They were imitating a photograph or painting which is why no one is moving except Kevin. Since Scott is a hand-singer, you can see him white knuckling the chair he’s holding on to!
I didn't know that Karen, thank you. I have now watched it another 3 times to watch Scott 'white knuckling' ha ha ha. Makes sense of the frame in the bottom corner too :)
Notice that Kevin was keeping the sound effects and beats going while simultaneously playing different rhythms on the cello. It's like playing two instruments and two songs at the same time. I have no idea how the man can split his brain power like that.
Always love your reactions. As you say Pentatonix are masters of short breaks and build ups. Your comments about "Scott the vampire" and "hit you in the back of the head with a frozen trout" had me in tears ;) Keep it up
Love, love, your reaction about music making you feel alive! I’ve always felt that way about music and Pentatonix gets to me like no other group I’ve ever heard!
You may also like their cover of ‘dancing on my own’. They did it after Avi left but before Matt joined. Kevin plays his Cello for all the bass parts. They come to a verse that is all cello, and you realize the sound is Avi’s absence.
One of my favorites. The interlude in the middle where it goes from solo to duet to trio to quartet building to the final crescendo with Kirstie is genius. Gives me chills every time.
This is one of my favorite covers they do. If you want simply sublime, their original Run to You will kill you with all the frozen trout in the world. True story.
Thank you for this! It's one of my favorites too. The emotion in this one and on Kirsten's face gets me every time. And you're right: they're masters of dynamics.
Kirstin's vocal in this is BEAUTIFUL!!! This song is a masterpiece that I've probably listened to a hundred times and still get goosebumps when I hear it! I 've done been smacked in the head by that trout a few times! lol
The look of this was supposed to be like an old painting, so the members were instructed to move as little as possible. Scott loves to sing with his hands, so he was supposedly holding on to the back of the chairs in front of him with all of his might in order to keep from moving his hands!
Found you by random because you did a PTX reaction ("Love Again) and instantly subscribed. You're fire, man, and I appreciate your reactions because you're so knowledgeable. It's one thing to have a "fan reaction" - which is enjoyable, of course - but it's an entirely different animal when you're able to assess a video not only for the group and the music, but for the arrangement, the lighting, the editing, the layering... As a trained musician of 40+ years, I automatically see and hear multiple things when I watch a video for the first time (it's automatic. There are times I wish I could turn it off.), and it's cool to see the reaction of someone else who pays attention to all the layers of something that, on the outside, seems like such a simple thing. :)
I understand the wishing to turn your 'thing' off. I write fiction, which can spoil reading. I now pounce on grammatical errors and shake myself out of my immersion into a story.
@@joosyjulie As someone with a B.A. in English, I find that's something that has followed me mercilessly (finding grammatical errors, proofreading calamities, and whole sections where I wonder if the editor just wandered off and forgot to come back) when reading. It can definitely take me out of whatever I'm reading temporarily. Let me know if you find a cure for our particular, if eccentric, condition. 😁
There is definitely something about this group that really drives emotions in people like no other group I have every heard. They have either figured out how to emotionally manipulate their audience purposefully and become experts at it or they are just not human. They are amazing.
Trust me when I tell you that us Pentaholics know how the music hits you b/c it hits us the same way. I don't think I've ever heard any other singer/band be able to illicit so much feeling and emotion in every song they cover; they are definitely blessed with their talent! And totally agree that Scott's voice is beyond phenomenal! Normally when you see vids of him he's always moving his hands and his body b/c he's feeling the emotion and when I saw this vid, I couldn't believe he actually just stood there but I understand it would've taken away from the 'setting' of the song. However, when I did a meet and greet, I did ask him if they told him to hold on to the chair and he was like, "no, I don't think so"! lol
I’ve been waiting for you to finally react to this one! I think this might be my very favorite PTX song. I could literally lie on the floor and let this song wash over me. Also, I agree with you about Scott. I adore each member of this group, but Scott’s voice is my favorite. It’s smooth yet textured, versatile yet distinct. And his range is insane. 🎵💙
This has been my favorite song of theirs since the day I discovered it years ago. The sheer beauty and depth of their harmonies makes my heart dance. I like to call it aural ambrosia.
To me, the look of this video is how stunned you feel when you have suffered the loss of someone, who willing walked out of your heart! You can see the pain in their faces, hear it in their voices as it tears the pain form your heart!
They cause emotions unknown in my mind and heart! I get tears. Avi's higher register is one thing that stood out to me. I was writing my comment about emotions and the trout hit me in the head, too. 🤣🤣🤣
Boy, are you on top of your game today! Another fantastic analysis of this song and its power. The leads and the harmonies are so rich and so inventive, it lifts the whole song up and above the original imo. Every word you said was exactly the right ones to say what you were feeling.
Always love your PTX reactions! You're fully capable of articulating the intense emotions they evoke with their music. I speculate that the frozen trout comment here is simply your next-level reference to being slapped with a wet fish/trout, which would be a 'striking' escalation, indeed! Looking forward to catching up on more of your excellent reactions. :-)
I heard this song for the first time about 6 weeks ago and loved it. I played it over and over again. I am so glad you are reacting to it. Yes, I do feel like I am singing the song and like I can't breathe. The best feeling.
Yes! It’s a beautiful song and another amazing cover. I really like their choice of soloist for each part, it perfection, and yes, finesse. I feel like they are always at the service of the song. They are giving us an earful as usual. Great reaction. Thanks. 🤗 Since you like Scott so much, you have to react to to “Lose us” a duet with Rozzi, a great song that really displays his range. The video is beautiful as well.
💖 I LOVE how much you LOVE PENTATONIX!!. PLEASE PLEASE react to Lose Us by Rozzi ft. Scott Hoying (from PTX). Rozzi (Raw-zee) is a PHENOMENAL singer and very close friend of Scott. Scott's falsetto will BLOW YOU AWAY!!!😅👍
I forgot, as I usually do, their cover of shallow is shot in the same way. Avi also has something called overtone which means he can sing two notes at 1 time. I have no idea how this is done or when he's doing it, I just know that he can do it.
Whenever Kevin plays the cello in a PTX track, it's always to contribute an additional voice to the mix and never simply as a background instrumental accompaniment.
So happy you did this one. One of my favs by them. Imagine the amount of creativity stacking chords and melodies in new ways but still making the song recognizable. Crazy talent
Funny how you say you can’t find the words but you actually describe exactly how I feel better than anyone else I’ve ever heard! You certainly have a way with words. Where are you taking me to next?
Had me in tears was so very beautiful there are outstanding ..just so incredible ..love this song . This was divine . .absolutely love your reaction thanks so much love an god bless x
Another comment.....I found reaction videos by watching a video by a guy who was researching the best Baritones in the world. He found Scott, absolutely one of the best Baritone in the World!
Edward Cullen role played by Robert Pattinson, He was awesome in that movie. And you're right strikingly similar. Many bands, groups have asked PTX to write arrangements of this song for them. They do such an awesome job! Thank you.
Funny looking vampire that glistens in the sun cracked me up, you are hilarious 😂😂😂 . This cover by them is just stunning and just so emotional. I must have listened to it several times a day for months. Now I only play it once a day lol. It just gives me goosebumps every single time. In my top 5 by them. You have such a way with words. Thanks for another great reaction. 😊
His name is Edward Cullen. I don't know if you noticed but Kevin is also beatboxing while playing the cello. He calls it cello boxing and it is now being taught. They found Kevin after a video of him playing the cello and beatboxing went viral. Check out Kevin's channel Titled KO And his cover of Marion hills, I think that's the right name, down. Kevin also plays the piano and I think The saxophone. I know it's 1 other instrument. He also speaks fluent mandarin. Before he join Pentatonix he graduated from Yale Premed. It's nice to get an insight Into their personalities. My favorite is when they play the game when 1 person fills his mouth with water and the other 1 tries to get them to laugh and spit it out.
This was the very 1st Pentatonix video I saw many years ago. I've been a Pentaholic ever since. Their covers are always so much better than the originals. And their original music is phenomenal. Their 2nd album of all original songs is coming out in a couple weeks.
Your reactions are awesome. You hear and explain the aspects of this performance and others by PTX that I hear and love but am not clear why it has the effect it does until you describe it
I love your PTX reactions 🥰 Must add their Shallow cover to your list as well - Kevin also plays the Cello in that one 🇨🇦 P.S. Edward Cullen from Twilight
Say Something... which is why I watch Fable... he says something all the time. PTX is unreal. There are a lot of great vocalists, and songs, but nobody like PTX.

i love watching scott struggle to stay still in this video, it cracks me up! i’m the same way, though. i move way too much when i sing.

He calls it celloboxing
I imagine its a similar conditioning that great pianists go through to coordinate their left and right hands. He is insanely talented and dedicated.

Pentatonix make getting hit in the back of the head with a frozen trout so enjoyable!! Lol. Thanks for another amazing reaction.
They are the masters at using silence as a note! 💖
Best description Emotion is what keeps me coming back 👩❤️👨
One of my favorites. The interlude in the middle where it goes from solo to duet to trio to quartet building to the final crescendo with Kirstie is genius. Gives me chills every time.
"The vampire that glistens in the sun" is so spot on. 😂😂😂
Oh, man, they are amazing.
And that cello... just killed me
But you... seriously, the frozen trout again?🤣
Scott is my favorite too! 🔥
I could listen to him all day long! 😍
Love, love, how much you can express the emotions of their songs!!!!
One of their very best. So much emotion contrasted with so much control. Amazing.
Kirstin's vocal in this is BEAUTIFUL!!! This song is a masterpiece that I've probably listened to a hundred times and still get goosebumps when I hear it!
I 've done been smacked in the head by that trout a few times! lol
Kevin on the cello is incredible and Avi's voice sounding like a bass being played at the beginning is insane too. Such power in the vocals.
The look of this was supposed to be like an old painting, so the members were instructed to move as little as possible. Scott loves to sing with his hands, so he was supposedly holding on to the back of the chairs in front of him with all of his might in order to keep from moving his hands!
Scott Hoying - ‘I Should Tell Ya Momma On You’
You’re welcome 😁

Absolutely!
I think both. They have all done some acting so I think they feel the song so much, they can convey that in the song

Id like to see your reaction to their cover of Gold. Done live, them all sitting around on a couch, and Mitch does his magic. One of my favs. Thanks.
Agreed that is one of the best casual settings they've done. Also Cracked cover was great too.

Kevin the one man percussion band playing cello and beat boxing the drums at the same time...cello-boxing the talent of this man.
♥️🙌🏻♥️
You want to see your boy Scott blow your mind? You should check out his solo vid ‘I Should Tell Ya Momma On You’. His range is so impressive🙊🙊
I came to the comment section to suggest this lol 💓💓💓

My all time favourite PTX duet - Avi singing double bass lines with Beyoncé (Kevin’s cello). It’s genuine perfection.
