Speakers housed in a 1970 Marshall 4x12 played one at a time
Johan is a true 'gear whisperer.' It doesn't matter what amp, speaker, cab, guitar, pedal, etc. he touches. He makes them _all_ sound great!
Thanks my friend!
I bet they’d sound great mixed in a 2x12. The purpleback brings the mids, the crescendo brings a solid top and bottom.
My thought exactly. I’m in the market for a 2x12” cab and speakers…think I just decided on the speakers. ☺️
Pete's SG into a Hiwatt is probably my favourite example of guitar tone.
Very interesting. I love the sound of both, the pre purple back however sounds incredible. Great playing and demo.
Thanks! Glad to hear it!
That purple back sounds amazing. It has a bark in the mids that sounds great.
Thanks glad to hear it, I love it too
Excellent demo again Johan! To my ears, both speakers sound awesome in their own ways. But they really do define The Who and Floyd tones.
Thanks man, glad to hear it!
They sound distinctly different, I think I prefer the Crescendo. That Telecaster always makes me smile!
Thanks man, glad to hear it!
You surf with the best tone God's. I am always amazed by what you find.
Thanks man, glad to hear that!
That pre purple sounds very nasal and closed. No chime or definition. The crescendo sounds just amazing. Like US/UK hybrid.
Thanks Aaron
Hey Johan, thanks so much for doing this comparison! This really helped me understand and hear the differences between these two wonderful speakers. I haven't found much on UA-cam comparing Fane models. I really love the midrange beauty of the Crescendos. Thank you!
Loved the Crescendo! Really dynamic with the Tele. Thanks Johan!
Thanks Eddie! Glad to hear it
Been following johan for a few years and this dude has the best vibrato on UA-cam.
Great demo as always!
Thanks, glad to hear it!
The First Speaker Sings Beautifully and you really know how to use Feedback.
Johan! what band you in? I Must see you play on stage!
Those purple backs seem to have a very pleasing clean yet driving tone.
It just sounds good to me. Love your riffage as always. God bless and rock on 🎸😎👍
Thanks my friend! Rock on!
Just bought a pair of Fane 10/70 10 inch Speakers. Have you any experience with these? I was hoping for Chimey High's which Celestion don't have. Have I made fhe right purchase?
Love your Videos Johan! Stay Young and Keep Rockin!
Cheers

Really great tone in both cases. I find myself gravitating to the pre-purple back.
Thanks! Glad to hear it
Johan, can you make a comparison between Fane and Celestion speakers with that DR103, using clean tones too? I'm about to get an amp Hiwatt like but I got only a Creamback 75 to use, so this comparison would be really helpful for me, just to have an ideia on what I'm going to deal here... We don't have any Fane speakers around where I live, so I can't do this myself.
In anyway, thank you very much!
Hi! I’ll keep it in mind
@@JohanSegebornMany thanks!!
Love when you Play that Telecaster!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks, glad you like it!
That first clip clean through the purple back was great but the Crescendo took over once the overdrive kicked in
Thanks!
The pre-purple backs were my favorite.
Reeves Amplification sells a new purple back replica (low cost too) that me & my best friend think are basically Eminence Super V speakers. Those Super V's were a George Lynch signature speaker and sound fantastic with my Marshall & my buddy's Randall RM100
George has a Hiwatt cab that he uses for his rhythm work. The Randall signature cabinet with the Super V speakers looks identical to that old Hiwatt of his in construction.
Thanks Jeff
I’m curious to hear a Hiwatt with purple backs vs greenbacks! Love all the recent hiwatt content!
Thanks man! Glad to hear it!
Hi Johan, on the pre- purple back Fane, do you think that this what the sound city cabs had in them?
Hi, I found sound city cabs with similar fanes
So finally, Johan , you arrived at my choice of speaker chassis - FANE. I have a vast collection of these marvellous speaker chassis from the 60s and 70s - they ALWAYS WIN. As soon as I fire up my 1976 JMP (heavily modded) on a full stack stuffed with those Fanes ...it's B-day.
I have a great sounding fane 12287 50 watt 16 Ohm speaker branded Sound City. I have it loaded into a Marshall 1933 which I drive with a Lead 12 head. If anyone can link me to more info on this speaker I would really appreciate it. Only found vague stuff so far on the internet.
Were you matching the impedance of the speakers to the amp? An incorrect impedance match can affect volume and tone. I preferred the Purple Back, it sounded more "open" to me.
Yeah of course
Well! I sure am glad that I am trying to match the sound in my head, rather than some genius' Smash Hit from back in the day. What is hard is when the tone is coming from a 25 Watt transducer and I have to stack 8 or 9 of them up to match the impedance and power with the amplifier that I have to use. I am going to check out some local cabinet shops and see about getting some experimental baffles made
Hello Johan, I own a Hiwatt Custom 50 full stack (2 SE 4121 cabinets rated 50w) with 8 122141 (22w rated) fane speakers. Should you ever need to trace these rare birds for a fane speakers comparison video, do not hesitate, I’d be happy to be of assistance. Best.
The purple back is mellower but I bet it would be killer for slide guitar. The crescendo is more harmonically alive
Thank you Johan. Cheers from Hawaii. Darrell
Crescendo one sounds superb with that tele.
Thanks, glad to hear it!
They sound superb with Stratocaster too ! Have 4 of them with my ‘74 DR103, what a great Tone!!
Aloha Johan! You hear the difference even thru a cellphone.
Aloha Victor
Which Celestion would this be similar to?
It would be interesting to hear what a Hiwatt with alnico JBLs, altec 417s, and EV12M sounds like.
Yeah we’ll definitely get to that too!
Hi Johan ,you should check out the Rawson Sparfield Starfinder speakers . They do a crescendo replica as well as a starfinder cabinet. Apparently the original company made cabs for WEM , Selmer etc back in the day
Yeah they would be interesting to compare to the originals
If there was a modern close equivalent to the Crescendo I would buy some. That's a good sound.
Thanks! I think there is a reissue called Rawdon Sparfield
The FANE CRESCENDO are Amazing for Kick ASS rock. The purple ones have that sort of Punk 😁🤘
The Fane is much DARKER than the Crescendo! Both good in their own ways but I LIKED the Crescendo for its top end sparkle & alm hi-fi sheen! Rockin' sounds Joh! \m/
Thanks man!
@@JohanSegeborn Cheers bro! Rock on!
yeah the pre purple back is THE one. wonderful tone.
Thanks man! Cheers

it has what I 'think' is a pulsonic cone, it is stamped 102 006.
To my ears (which aren't amazing) it sounds like the crescendo if that helps.
I'll take the crescendos 😂 really shows the importance of the speakers in a rig though.
the purple back sounds more midrange focused but complity diffrent from a celestion g12m greenback
Thanks, yeah it would be interesting to compare it to a greenback
You should show us how to get a good Ramones tone on the Marshall Plexi!
Cool! I’ll look into that!
Purple Back for the win!
The pre purple one sounded great for rhythm and riffing!
The purple better for leads and pinch harmonics!
Thanks Mohamed!
Please check out led zeppelin live in releight 1970 and tell me what a tone page have . His best tone
Cool do you have a link?
This probably a brutal Jimmy Page tone from live tour in 1970, 1971 . He nevwr after sound so overdriven live. Probabky RAH is a Hi watt with crescendo. What you think?
Previously I’ve been told he used Marshall model no 1982 cabs with T1281 greenbacks with his Hiwatt
Crescendo is the best
