It is still a mystery how a man who started learning music only in his mid 20s, only after coming to Chennai created these kind of compositions. Ilaiyaraaja is a mystery. You mentioned a beautiful portion, that his compositions challenged the status quo of the music scene here and wanted to break its shackles. This is revolutionary. Not just musically, but also socially. In a society, where someone like Ilaiyaraaja would have been denied the knowledge of Music becomes an undeniable force through his sheer genius; showing a big middle finger to the "system" and its boundaries; and the limitations of the system to music; yet showing the same "system" that he can operate well within it, and also outside of it. Raja is a true musical revolutionary. He's not just a composer par excellence, but also one of the greatest social revolutionaries. On the same level of Sri Ramanujar, taking the mantra to the masses. What makes it a mystery is, no one knows if he did it intentionally, or was it all done by the Divine through Raja.
Our Maestro is a born genious, in my view he studied the music just to validate and formalise his wisdom which he already has in his DNA. Also, his birth place was well known for Ancient Tamil music masters during the Pandiya dynasty's era. After the vijaya nagara dynasty's invasion, traditional Tamil music took a different form as Carnatic music which was modified to suit Telugu language as It was the official language of the Vijaya nagara dynasty. Now, our Isaignani bringing back all the forbidden treasures and shares with us, a true REVOLUTIONIST.

Sir, your rendition of Raja sir's musical work is really excellent. Kudos to you sir for eulogyzing his unique music so brilliantly .Raja sir still remains an invincible composer whose work can never be paralleled with and no doubt he had been ruling the roost of film industry for more than four decades indefatigably. It wouldn't be an exaggeration if I say it may take another half century to discuss his uniqueness and nuances of his music.

உங்கள் காணொலிக்கு பின்பு எந்த ஒரு குறிப்பும் இல்லாமல் வாசித்து பார்த்தேன். 100% இல்லை என்றாலும் 90% அளவிற்காவது "மாலையில் யாரோ", " வராது வந்த நாயகன்", " சிறு பொன்மணி அசையும்" போன்ற சில பாடல்களை வாசிக்க முடிந்தது. மகிழ்ச்சி!!

You are absolutely right. Before Raja we had outstanding melodies coming out. However, such creative outburst of ragas for different moods settings and scenarios were definitely not known. How he infused poly phonic notes so brilliantly in his compositions were lessons for even music connoisseur. And surely they are firsts in Tamil film as well as Indian film music.
This synergy of different music forms led people of those times to an entirely different fantasy world which was surreal that they were unable to explain. They simply fell madly in love.
Unfortunately patents are not granted for uniqueness of music forms or experiences. Else Raja sir may have had several hundred patents by now.

In the same Suddha Dhanyasi ragam our Maestro composed Andharangam yavume song in the movie Ayiram nilave va. He used the same tune in a Telugu movie (Abinandhana) as a duet sung by SPB and S. Janaki, such a mesmerizing song.....

ஐயா, என்னமோ சொல்றீங்க, ஆனா அது என்னன்னு தான் புரியல ( நான் இசை நுணுக்கங்களை பற்றிய என் அறிவைச் சொல்கிறேன்) இளையராஜாவை புகழ்கிறதை கேட்பதே எனக்கு தனி இசை.in other words I am a layman as far as mucic concerned but I enjoy இளையராஜா forever. இன்றும், "ஏதோ நினைவுகள் மனதிலே மலருதே" பாடல் எங்கு ஒலித்தாலும் முழு பாடலும் கேட்டு விட்டு தான் நகர்வேன்
தான் ஆன்மாவுக்குள் உணர்ந்ததை மொழி வாயிலாகப் பகிர்ந்து கொள்வது என்பது அத்தனை எளிதல்ல. அநாயசமாக இதை சாதித்து வருகிறீர்கள் . ஞானியின் பாடல்களைக் கேட்பதற்கு இணையான பரவசத்தை உங்கள் ரசனைமொழி தருகிறது என்றாலது மிகையல்ல. தொடருங்கள்.....தொடர்கிறோம்.
