Caruso is aging, has reached his ceiling and is probably to expensive, especially for a team that is going into rebuilding mode anyway. In terms of trade value Giddey is the better deal, merely because there is still the possibility he'll improve and he is much younger than Caruso. And really, what Win Now team is just a Caruso away to win a title.

Yes. Either our information is incomplete and they did get picks with the deal .. or they are completely retarded and just gave AC away for a gamble. The most valuable guard defender in the league after Jrue Holiday, for a player that is a project.
Giddey is a great playmaker 😂 I'm an OKC fan so I've followed Giddey forever. The guy was setting triple double records in his debut season. He put up 13, 8 and 6 his first season in spite of being an 18 year old. He was the youngest guy in the draft. One thing he was highly criticized for his first season was his efficiency so the next season he puts up 17, 8 and 6 on 48% from the field this time as a 19 year old which is the age most one and done's come into the league. And this season with Chet coming in and J Dub taking a leap he just fell down the pecking order. His main strength is his playmaking and trust me, he's been one of the best passers in the league since he was 18. But on our team Shai is the lead guard and everyone just kind of shares the ball, we don't have a guy who runs the show from the point so he's never been able to really do what he does best which is playmake. I really think if The Bulls give him the keys to the offense he will shine and be one of the most fun players to watch in the league. This was a good deal for both teams. Dude is still only 21. There will be multiple lottery picks in this years draft who are older than him and he has three years experience in the league.
@@jonmeekins9439 His first two seasons in the league when he was a teenager he was grabbing 8 boards a night. He could be a 20, 8 and 8 guy next season easily. What more could you ask for? Caruso is great but people keep taking about a year ago when The Bulls turned down two firsts for him. That was last year. He has one year left on his deal now so he ain’t worth two firsts. Maybe one first and then one or two seconds. I’d take Giddey over that 100%. Only competitive teams would have wanted Caruso so a first and two seconds might as well have been three seconds as that first would be in the mid to late 20’s.
Comment to come back to, after Giddey started most of the season, averaged 14-18 points, 5-7 boards, 6-7 assists (8 if you draft a lob target), was slightly below league average in efg%, say like 1 or 2 percent below it, 34/35% from 3 while being left a bit open from the top of the key, but guarded in the corners, left stuff to be desired in his free throw rate, but got pretty close to being league average on D and wasn't a target on that side, was great in the locker-room and did a lot in the city of the court, and by far the best passer on the team.
The fact that their stats were comparable and JB guarded Luka are Kyrie for 5 games is what gave him the nod in my eyes. Tatum had a really solid series for sure. And his ability to guard Dallas’ bigs was important to the Celtics wining for sure. But Jaylen Brown doing what he did to neutralize the head of the snake was very impressive to me.
He was able to guard the bigs as the bigs barely got the ball near the rim when Tatum was on them. The times when they did pass it down there, he was punished for it, just like anyone else.
Not to mention, Tatum literally started jacking up shots to try to steal Brown spotlight. There was 2 different finals games where brown was having a great game and tatum was jacking up bricks and when tatum came out in the second half he started holding the ball hostage and forcing up shots when his team was already up 10 trying to pad his stats That’s why his FG% was so bad in 4/5 games, because he was literally forcing horrible shots this to pad his own total and didn’t care if he had to go 11/29 as long as he got his 20+ points
The thing I will say about Giddey is that his primary role is a distributor, but OKC always gave the ball to SGA or J Dub. Kind of hard to be a playmaker if you don't have the ball.
This in particular. Now the threat of scoring actually made Shai and J-Dub more effective doing this, but Giddey is still a better passer than either of them. They can just ignore him, unless he is within a few feet from the basket. On a different team, he would probably have progressed a whole lot more. OKC just has way too many good young players that are all more easy to plug into the offense / defense.
He was one of the best defenders on both Luka and Kyrie. Even though it was Jrue who was the best defender, they rotated him off as much as they can and didn't want anything to do with him.
Derrick white had the most impact on both offesense defense. Next to white it was jaylen brown and tillman but improving your teams defense by +0.4 points per 100 is nothing. That's the kind of defense people attack luka and jokic for in regular season
If i could show one clip of a guy who has no idea what he is talking about as it relates to Josh Giddey, this would be it. Unbelievable. He is not the guy responsible for losing to the mavs if he only plays 10-12 mpg.. If you want to say that about his -20 game, what about saying he was a +2 in the game they lost by one or that he was a +6 in the game they won by 4.
I would seriously consider swapping to another team as a fan. Most people are already more fans of individual players than teams per se, so if you trade away all the exciting and fun players, that team is no longer fun to watch. Being a fan is not having a toxic stranglehold with a franchise that mocks their fans by the sheer stupidity of their decisions. I mean, that is pushing it a little, because they do have good individual players still, but they could have gotten SO MUCH for a player like AC, he is the perfect target for a contender to put their already good team over the top.
@@naoikeda9472 what? Having a power scale makes no sense as that was in the 90s vs 2023 and they didn't find anything to even get charges pressedd against him

@@CobiOnTheRocks what does that have to do with anything? We are talking about individual players. If one can’t play they can’t play. Y’all are just being weird.
Y'all sleeping on Giddey. Giddey is putting up higher Points, Rebounds and Assists on fewer minutes than Caruso and also on a lower usage rate. He is already better than Caruso ever was in his prime and Giddey will get even better with time. Bulls won this trade and it's not even close
Technically you are correct. Normally though, you start to trade for picks and young players, instead of only a young player and no picks. The value prospect for a player of Caruso's caliber seems completely off. The rebuild is a phase where you get rid of good players and turn them into future capital. Good deals that are heavily in your favor as the opposing team is getting good (win now) players.
It's insane how much he overreacted. He is either overreacting for content or doesn't understand that Giddey is 21 and his numbers double when he isn't on the court with Shai. This felt like a take I would find on Reddit versus a basketball analysist
@@Sup4ast4r that means you have to construct a roster specifically catered to Josh Giddey's strengths and, more importantly, his weaknesses, and Josh Giddey is not talented enough to structure your whole roster around.

@@malk5700 Caruso didnt save the Bulls for sure. What did the Bulls win in 3 years with Caruso? 6th, 19, and 9th in the ECF in the years. Bulls didnt want to pay him next year, so they unloaded him, for a guy that at least MAY have a chance to improve. Bulls already knew Caruso is at his peak NOW, and it aint enough with the roster.
@@maxmeier532 i never said that he did but he’s way better than giddey let’s be fr. but i’ll let you figure that out next season when he’s stinking it up in chicago
Nobody is saying he's a saviour, but in such a team-centric sport like basketball, adding a player like Caruso (elite defender and good 3-pt shooter) to an already great team with a bonafide superstar on it is such a nice move. When taking fit into account, there's not many guys who fit better alongside OKC's core of SGA, Jdub, and Chet.
Rusty, I get that you could’ve gotten more, but this feels like an over-emotional response to Giddey’s most recent season. He averaged 16.6/8/6 at age 20 and then started this season getting jail baited and cancelled while jdub and chet ascended essentially removing the need for giddeys strengths on the team. There is 100% potential in this guy and I can see him working well with the spacing of white/ayo/vuc/paw while filling the weakness of rebounding at the forward position.
I don't get the hate. Caruso is a great role player that maximizes on a playoff team. Giddey has way more upside as a starter and has the passing skills to run a complex offense. We just got young talent for a guy we would never realize the value of. This response is so typical of Bulls fans. Overvaluing their grinders (it happened with Hinrich, among others) rather than getting talent.
Why is everybody acting like Josh Giddey isn’t a 6’8 playmaking triple double dropping 21 year old he was hooping before that team got as deep as it did how quickly they forget 😪
it's always hilarious to me when someone gets judged off of one playoff run. Had people saying Rui and Gabe Vincent are going to be all-stars because they played decent for 18 games. now they're saying a 21 year-old is washed because he played bad for 10 games. And funniest of all, 'Ant is the next MJ' because he played way above his head for a couple series. This happens every single year and NBA fans never learn from it because they all have goldfish memory. Inevitably, they always regress to the mean. Giddey is still a good young player with plenty of potential, if he can put the false allegations behind him.
Honestly, I felt criticism on Josh Giddy is way too harsh. You talk about lack of all-star potential, but he is 21 and already broke nba records and definitely much better than Moody. You can't say he won't improve his 3 ball ethier, lonzo, and brook are good examples. For his size, skill set, and athletics, he can finish very well. If he is the lead guard, he will be very good. Chicago might not be the best place and it might not have been the best trade but thats not his fault, he didnt ask to be the youngest player in his draft to a team about to compete for a chip and he didnt ask to be traded to the bulls ethier. I think spurs, Hawks (if full rebuild), nets, and raptors are all better situations for him
@roundtrip385 tf are you talking about? Giddey is 21 and a tripple doubles threat with the right team around him, the only reason why he regressed is because Media and with Chet OKC wanted him to have the ball a bit more and he had some minutes taken off. He will be a superstar one day, he needs a fresh start.
@@SirGergilton N wed not need to be the fresh start. He is not a threat, and if thats what it takes for him to to regress chicago isnt the spot for him. You're the only one that is being naive about this situation.

Unless you are Phil Jackson, if you dont win as a Lakers coach in your first two years, you will be fired. They are not even that good to compete with Denver or the T-Wolves anymore. After LeBron, they should at least 4 years to a coach and see if he could work it out with AD leading.
Legit, this is what happens when Rusty calls out a player for being horrible publically, they start to thrive. I think it is a subconsious planned thing to make the bulls into a good team.
I understand everyone likes Caruso, but he isnt a franchise player, he is much older than Giddey, meaning he's has reached his ceiling, and his contract was only 1 more year.
The recency bias of people is crazy. Why dont you use your brain instead of copying what everyone else is saying ? Last year giddey would've been traded for 2 firsts and a young player now you're acting like he's not worth a hamburger after 1 bad playoff series .
Giddey only averaged that because the team wasn't good enough yet. They were still experimenting and this year his minutes has gone down and his numbers dipped across the word while making 0 progress in his game. It's not just recency bias

@D1_Hater_69 How is saying the percentage that Caruso actually shot, comparing him to Steph Curry? Caruso is a top defensive guard, possibly the best in the league or second best. His ability to shoot and be a reasonable playmaker on the offensive end as well, just makes him a high value player. And no .. he is not comparable to Steph Curry, nobody is. Lots of players shoot 40% or more, none of them are Curry. (except for Steph and his brother Seth)
@D1_Hater_69 White is debatable, but SGA and Smart most defintely are not better than Caruso defensively. Smart is a bit stronger maybe, which makes him more switchable on larger guys, but he is nowhere near as much as impactful with his hands or his lateral movement. I don't think Caruso is really good all of a sudden at being a shooter, but a good defender that can take a three at reasonable efficiency is exactly what most teams in the league need more of.
@D1_Hater_69 He is not a star player, but a very good defensive roleplayer that would start on nearly every team. I think he will start on the Thunder as well.
Tbh idk if you watched the finals very well, Jaylen brown was definitely the more important defender in the series because he had the Luka assignment and managed to slow him down very well and he also was the more clutch player in the series as he hit the most important shot in game 2. Even though Jayson Tatum had better numbers, Jaylen brown had more impact on the game especially in the clutch.
Giddey still has upside whole Caruso is just a vet who's getting older and not being aggressive. But he's a great defender which giddey can also be. Billy Donovan will coach this guy well.
This dude is just mad. Giddey has his off the court issues I know. But on the court he started for the best team in the west and balled out in his role. Give him the offense and you will be surprised. Should of obviously got a couple picks but Giddey does have huge upside.
As a Thunder fan, the Josh Giddey hate is kind of getting out of hand. While Thunder is an especially poor rebounding team, Giddey usually was either the 2nd or even best rebounder most of the time. He's still one of the best inbound passers in the league and, during the stretches of games where SGA was injured, he was unironically our best player as a number one option. I don't know how well he'd work with Coby White considering their positions, but Giddey is definitely a good player that just doesn't work too well in the Thunder rotation. Do I think Thunder got a better deal getting Caruso? Yes. But it would be shocking if Giddey didn't put out some really good numbers after he's gotten acclimated to the Bulls.
it seems like caruso might become the next jrue holiday... a top class defender who gets underrated by front offices and underrates his way to multiple champonships
I didnt know that Rusty is one of Tatum dlckriders. Tatum was statpadding in every game. Down 30 in 4th quater he was out there with bench warmers. Up 20 in 4th he was out there with bench warmers.
Tatum IS a Kobe disciple. Kobe took the same approach vs the '04 Pistons. Couldn't score when it mattered to win, but all of a sudden stopped being total garbage in garbage time The difference is that Tatum was the 2nd best reason for Boston winning, while Kobe was THE NUMBER ONE REASON the Lakers got smoked in 5 against the Pistons
@@jasonbenedetti5499 except it was Shaq doing the heavy lifting and getting Robert Horry, Derek Fisher, and Rick Fox involved and making clutch plays while Kobe was either injured or being a glorified role player building houses with all those bricks. So you're not aware that he played out of position with OKC? They relegated him to an off-ball guy and to the second unit that's why his numbers were down last season... I love AC like everyone but he's not getting any younger, and continuing to be injury prone while being in the last year of his contract... Giddey might not be the defensive monster like AC is but he's a tall PG who is a walking triple-double guy if you position him right in to your system plus he's only 21 years old on a rookie contract! You lot talks about the first round picks that were offered to them as if they're UNPROTECTED picks... They're not and it might turn like the Blazers pick they had that never materialized to something they can use... Great move by both teams. OKC got a great role player that fits their team and the Bulls get a guy who will probably be talked about as a top PG in the NBA in a couple years. Giddey simply didnt fit OKC, he needs to be on a more traditional roster and coach.
Alex Caruso is 30, in a contract year and pretty injury prone for most of his career. Josh Giddey is 21, was viewed as a future All Star 2 seasons ago, dealt with pretty difficult personal circumstances this year and still averaged 12 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists in 25 min per game.
Thunder receive: best 3 and D player in the league. Bulls receive: 0 level scorer that's a traffic cone on defense with a thing for minors. Seems like a good trade.
Just cuz Rusty is hating so bad on him, I fully expect Giddey to start balling in a couple seasons. He's acting like he's a bum, and ignored his first 2 seasons. He's got potential. Rusty is just hurt at the moment, because regardless of any potential....this is a finessing.
@@msolomon1781 It's supposed to be ironic. Like Rusty hates this deal so much now, but there's definitely a chance that Giddey becomes a really good to great role player. He's only 21. If he does, it would be funny to see him grudgingly retract. Giddey has a lot of work to do, tho.
I wouldn't mind Giddey to have a resurgence and be able to realize his talent. In particular when it is true that the allegations against him were false and more or less an attempt to sue him for money by putting him in the wrong situation with someone posing as an adult with a fake ID. I don't know the details and he definitely needs to be smarter and a better man, but a redemption story would be great from a basketball perspective.
@@blackmanwithcomputer That's the thing, ignoring this last season where others on the team improved so much his position was more or less taken away and they kept playing him out of position, his first couple of seasons were pretty good for a young guard, he was the youngest player ever to get a triple double and got them fairly consistently, which counters the "He's not even that good at rebounding or assisting" line Rusty said. Even when they shut Shai down for the season, Giddey was still making them competitive. Is he a great player? No, did the Bulls screw up the trade, yes, but at 21 he's not the disaster he's being made out to be.

Idk man, I think y’all are being a little too hard on Giddey, as a player he’s still young and has the potential to get better, he has good vision, if he can get his shooting percentage to a respectable average and use his height on defense he could be a solid piece. Overall, at least the Bulls finally did something.
He’s not hating , he just feels that Tatum was more impactful Tatum did shoot better from theee and the free throw line, as well as being a much better playmaker
Raw fg% is terrible though. Even if we're only looking at the box score tatum averages more than brown and if you watch the games, you'd see that most of the extra passes and open shots celtics have is due to tatum's playmaking
Why would he change his opinion about something basketball related, just because the "world could be ending?" 😏 I swear y'all just say anything, in an attempt to sound sooooo deep! 🤦🏾♂️
Not a fan of your takes. Giddey is probably not going to be an allstar, but his numbers were trending up until her got into allegations. They took up a lot of his time and attention, and his numbers suffered. His 3p% has gone up every season as well. He is still getting up to speed like most guards have to. Could the Bulls have gotten more if they we're better negotiators? Probably... but it's a B- at worse, and if they got a 1st rounder with him it would be an A-
Lot's and lot's of ignorance here. Giddey's first two years in the league as a starter were better than Lonzo's offensively. He is 9 years younger than Alex and he could turn out to be a very good player. But since it's Donovan's Bulls, it's more likely to be another Justin Fields type screwup.
I think JJ is a fine commentator, he had a good career and does really well on his podcasting. However, making him a coach, out of nowhere? I think that is a bit much. He is generally someone that I see motivate a team well, but for basketball insight, plays and strategy, I think he still needs to rely on more experienced assistants more often than not. Not that he does not know how basketball is played, but on an NBA coaching level, where you have genius guys like Nurse or Spoelstra, that seems so much outside of his wheelhouse. Maybe I'm wrong, but it does seem like a stretch to put him in charge.

I really think if The Bulls give him the keys to the offense he will shine and be one of the most fun players to watch in the league. This was a good deal for both teams. Dude is still only 21. There will be multiple lottery picks in this years draft who are older than him and he has three years experience in the league.

“Locked in for 10 minutes and had a -20” is a crazy… but accurate statement😂
The fact that their stats were comparable and JB guarded Luka are Kyrie for 5 games is what gave him the nod in my eyes. Tatum had a really solid series for sure. And his ability to guard Dallas’ bigs was important to the Celtics wining for sure. But Jaylen Brown doing what he did to neutralize the head of the snake was very impressive to me.
W take
He was able to guard the bigs as the bigs barely got the ball near the rim when Tatum was on them. The times when they did pass it down there, he was punished for it, just like anyone else.
Not to mention, Tatum literally started jacking up shots to try to steal Brown spotlight. There was 2 different finals games where brown was having a great game and tatum was jacking up bricks and when tatum came out in the second half he started holding the ball hostage and forcing up shots when his team was already up 10 trying to pad his stats
That’s why his FG% was so bad in 4/5 games, because he was literally forcing horrible shots this to pad his own total and didn’t care if he had to go 11/29 as long as he got his 20+ points
That’s why Giddey is a bad player, you don’t want the ball constantly in the hands of a guy that can’t score
@@MrBubblecake I mean… Stockton, Rondo, Fisher, go on.
Also, he was the 5th option on offense. That’s why he asked to get traded.
I think it’s unfair to say JB was less important on defense
Especially when he was the main matchup for Luka
I wonder if this trade strikes a chord for Bulls fans….
For the foreseeable future, I’m not going to be able to hear “strike a chord” and not hear “a minooooorrrrr.” 😭😭

There is 100% potential in this guy and I can see him working well with the spacing of white/ayo/vuc/paw while filling the weakness of rebounding at the forward position.
jeez you are polite... that video was by Rusty the Clown...

I don't get the hate. Caruso is a great role player that maximizes on a playoff team. Giddey has way more upside as a starter and has the passing skills to run a complex offense.
You just don’t watch basketball if you think giddey was better offensively
Justin Fields was not that damn good
Any chance you’ll make a video on fixing the Milwaukee Bucks? I’d love to see you go over some potential scenarios for next season
JJ is brilliant? Guy has made some of the dumbest comments ever and is delusional over LeBron
Lakers didn’t hire him for his basketball takes. Lakers hired him because of his IQ and potential.
Maybe I'm wrong, but it does seem like a stretch to put him in charge.
he is a former NBA player, multi millionaire, has 3 jobs that he enjoys. What have you done in your life.
@@maxmeier532 Hey I like the guy, more power to him, but having him as a Laker's headcoach .. out of nowhere? That just doesn't make a whole lot of sense. At least not to me and a ton of other people.
I really hope he surprises me, but I am not expecting much of it.
Within 2-4 years Giddey will be a better player than Caruso. And most first round picks wont turn into a player as good as Giddey.
Also, 21 is about as early twenties as it gets.
Damn yall hate giddey😂😂😂
Giddy gonna be nice af has the primary ball handler he wasnt gonna reach his potential here in okc but if the Bulls go full rebuild he will
man do i love okc
Well Giddey is now officially on my fantasy draft board for next year already🤷♂️
