Left channel around 2:20 I can hear more keyboards... other than that, it sounds bigger, spacier than the CD i have of it I bought back in 2008. Some slightly new atmospheric movement by the synth around 3:48, sliding left to right... it's an overall bigger, wider sound than the CD. I hear tweaking of reverb, emphasis on that keyboard... interesting remaster. Not dramatic, but different.
Pre-ordered and cannot wait to get my hands on this! Lips of Ashes was always my favourite song from the record and I can only imagine how good it sounds now!
It was before Steven became careful about dynamic range and mastering. The original 'In Absentia' CD is really compressed and overly loud. Later solo efforts like 'Grace For Drowning' and 'Raven' sound much better.
@@MrPonkine yeah I hear you, but it still sounded better than a lot of its peers at the time, and the engineering is fantastic on it. Deadwing really suffered from over compression. You can even hear cracking during the chorus of "Start of something beautiful". That album really needs a remaster imo
@@88omair Technically Deadwing has already had a remaster, both albums had a vinyl reissue a few years back with new masters but for some reason they didn't put them out in other formats. I guess they wanted to do them as expanded editions but it took them a while to get it finished properly.
Yeah well this just made this a new album for me. The original is one of my favs but I get fatigued so quickly and always hesitated to play it for my other audio engineer pals because it’s just SO squashed. But this album, with Stevens new mantra of “less is more” mastering is like a literal dream come true. Thanks Steven for making a fellow audiophile’s day!!!
THis is from Burning Shed - Hi, Thanks very much for buying this deluxe edition of one of PT’s classic albums from us. We have been made aware of an unfortunate mistake on the Blu-ray disc. It should have included the audio from CD2 in high resolution (24/96) but those tracks/files are not there. Obviously we are eager for you to have a complete Blu-Ray disc but this is going to take a few weeks as a new master and manufacturing will take time. The “good” part is that you don’t have to do anything. We will automatically send a replacement Blu-ray to everyone who has bought this from us. Kscope are sorry for this mishap but please rest assured it will all be ok - you’re in good hands. We will email you again when the discs are about to be shipped. Please note that all replacement discs will be sent by standard mail without tracking. We won’t be sending any discs by courier. Anyone who bought the deluxe edition from other sellers will need to contact Kscope directly about getting a replacement disc. Watch their social media accounts for more information. Make sure to ask for you replacement blurays everybody

@@AJDOLDCHANNELARCHIVE Sounds identical. And I'm a SUPER stickler for noticing the smallest things in audio. Shrug. Others have said they hear zero difference also. To each their own I guess.
According to the UA-cam video description, it sounds like there are 2 new masters. Wilson's and then whatever is on the Blu Ray which may have been done by a mastering engineer. Well, I hear a more rounded out overall sound with this audio. I recall revisiting this album last summer and kind of realizing that the mastering from 2000 gave it a nearly over compressed feel but just hyped enough to still be enjoyable. I'm glad they didn't remix the album outright and sought to preserve more of the instruments' natural Dynamics and in turn, you can hear more of the low end from the keyboards and even the ride cymbal and perhaps even some stereo movement from certain notes played by Colin Edwin, particularly in the bridge. Or maybe it's my room that is causing it. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to grabbing this. Brings back good memories
This is clearly not from the remastered version. If you look at UA-cam statistics from the video, you'll see a loudness level of 6.1dB, the same as the old master. Meanwhile, in the teaser ua-cam.com/video/A-QWi1UfrU0/v-deo.html, you 'll see a loudnes level of 1.1dB which it means a more dynamic master.
The guitar to me sounds like a locomotive bursting through a mountain while riding a bear. I thought the original guitars where 10/10 but this feels like something else... Same quality even louder
I hear ZERO difference. You're all majorly into placebos? I listened back to back many times over. IF there is a difference, it's incredibly minor and there's not a chance any of you are hearing the differences you are, by doing a UA-cam comparison.
@@needsmoreclipping What monitors are you using? Sounds overall less compressed and the mids sound airier on my Tv5's. Agree youtube isn''t the best place to compare mixes though.
Well, it does it for me, and I've only just listened to it thro' my MacBook speakers.......Pity its too rich a package for me at £60, hopefully it will come out in a different (cheaper) format at some point.
@@redsciurus The human ear can't distinguish between FLAC quality and higher resolution, that's why that site HDtracks is bullshit and people are wasting their money. Not that many people buy into that shit, but still. Get a good stereo and a well produced/mixed/mastered album and do some more tests, you can hear a difference, even if subtle to you.
Sounds exactly the same as the older non-remastered version on UA-cam. I understand that a pure comparison can't be made from UA-cam, but at the same time you should be able to hear SOME noteworthy difference. And there is none. At all.
You're absolutely right) I extracted audio from this video and compared it to the original release - it's identical in dynamics) I don't get the joke. There was a teaser video couple of weeks ago - and it clearly consisted of fragments from remastered version.
The world needs a PT reunion. AND maybe a tour.

I'm surprised they remastered IA considering its one of their best sounding albums

Eduardo Rojas Morales yeah the mix itself was always flawless but the master was like many others made around that time.

The lower vocals at the start feels to be more pronounced. Better separation. Might just be the headphones I'm listening though though.
Sooo they should totally tour again, you know in honor of the remaster and what not right?

The drums and synths have more room to breathe. i think this is better but it will take time to be sure, the song was already perfect.
