Retired June 30th at 58 with a networth of $2.3 million. Dividends+interest exceeds the take home pay at my job. I don't need my old salary because I am no longer maxing out the 401k and HSA and my mortgage is paid off. Next: lots of reading, some writing, travel, gym, a fun online venture. And climbing Mt Everest.. Windows version : )

Good for you! I did 51 with $1.3. Trying to stay at or below the 4% rule. Spent six months in South America so far, this year. Just bought land to build a modern dream home in wine country for 1/4 of what I sold my US house for. Enjoy it all!

My husband and I have moved 6 times in 12 years - buying and Selling homes. People really don’t understand us. That we aren’t attached to a house, but see the family as “home”. I Think some even pity our children, even though we stayed in a radius of 20 km 😄

We just returned from our first trip to Lisbon and Cascais just a couple of days ago. While this was part of a multiple country trip which included several cities Spain and Morocco, Portugal is now atop the list of our potential expat destinations as we felt a much stronger than anticipated connection with this country.
Been in Portugal for a year --- I'm been with you for two years. You are one of the reasons I came to Portugal. I'm in Coimbra, Portugal and I love it. I'm from the Bay Area also. Watch to see why you are leaving Portugal. Happy to know you are not leaving. The Divide States is getting bad. The last time I was in Oakland, California they broke my window and stole my computer. The homeless are everywhere and crime is everyday. I feel so safe here and I have no fear.
I am from Oakland as well and planning my move to Portugal next year to either Porto or Lisbon. I visited Portugal last year or 3 weeks scouring places to live: Lisbon, Tavira, Evora, Coimbra and Porto taking the public bus and rail systems. I loved the University of Coimbra. So beautiful. I LOVE Portugal and cannot wait to move. My car was just broken into again (4th time😒) and my house 3 times. It's crazy how much the homeless issue has gotten especially since COVID-19 happened. How do you enjoy Portugal overall?

You all have spoken highly of REITs, they’re currently getting crushed in the market. Perhaps do a video of where you stand on REITs and the current challenges with commercial real estate. Thanks!
Not sure where you are seeing information, but there are many at least US based REITs that are yielding well over 15% in dividends annually. Of course you'll have to pay regular ordinary income taxes on these type of dividends regardless of where you live on the planet since it's technically US sourced income.

With the girls getting older, I can't blame you for moving back to Lisbon! Lisbon stole our hearts on our first visit. We are targeting a move to the Saldanha neighborhood after spending 2 weeks in that area. We know the location will come with a cost, but we are willing to position ourselves for it and look for a great investment! I have a feeling you guys moved close to that area. It is completely an amazing location! Cheers to one day being walking distance neighbors in the future. 😊 Keep inspiring us to live our dreams...even as they evolve.

Great strategy, and congrats! We only got to do this once. Wife not built for that strategy. Teamwork makes the dream work! We managed to retire early though.
Four key words: “sweat equity” and “emotional detachment” ! Our big mistakes here: overpaid for our home because we fell in love with it and appointing professional builders to undertake the renovations.😮

I’m here in Portugal and USD is weak to the Euro, loosing 13% on the dollar through converting. Taxes is 23%. Interested in how y’all get around the loss?
