7:02 not necessarily true, its just more expensive of an option on the og ally because it has an XG mobile port instead. So technically you can use an egpu with it, but the options are limited and more expensive (and also probably won't be supported much going forward).
I love the versatility of the Ally X. Long battery life on the go and great performance in 30w turbo mode when plugged in. It's the gaming handheld of the year!
I have an Ally X with a 4tb internal storage. I also have a sonnet breakaway egpu enclosure with a PNY 4060ti 16gb for desktop use. I also have an ASUS ZenScreen and an anker 87W portable charger and a dock. so I can use it as a psuedo-laptop. with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse. This made my Ally X a 3 in 1, desktop, psuedo-laptop and gaming handheld.
How loud are the buttons and sticks? And for that matter, the fans when run on power saving mode? I'm a night owl and my wife goes to sleep early so I'm looking for something I could play in bed for an hour or two without waking her.
asus does indeed make and sell a egpu for the older original allys the issue was it used a proprietary connector which ran faster then thunderbolt 4 actually but it limited yoou to only asus egpu solution which was actually fine really in reality because it was a good unit but people still complained because i guess they wanted the choice. There are other asus products that used the same proprietary connector mainly the z13 flow tablet and g13 laptop. It was called the xg mobile unit by the way.
also i take issue with calling the ally x the best, its one of the best but i feel there are others that might be better for some folds for instance there are other handhelds that come in a 64gb and 32gb ram options and better apus like the apus with the newer 890m igpu which allegedly smokes the 780m in the ally x and other handhelds. But that is a really recent development theres currently only 1 or 2 handhelds with the new apu.
I have mine with half and half windows 11 and Linux bazzite. I use windows for some games that don't run on Linux. And I use Linux for mainly emulation . Emudeck is amazing. I also run gamepass on windows . So it's best of both worlds. Things to remember Disable bit locker as soon as you get it. Update windows Update my Asus drivers Update armoury crate Disable CPU turbo Cpu integrity Uninstall bloat ware Cut the rubbish on your taskbar Buy a dock with usb ethernet It's a nice system Also video out will be no good for 4k resolution video out. It will cut your FPS in half . Stick with 1080

Only complaint is i wish it had 32 GB instead of 24 but ill probably buy one of the chips and take it to a place where they can solder it for electronics.
You wrong, ally x is the standard and completed version of rog ally. Rog ally with half of the x battery and SD card slot issue is a prototype version of rog ally x. Seriously 40 wh battery for gaming in this day ??? What you play tetris ? COD need large capacity battery. 80 wh battery supposed to be the standard for every handheld gaming. You don't want to bring external power bank everywhere in your house 😂
@dopamine.loop69 I returned it because I already had the legion go and steam deck. I kinda expected better performance with the extra ram. But it was solid. My unit was defective even after I replaced the ssd it was faulting on me. But my brother's worked great. If anything the ally x does gears 4, 5 better and cod 6 runs better on the ally x. I played ffxiv, cod, fortnite,dynasty warrior 9.
It’s replacing the console in the future. The power is getting there. The rog x is more powerful then a ps4 like 3 times more. Sony will go handheld/homeconsole aka switch like.
@ yeah. Consoles are around the $500-700 and so for that they can make a nice powerful handheld these days. The ps3 can run on a raspberry pi 5 @$80 now.
@Hybrid225 I mean it is a PC handheld so I would expect it to have some level of decency over most PC builds at this price. I just don't see this being the ultimate replacement for a full blown desktop, especially ones with a 5090 and 9800X3D for example..

Got it for myself a few weeks ago it died on me got it again last week & it didn't charge right out of the box
You should install bazzite just like steamOS and more stable than windows

I just bought myself a rog Ally x because there was a great sale, and im not patient enough to wait for the upcoming handheld pcs 😅

No, it charges at 90w since that's what the cable can output 😊

3 hours 2 hours max settings is what I use my gaming laptop I think that’s enough on the go lol

Returned mine. I'm happy with the lenovo legion go and steam deck oled. Rog ally x does have the best d pad for fighting games tho.
