Long bomb 3's that some coaches would be livid about, alley oops from under your nose up to 80 ft., opposing stars missing bunnies & leaving low percentage players bucket naked on the 3 point line, no look passes that make a big man lose direction, etc etc. Just an exciting brand of basketball..

      Luka and Kyrie are often putting up a show. This makes it very hard to root against them and can be pretty demoralizing to the other team. The most important factor is that it is near impossible to stop their offense, while it is very hard to score on them. We've seen many possessions where the Wolves simply used up all the shotclock, didn't get anything done and Dallas immediately scoring a dunk or a layup on the other side. That is just frustrating as hell, especially for a coach too.

  • @SDesWriter
    @SDesWriter 24 дні тому +100

    And a second thing you're clueless about is Gafford / Lively. The reason Kidd plays them the way he does is because BOTH are better when they play shorter stints. They have more energy and combine for great numbers despite neither of them being able to score from more than 3 feet from the rim. If Lively plays more he will get into foul trouble AND he will wear down. By playing them the way he does, Kidd ensures he gets maximum effort while they're in there. They also have slightly different skillsets, and by playing them against certain lineups he can utilize what they do well more. You'd have a point if Lively could score, but both of them just rebound and block shots. Lively's just a little better at rebounding and passing.
    I am SO FUCKING SICK of people referencing the +/- numbers. Did it ever occur to you that Gafford plays against the other team at the start of the 1st and 3rd quarters when the opponents are at their strongest? When Lively is playing, he's going to get more favorable matchups and play against the starters when they've been on the floor and are wearing down. I agree he's more effective, but not the way you are trying to portray it. Because of the rotations, at the end of the game Kidd can play the guy who is having the most success that night.

Bucks and Sixers never perform when it matters (healthy or not) and this team has a track record of falling apart against opponents who don’t give a shit how talented they are and the Mavericks are that. People are getting so caught up with the WC/EC matchups
    Dallas played a hurt Clippers team that was limping their way into the playoffs. They then beat a young and inexperienced OKC team that literally played with their pants down in the 2nd round. Then they played a blindfolded Minnesota team in the WCF that won their Finals against the Nuggets and then forgot to show up for the Conference Finals and ONLY BARELY LOST. Celtics in 6 without Porzingis, Celtics in 5 with him. It'll be close, but experience matters and outside of Kyrie the Mavericks lack it.
    Luka and Kyrie get floated as this unstoppable duo while the Jays averaged basically the same stat line in the ECF:
    60.1/15.3/9.3 vs 59.4/13.2/12.8
    You get more assists with Luka/Kyrie because of the Dallas offensive style, and you get more rebounds with the Jays because they're wings and not guards.
    Series comes down to how well Dallas' stars handle and elite defensive backcourt, and which team's role players play better. If White/Jrue/Al are hitting shots the Celtics are tough to beat. If they're not and Dallas keeps hitting those corners 3s, Dallas will be hard to beat.

I think the difference is going to be if Dallas can get the inside game going with the pick and rolls and lobs. Suddenly Boston will have to face a real strong defensive machine with demonstrated paint dominance in both sides, and the their leidership and clutch on more experienced Kyrie and Luka clutch monsters. In summary, it may be too much for Boston to face something that I doubt they have during the entire 2023 24 season. Check their losses in the regular season,

    In general I like your analysis, but this was painfully uninformed. Minnesota DID NOT shut down Kyrie. He missed numerous open shots (including a couple at the rim), and turned the ball over at least twice by trying to make an impossible interior passes. He just had a bad game. It happens. When he played them during the season he played fine (23/6/3 & 19/4/2). He wasn't shut down, and Luka put up big numbers. The role players didn't step up and their defense allowed a shit ton of open 3s. After that game, the Mavericks changed up their starting lineup, had a team meeting about defense, and became the #1 defense in the league for the last 6 weeks (and the playoffs). The way they're playing now, if Boston attempts to shut down Kyrie, they will get burned by scoring from Jones and Washington. Not just from 3 like against Minnesota, but they'll be able to take it to the rim because Boston doesn't have a rim protector (even if Porzingas is back). So you're talking about open 3 pt shots AND drive to the basket (drawing fouls and making easy shots). The Pacers were eating up Boston with drives in their series, which is why they were able to lead until the last 2 minutes of 3 games. The Mavs are 10 times better at driving with their passing and their players.
    Seriously man, weak take on the way both teams play and what they've been able to do (and have failed to do). You think Hardy is going to be shy about coming hard down the lane after he did it against Towns AND Gobert several times (successfully)? Boston is in a lot of trouble unless they magically improve their shooting numbers drastically.

    Some more detail about the game the Mavs lost to the T-Wolves: Yes, Kyrie wasn't balling well at all, but the Timberwolves as a whole shot amazingly well, while the Mavs as a whole shot poorly. (except for Hardy and the bigs, who were fine)
    Luka wasn't 'fine' in that game, he shot 33% from the field, which is really bad for how well he normally shoots. The Mavs as a whole were low energy and the hustle and 50-50 balls just were all going to Minnesota.
    I love this detailed breakdown of the upcoming finals though, you really made a ton of excellent points and there is very little I can find that I do not agree with. The only thing that comes up is that you say that Tatum is one of the best options to defend Luka at the end of the game. I disagree with that, he has the size, but his defense has been mediocre the entire playoffs. Jrue is by far the best option for longer stretches and Derrick White or Jalen Brown could cover him for shorter stretches. We all know Luka is a problem, but if Ant and McDaniels can't do it, nobody on the Celtics can do it either.

    The Mavs definitely had a tougher road to the Finals than the Celtics, but let's not act like the teams they beat did not have their own questions marks. The Clippers were led by aging, declining stars, one of whom was out for most of the series. OKC was the #1 seed, but still had no real playoff experience. Outside of Game 5 against the Wolves, that series was still very competitive even while Ant and KAT struggled offensively. I think that the Mavs will win, but the Celtics are younger, (mostly) healthier, more experienced, and their offense does not solely rely on their star players. Again, the Celtics did have an easier path in comparison, and the Mavs did have injuries of their own. I'm not talking about that. But to act like the Mavs never had certain advantages in their favor would be disingenuous.
