  • 4 MORE Car Nerd Arguments I'm Tired Of Hearing......MORE Stupid Things Car Guys Say. Tesla Plaid 0-60s? More Like Nissan Leaf Supremacy! Hype is Destroying Car Culture, especially JDM Car prices. From 80% Of car sales being SUVs, to the inevitable demise of fun sports cars and the consolidation of one track minds, corporations will make cars become specced out compliances...and make you pay 200% more for them. The Average car now costs $47K, let that sink in. That's half of 100K basically. No wonder my generation can't afford houses now. Y'all care so much about Specced out iPhone 15's that cost $1400 and now want the same thing with cars. When a phone is specced out, at least 40% of $1000 Is just $400, but for a car, it's THOUSANDS, sometimes even TENS OF THOUSANDS.

100% my Golf Alltrack has a much bigger trunk than the Taos that VW has replaced it with.
Smaller trunk, smaller engine, less power, less attractive and sporty shape, touch sensitive steering wheel buttons, whats not to hate about the replacement for a great car? Plus if you are paying the prices they are charging for the Taos, you would have to be an idiot to not go with the much roomier, more comfortable, more powerful, yet still efficient, Tiguan. So they killed the Golf wagons for no reason other than sheep need SUV.

It always amazes me how people are now conditioned to want to buy a new car every 4-5 years because of these "newer, better" features that practically don't really change your day to day operations. Last September, I was fortunate enough to have the means to buy a Tesla Model 3 in cash. It's a car that I really wanted for a variety of reasons and plan to keep as long as I physically can. Because of this, the first thing I thought was, "How can I protect this?" and started looking into PPF and ceramic coatings. During my research, the amount of videos mentioning thinking about, "How long do you plan to keep it?" and "Would you want to spend another $2k on a used car for this coating/film if you were buying this?" was honestly shocking, as if you're wrong for not trading in your car every 4-5 years for something new. It's dumb. I have the car I want, it's paid off and insurance + maintenance is cheaper than my prior vehicle. Why would I want to get rid of it? It's sad how people get conned into getting into an endless cycle of debt.

I bought a used Kia Soul EV 2018 a few years ago with a 13 second 0-60. It's an awesome car and it handled really well. Have been through multiple Washington state snowstorms and only failed to make it up 1 hill because of front wheel drive. Ah well, just walked the quarter mile home and parked it in a church parking lot overnight until the snow thawed the next day.
Luggage space fits about two-three suitcases. Perfect for airport runs. If I really need more space I can fold down the back seats and have tons of space for everything. I take it camping, on road trips (yes even though it has a 110 mile range), up mountains and along rivers. Finding parking for it when I do decide to go into a city isn't difficult, as it's tiny compared to a F250 Super Duty Crew Cab sister-fucker truck (which they insist is absolutely necessary to have so they can haul about 3% of the time.)
It's also super cheap to drive, it only costs me about $2.50 to completely charge it, letting me get around for a few bucks at a time.

I'm glad to hear your rant about the SUV. After my car was totaled by a semi truck crash (I survived with no injuries), I specifically prefer full-sized entry-level American luxury sedans as a daily commute, as that was the kind of car I had previously. Unfortunately, they don't make those kind of cars anymore and pretty much ended up buying me a 21-year-old Bonneville that needs a lot of work to get going. While I should have probably spent that money on a newer model, ultimately, I feel like this Bonneville will definitely make me happier and it's actually paid off. I have absolute faith that once the car is sorted out, I will be happy.
I managed to talk SEVERAL PEOPLE out of buying an SUV and convinced them to buy sedans/hatchbacks/minivans instead.

I still think that space matters for us, because with 5 people in family, going to vacation for week or 2 is easier.

I live in Brazil. My father has a 2012 Corsa hatchback.
He brought us a washing machine over the car to another city away from 10 kilometers.
This car runs 12-13 km/L and transports a WASHING MACHINE. there are SUV cars here which aren't able to do it and run worse.

0:17 Anyone in the military world who has been there and done that will tell you that there’s *nothing* that can do better than an A-10 Warthog at close-range combat. It’s not even a question.

The good thing about Europe is that SUVs don't really match here. Too many narrow streets and too few parking spaces for those behemoths.

The whole "famous cars that costs more money" thing applies double to classics. Theres a guy in my area who is trying to sell a 66 Mustang with no engine, no diff, no glass, and a couple holes in the floor for $6,000. I'm so glad that I got ahold of my grandfathers 67 galaxie, my family was thinking of just selling it, but I poured $2,500 and 3 years of work into it, and now I have a reliable daily driver. It definitley still needs work, but it gets me from point a to point b safely. And now me and my father have been working to make owning cars more affordable, we just finished replacing a transmission seal that a shop quoted 5000 to do, we only charge 1500, owning a car should not put you in constant debt, so we try to alive that as much as we can

People by TVs that often??? My parents still use TVs they bought over a decade ago because 1080p is fine, buying one every year is insane to me.

If you want space, get a minivan. Not an SUV.

Regarding the constant financing: I worked with a guy who bought a car, had to sell it before the loan was paid off (to cover other debts, I think) so he still owed the balance of the loan. Then he bought (financed) a second car and then ended up selling *that* one as well. He owed money on 2 loans for cars he didn't even have any more.

Speaking of SUVs, the only exceptions I’d make to getting an SUV would be anything unique or extreme like a Ford Excursion or a Hummer H1/Humvee or maybe a squarebody Suburban. Or a GMT800 suburban with quadrasteer.

There's NO WAY anyone could ever reason why would they spend 250k on a Supra (of any other "normal" JDM) or either you're buying it directly from Nagata himself or it's 100% not worth it.
For that money you could buy and mod like 10 Supras wtf.

I see it both ways, in New Orleans the streets are so bad not having a suv or truck not an option in too many potholes and uneven streets. Then again its the south lifted trucks and stuff are all over.

I still consider myself a Petrolhead.
I enjoy my Kia e-Soul. It's quiet, takes me were I want to go at the speed I want to drive and when I get home I plug it into a 220v outlet 'cause I don't even have a home charger (and I haven't needed one in the 3 years I've owned the Kia)
