hear. Healthy vibes. 👊🏾 There were for sure a lot of people getting broke off that weekend. Saw a guy with what appeared to be a broken femur. Yikes!
I was looking at your friend's 100% Aircraft helmet, I looked it up and the price wasn't bad compared to say Fox's Proframe, but the details were super light. Does it have MIPS? Does it have anything besides like "padding"? Can anyone chime in? What's your favorite downhill rated full face and why?
The Aircraft and Proframe are in two different classes. The Aircraft is more your full DH and bike park helmet. The Proframe is more of a trail full-face. The Aircraft doesn't have MIPS but it's a sturdy ass helmet for how light it is. I have the composite one (not carbon) but mostly because I didn't have the cash for the carbon. The Aircraft 2 has 100%'s Smartshock system which is their answer to MIPS. The 2 is what I *really* wanted, but again, the money. For DH days (bike park or shuttle), I really like the Aircraft. It's super comfortable and breathes well. For trail days, the Proframe is good. Though I prefer the TLD Stage. It's a lot more comfortable. I also ran the Smith Mainline for a while. It's a good in-betweener. It's lighter than most DH helments, but is DH rated. And it works pretty well for a trail helmet, though not as light and breathable as the Stage. If you want a do-it-all, something like the Smith Mainline is a good compromise. For me, I have two full-face helmets. One for trail riding and one for the more DH days. Hope that helps!
@@mtb_alan Thanks for the suggestions. I was thinking more about the newer Proframe "RS" that looks to be downhill certified, but I'm thinking I would use it as a catch all and still upgrade to something along the Rampage quality for serious riding if I'm ever dumb enough to try. I noticed on the Smith website as well as the 100% that they have regular old D ring straps, the Proframe seems to have some sort of magnetic job that they say is one hand operable but I've never put my hands on one yet. One thing I will say is that 100% has some jammin graphic schemes, but if I'm going by looks, Troy Lee is in the hunt. I need a store that has all of them to try on.
Ah yes. Forgot about the RS. DH rating is definitely good to have. I’d say get one on your dome and see what feels good. As far as the fidlock clasp, it’s pretty damn convenient. I am used to the D-ring but on trail days where I’m removing my lid trailside more often, the ability to quickly do and undo the clasp is nice.
That is a great question. Sometimes we try different lines. Sometimes it works. Other times, not so much. 😅 FWIW, I had done the line following Steve in a previous run (1:21) but came in faster on the run where I crashed...let myself get hella bucked.
