Yep. Culex is not messing around this time. Along with his new glorious 3D look, he and his crystals are at PEAK power! It'll take everything you've got to win this time!
I loved the postgame bosses so much, they give you an actual reason to use all the most powerful equipment and items from throughout the game. Usually I find there is no use for overpowered items and in fact I don't even want to equip them 'cause they make the game too easy so it makes me wonder why I even bothered getting them to begin with. Having bosses that are tough even with all stats maxed and the best equipment in the game makes it feel a lot more rewarding to go to the effort of becoming so powerful to begin with.
I believe my live reaction to this track in game went a little like this: "No, wait. Yoko please! Put down the strings! *Oh. My. God* " Granted, that was also partly because Culex's 3D ass was now staring me down. And i knew exactly what pain awaited me.
@@LegoCowManZNobuo Uematsu of the final fantasy series composed this, but the arrangement in both the original Mario rpg and the remake was done by Shimomura. Her style definitely comes through with the strings.
go ddamn. this has got to be one of the best remixes. it perfectly captures the intencity and the power of this behemoth in its new 4th wall breaking full form. its an intence match that keeps you on the edge of youre seat whole through out!
Joke aside, in the Charity of Seven Stars Stream, that's run by Chris Niosi, He truly have Yuri Lowental(who's Cecil Harvey from FF4) to voicing Culex!
Really really good arrangement from Yoko, I'm just not sure if it beats the 4 other remixes we've gotten from FFXIV this year as well LOL Definitely love the percussion in this version though
@@moonlitwyvern6840 We're getting enough modern remixes of Battle 2 to make a large scale mashup at this point. The saxophone in the FFXIV version would go so well with the strings at 1:05.
What's funny is there are two more boss themes over this one in Final Fantasy IV. Four Fiends and Zeromus' theme. How one typical boss theme could go this hard, especially back then, shows Uematsu's genius.
this did not have to go so hard 🔥🔥🔥 still impressed that they managed to make an epic theme sound even more epic, gawd damn!! by far one of my favorite tracks in this entire franchise
The thing that surprised me was that I had never beaten Culex as a kid. So when I triggered this fight, my immediate thought was "Welp! I'm dead!" because Culex downed Mario and Bowser, two of my heaviest hitters from the word go. Basically, it became a tag team of having Peach reviving Mario and Mallow healing him. But then the part where I started going "Wait... I CAN win this?!" was when I saw the message "Culex FP is gone." The reason why that fight wasn't a total wash? Peach was rocking the Lazy Shell armor which turned CUlex's most devastating attacks into a joke.
Was it Culex or Culex 3D? I would feel you if it was the first one, but 3D slams hard unless you get good at perfect blocks... edit: maybe I just suck, it took me a while to get the second fight completed and many turns.
It does. However, its origins come from the Bergamasque suite by: Claude Debussy. Listen to movement 4 - Passepied This isnt the only game composition that rips off this piece of music.
@@scottythegreat1 I mean it makes sense, lots of Japan musicians do this kind of composition when their stories are about a world in danger were you fight deity monsters

Culex 3D might've been hard if I had banned the Lazy Shell. Instead, my first try saw me Red Star one or two of his crystals at level 26, although since I killed Culex first, I then had to go through a _second_ 9999-HP lifebar, dragging out the fight to 59 turns. _"That is quite a long time."_
