- I'm Tired of Ugly Futuristic Car Designs...Ohhhh, look how futuristic this is, I tried less, deleted a lot of features, then locked it behind a paywall. Yeah so futuristic. Kiss my effing butt. The Future of Cars…is to go back. Whether it’s Neo-Classic Motorcycles, Remastered Video Games, or Retro Styling, the market has shown time and time again, some of the best appealing products, have already existed and simply need an update in hardware, polish, and repackaged in a manner where the new generation can appreciate it.
Make cars still look like cars. I’m sick of this trend to make the dumbest looking oversized kitchen appliance. You know things are bad when Hyundai of all companies, has got it going. I hate that if you lower an Ioniq, it actually looks pretty cool and if they made a smaller hatchback version, it’d sell like hotcakes. The N-Vision is stunning, passionate, and brings some soul, even if masquerading, like I said. Whisk me away, ease me into the upcoming pain. If we’re going electric, delude me. Delude the already schizophrenic me, more than my abilify can drown, while dopamine can still arrive.

I love the designs of the 1960s because they just let the designers go wild with intricate and unique designs. Now the designers are told to remove as many details as possible and pass it off by saying “but it’s futuristic”.
I think regulations are partly to blame. "pedestrian safety" and all this nonsense
The problem is the beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I find intricate ugly (to my personal experience), and simplicity (especially in terms of the surface shape, but also minimizing the number of colors) to be the apex of beauty. If I find modern stereotyped cars rather ugly due to being overcomplicated, is my idea of what looks good less legitimate than yours?
@@unkarsthug4429 im all for the minimalist design philosophy, unfortunately, most tech companies dont see the spirit behind the art and just think "hmmm, less detail = cheaper production cost" and leave it there instead of creating something people can at least stand to look at on a daily basis
Just look at Peugeot and Citroën cars. They’re so far away from minimalism. I would argue that they have too many lines.

the Ather 450X is a scooter that has that futuristic kinda sound to it but it's only in india
I mean, it's certainly not illegal - the government only requires that there be a sound to warn pedestrians, they never specify WHAT sound.
The hard part would be designing the sound and linking it to the car's power output.

I hate that this is the reality we live in, but many manufacturers are engineering cabin sound in their EVs. BMW has this weird techno hum. Pretty sure Hummer does as well.
If you can't already, I'm almost certain someone will let you load in your own cabin noise. Yes, it'd be better if everyone *else* heard the eldritch screech of your passing, but it's pretty good consolation that you will very likely be able to hear it in the not-too-distant future.

Current regulations wouldn't allow it, even with updates technology. The car industry is being regulated into the ground and is currently on life support.

Diesel’s gas etc. all are being downsized to small copy-paste turbo 4 cylinder engines and diesel’s are being choked up with emissions systems leading to massive engine problems. It’s all making cars less fun to drive nowadays, becoming increasingly unreliable and lack personality.
@@charlesrodriguez7984 I know. There's a few new vehicles I'd actually be interested in if the engines weren't garbage.
A big personal irritation for me is that a lot of turbo 4 bangers run quite hot and as a result have coolant channels cut between the cylinders which significantly weakens the head gasket. Most are also direct injection, which means massive carbon buildup on top of the valves. Basically, they could blow at any moment after 100k miles.
Finally someone speaks out about this. Oversimplified/minimalist or whatever they call it now designs are absolutely awful in my opinion. At least the way they are implemented right now in the car industry and beyond as well
Yeah it sucks in almost every industry ngl. Since it's actually LESS SIMPLE when something goes wrong. The lack of lines, angles, exposed bolts, etc. Make them a nightmare to take apart. Like those overly simplistic trailer trucks, tiny homes, or even Gaming Computers are way more annoying to maintain/expensive to deal with than a normal "Conventional" design.

Another infuriating thing is making EV's for the purpose of "saving the enviorment because they are more energy-efficient" and then stuffing them full of "features" that drain the battery.
Thank you, I’ve had these thoughts and discussed it with my Dad. It would so much easier to transition to renewable or alternative fuel sources if the cars didn’t look like a toasters

tbh we are actually getting close to simulating car engine sounds properly, I know some guy managed to do it, and an ev bike company got in contact with him about it. I'd say it'd be a nice addition to some EVs, its like how the keyboard layout is still the exact same as old typewriters.

16 here feeling the same, and this surely can’t just be a minority thing cuz the artists who made the almost retro-futuristic designs in cbrpunk 2077 that I especially love clearly had a similar line of thought , good to know that people that are into cars do in fact have a taste & are not absentmindedly following along with whatever their favorite brand releases.

I've been living vintage lifestyle since 1997. Apartment architecture, furniture, clothes... They just had a sense for style and concept in every area of culture. Even back in the 80s, but it went downhill since the 90s.

i absolutely agree with you dude, im so sick of car manufacturers trying to make cars look other worldy, but atleast DeLorean is trying to keep the style of cars alive, cant wait till the electric DeLorean makes its way to SA.
This is why I love the cars that Karma makes. they have futuristic technology but they still have absolutely stunning looks. you should definitely check them out if you havent heard of or seen them already

Also Thank you! This is literally my biggest gripe with vehicles. There’s a reason why so many people, like myself, Resto-mod vehicles, as well as have an appreciation for new but actual car designs. Sometimes certain designs, and characteristics come along and are timeless. I appreciate all car companies that have brought back retro designs but tastefully modernized them. Lately I’ve had a deep appreciation for Toyota/Lexus, their cars are interesting and cool, they get it.
I haven't hear someone talk so passionately about car designs and the occasional rhymes made it even better. Bravo to you

At least the hovercars in Futurama, which take place in the 31st century, actually look like cars from the 50s or 60s as opposed to bulky, glorified home and kitchen appliances. And not one of them is an EV!

I agree wholeheartedly although the thing is something tell’s me to keep an eye out in the future for something big… I have his feeling sometime in 20-50 years time a company won’t give a F and try to bring back the “old school” stuff in a big way.
Yeah, I havent really been fussed on cars until the last year or so simply from not needing 1, but now I am looking more and more into it I just dont see why so many seem to want to abandon the more classical looks beyond knowing its cost saving for profit margins (paint choices, shape, no buttons only a touch screen saving money).
I can 100% understand how companies like Morgan and Caterham here are still going strong and have even gotten new competition from others like Pembleton and a bunch of other small startups taking inspiration from old designs or outright buying and renovating them for the modern day/EV market like the Morris JE Van, Citron 2CV in electric, etc.
I hope Hyundai inspires other manufacturers to do what theyre doing, they have nailed the futuristic look

Most of those futuristic "new" cars you showed reminded me of the Silencerz from Acceleracers.
But even those had the decency to add purple. I HATE that all new cars have gone from actually looking different from each other to just all blending in together because they're all black, gray and white. You used to be able to tell that someone was driving an Impreza just by seeing it in the line at a red light from just it's colour. Now you can't even tell which Mini-van is different from the others.
This is why I wanna be a local jeepney builder in my country where I dont have my designes supressed by corpprate trends and do what it is that me and my fellow folk find apealing.

i agree with most of what you said. the most concept cars are getting too much “fUtuRIsTiC” indeed. some concepts are just gonna end up on some meme goofy ahh car lists. they look like bull💩. some i think do look cool, but i sure hope we keep car design how it should be, for instance: the Mclaren 750S. All the lines, it’s just so magnificent. good video as always, keep up the good work bro!

Even though this is completely off topic.. it's the same with architecture and design of not just cars. I'm tired of people making barebone glass buildings that look like boxes or curvy shapes with no soul. It's sad how especially as someone from Vegas for example, we used to have resorts full of theme and soul. And now the new ones are stripping all that away. You can still add a ton of new technology but it's sad that everything is turning so bland.
We need more airflow in the age of high voltage batteries and systems in EV with high temps. I'd love to see air-through designs.

I like futuristic designs, Like the Challenger EV, It’s when They take it too far when it hurts, So in short, I completely agree with this
What the people want is a style that is original and beautiful and elegant and fast looking...old yet new...retro yet modern... and not have such a complicated interior with all the buttons and knobs and touch screens...make it simple and easy and clean..yet in a complex way...and have a just comfortable intererior and not have such a large vehicle...we like small and compact look but big and comfy on the inside
I honestly don't think the combustion ever will truly die out in racing maybe on the highest levels it wont be present but there will people who aren't racing to win trophies but just for the experience of going fast with loud engines and banging gears.

I find 80’s cars especially Japanese ones unironically to look simply more futuristic than most modern Cars.
They have this nice level of minimalism while still preserving nice shapes and looking intricate with lines and color.
They aren’t just boring boxes like the Cybertruck.
It’s a perfect amount of angular and straight edges combined with nice material and color combinations from wooden interiors and that nice range of grayish colors and standard spectral colors.
Glad somebody spoke about this, also the rhymes are awesome.

Noticed how even exotics dont even feel "exotic" anymore? A old Ferrari or Porsche instantly raises attention, but it feels like modern exotics just "blend in".

One word: Stellantis. They own Peugeot, Citroën, Fiat, Dodge, Alfa Romeo, DS and Opel. Their car designs are fire! Anything but boring. The Citroën C5X looks like a menacing alien. The Peugeot 208 is the hottest hatch.
Perfect excamples are the Bmw M2 Tribute, Hyundai N vision cars, Nissan 400Z and Honda E. More car manufacturers need to follow these foot steps

All I have to say, Terzo Millennio, That car genuinely looks like a super car and isn't afraid to be aggressive and complex, if only Lamborghini actually decided to make it (albiet without the regenerative coating) maybe people would actually see Electric cars as kind of cool
Instead we get these boring designs making it into production. Atleast the Taycan and Nevera still look like actual cars.
It is a planned vehicle, it's just the Structural Supercapacitor-based Batteries and Carbon Nanotubes that have yet to be possible & readily available to make it.
Honestly would be nice to see a EV that doesn't have that much electronics inside besides the engine, like i so much more preffer analog buttons and displays, use the newest tech on the backend so it works nice but just keep that controlled with buttons you can actually feel. I am pretty young and very familliar with tech, so it's not that i am afraid to adapt to the new stuff, just have a preference. Also replacing a screen is gonna be way more costly than replacing a button, and when the cheap ass computer powering it starts lagging within a couple years of updates, it's gonna be painfull to use.
And it doesn't have to be entirely without a screen, just don't make the whole dashboard a single screen

You're forgetting the Exoskeleton they stamp can't be shaped into anything but that, though Reverb from Acceleracers has a better design and that includes the interior but that's way harder to produce I believe.
The think I find most annoying about them is how the car companies go on about how they have an attractive design even when they look like total garbage

The 1980s-2000s will definitely have a special place in my favorites. Even most of the 2010s cars still looked like cars and not some battery powered wheelchairs with doors.
I agree with the "retro bike designs" coming back into fashion. In India, models of the Czech motorcycle brand Jawa were incredibly popular in the 1970s, so much so that when the local licensee went out of business in the 90s, people were scrambling to get them, even as second-hand bikes.
After a gap of 25 years, the brand again came back into India, and when it re-launched, its first model was an EXACT replica of the original, only with a more efficient and powerful 4-stroke engine, going as far as to split the exhaust port in two to get the iconic twin-exhaust look. Even the length and shape of the pipes were carefully designed to replicate the thump of the original as closely as possible.
This is the exact reason why I love the Triumph Bonneville series of motorcycles the designs haven't changed since the 60's but they improve on the Engine and all the other aspects that are actually important
