Aww, I hate that people get shields wrong now that we are finally on the edge of making them. Plasma shields can block any weapon but energy based ones indefinitely with enough power. The age of laser warfare is coming, but it's coming on the back of plasma shields that will go from blunting explosions to stopping heavy slugs. Of course the earliest reasonable laser weapons will need to charge shots in some kind of compactor, so we might just get the pew pew laser guns as well. SCIENCE. 🧑🔬
perhaps...but just like it was figured out decades ago. lasers will never be used in anti-personnel warfare, because having a weapon that cauterizes the wound it makes isn't good battlefield doctrine. (over simplified doctrine - shoot 1 soldier, now you need 2 to remove him thus costing the enemy 3 soldiers)
