This guy's a genius. I wish I could've taken a course about this stuff in high school. Art classes aren't the same thing, they're usually talking about paintings and stuff.
@Randominator It appears that you have too much time on your hands.
@@pdubby Grapes are fun
Randominator if this was School sure.
highschool, or the one I went to, did "not" teach this kind of thing, it was the basics of art, like drawing still-life and paints, etc.... :( Even college doesn't always teach you what you would like to learn the most and you end up paying big time for that.
My high school art class taught me NOTHING. I learned how to draw from Jim LEE and David Finch.
His "simple" sketches always blow me away. Wish we could clone Jim and have him teach at every art school
Most insightful tips on how to visualize body movement I've ever been exposed to. Since watching this, I created a dozen quick sketches and one nailed the action I visualized simply by relating the chest and pelvis positions.
Check out Bridgeman's Constructive Anatomy

Jim doesn't owe us an apology for anything. I appreciate him taking the time and effort to explain how it's done.
I wish UA-cam and these Jim Lee videos had existed when I was 10 years old. I'd probably be a comic book artist by now.
It ain't too late yet
You’re alive Joe? No reason you can’t do it now except the reasons you make and accept.
For sure it's never too late.. I've just started drawing.. have fun and give yourself permission to dream and fly high
for real!
Get going
Jim Lee and Todd McFarlane. Two of my favorite comic book artists of all time! This is an absolute treat to watch and learn! :)
This guy is a genius. Makes it look easy.
0:42 Jim Lee? More like Gym Lee.
Hahahaha
Literally laughed out loud!
BOOOOOO!!!! 👎😡🐂💩🗑🐑

I will learn the way..
I will.....
This takes time to learn. A lot of time and actual love for it. Don’t do it for the wrong reasons.
amani mango what are the wrong reasons?
@@684avatar I don't think anyone could do it for wrong readons. I mean it's not a job that makes alot of money and fame. Everyone draws cuz they love it
Real happy i stumbled across this!!! I couldn't believe it when i read that Jim Lee is giving are lessons, unbelievable. I can't stop smiling as i watch them. Thanks!!
Jim IS the modern day Jack Kirby. No one else has been so influential in the field of modern comics.
Not sure if Jim knows this; but he is a superb unintentional ASMRtist.
Your videos are so relaxing. I love how your mic pics up the pencil. Always been a big fan. Love that you take the time to do these.
This is the ComicBook version of Leonardo daVinci teaching how to paint

Wilson Studios that’s Alex Ross lol
give this man an Oscar
@@skadooshly Yeah Ross's painting is extremely refined.
@@skadooshly Alex Ross has a completely different style.
Randomly came across this channel.... was not disappointed!! 😌😌😌
Damn it 😂. You make it look so easy. You’re incredible. I’m in art school and I have a hard time loosening up in my work, it takes me entirely too long to lay out a pose let alone a finish. Bravo. Just saw you the other day on Fatman Beyond, and while you’ve been here all along, I just now figured out you had a channel. You’ve got yourself another subscriber, this is treasure trove of knowledge. Thank you for your wisdom and experience Jim. Keep up the good work.
When I was a kid, I actually drew every page, panel for panel, of Fantastic Four #57 using sight and instinct. It didn't look exactly like Jack Kirby, but it came pretty close. Unfortunately, I didn't pursue the art. This has renewed my passion for drawing. Thank you very much for such a great and concise video.
How amazing and helpful is this! Especially love the line at the beginning about learning off anatomy (alone) not being enough to pull these off- that's what I've learnt for myself as well.
Jim Lee is hands down the best comic ever artists
Jim's voice calms me, thank you Jim for this course🙏
Great stuff! Love that RM cameo in the background. Met Jim Lee in 1990 at a mini con In downtown SF near EMB. Was trying to get him to notice my art but he was getting hounded. Some guy named Bob Harras was giving me props for my art but I was paying too much attention to Jim Lee. What a dummy I was. Suzanne Gaffney and Whilce Portacio were also there.
Jim has always been my favorite comic book artist. I wish he would come out with an art/ drawing book
Jim can simply sign that sketch he did and be good for the whole year.
I've always been into comics and drawing but in high school and college it was all sports for me, now that i cant really play anymore, (shoulder) You have inspired me to draw more. Thanks.
He makes it look so easy! I'm trying to learn how to draw properly so I can bring my superhero story to life. It looks like once you understand the proportions of human anatomy of body parts like head, rib cage, torso, arms and legs, hands, feet and their lenghts, you can draw well.
Great technique and breakdown thanks, wasn't expecting the flat Ronnie that's awesome.
Beautiful thing is, The Legend is teaching us ... you are the best Sir Jim Lee .
Love the "Ronnie the Limo driver" in the background!!
He draws DD so beautifully
minute 2:18 jim lee draws an apple. Just want to say Jim ROCKS!
Everybody tune in to twitch.tv/jimlee on Sunday at 10 AM Pacific time...
Do you draw comics and if so can i get a link to see some of your work thanks
I doodle here and there but I'm not confident enough in my work to share it. Maybe one day...
Thanks for all video you post i have been studying Jim lee and Alvin lee sense the 90's to create my own style
Not a problem, man. Those are two excellent artists to study from.
Dude you are now my favorite artist in the WORLD!!
I try ua-cam.com/video/NxWGQMSXbN8/v-deo.html
I wish you were my art teacher when I was in school! My life may have turned out very different. Thanks for sharing your great talent.
I actually follow both reference it was amazing to hear it from a pro well not everyone on this day have little sister's ballerina always jumping and dancing and don't forget the action figures collection the rubber band detail just caught me off guard you make me travel on your personal time machine those was priceless days thanks for your inspirational time
This is so inspiring i love comic books and drawing the characters but when drawing action poses it never felt right or good enough.Iam excited to draw again you are amazing thank you
Just practice, I'm sure his drawings didn't look good when he first started.

Scared the sh*t out of me

Hi Jim! Loving your series, serious long time fan, don't quite idolise you (creepy!), but you, humberto, and a bunch of others are my linework heroes, I stare at pages for 15 minutes at a time without realising. Any-hoo, just followed this one over a few hours or so, lots of breaks from chronic fatigue, but improving rapidly. Haven't drawn in years and missed the basics at school (they just didn't teach it) so LOVING this! Thanks for the masterclass for FREE, who knew?!?
Damn, when he flexes. Damnnn. You can tell he's been working hard hehe! And like prior comments have told, it does show in his art, and that sometimes detailed or lengthy drawings could be taxing, and sitting around a lot can have adverse effects to the body so it's important to move around too. So, it's nice he has a peak physical condition as well cuz it actually helps in drawing too and sitting down, keeping a good posture
Remember that 90´s show with Stan Lee about making comics when Rob Liefeld and Todd MacFarlane are there drawing some dude and Rob says to Todd "wanna teach them something about anatomy?" and Todd says "ANATOMY? I don´t know the anatomy" and then Jim and Whilce Portacio come to save the day :v
It really just goes to show that you don't need to study the shit put of anatomy to be a good artist
Marco Martinez um you kinda do
@@RubbinRobbin
Um you kinda fucking don't. There's been plenty of artists who haven't even opened up a single anatomy book and are still able to make accurate human forms. It's not impossible to render a human form, you literally are just putting lines on paper.
@@marcomartinez856 jesus guy chill the fuck out
@MadTrax yeah there's a difference between knowing the anatomy (i.e. having a good understanding of what a human being looks like) and learning the names of all of the muscles from an anatomy book.
Who the actual F&%K disliked this video!?
Brooks Oswald marvel fanboys?
snobby artists who dont agree
Too true! lol
Brooks Oswald i did
Anirudh Ramakrishnan But he’s drawing a Marvel character 😂
This was great stuff Mr Lee. You simplified the way of making the process. Thank you sir.
I try ua-cam.com/video/NxWGQMSXbN8/v-deo.html
Thank you for your patience to teach so many of us.
Of all the tutorials I have watched this one is definitely the most helpful
Mr Lee , you know you didn't teach anything but that was inspiring for fast drawing and thank you for that....if you see an ability in someone else , you realize that you can do it too!
Those strokes are so pro.
This man is so amazing to watch
I cam here from a Finch vid. Getting back into drawing and realizing I need to understand anatomy better. I was just getting started with our vid and cracked up at your Flat Ronnie in the background....LOL...Looking foward to your vid.
He's so fast
Thank you for this tutorial! I love it!!! Jim Lee, you are a genius!!!
Thanks for the tips!
I don’t get the “thumbs down”. He doesn’t HAVE to do this. We didn’t pay him to teach us this. It’s free. He’s an instant Hall of Famer. If someone doesn’t like this vid... they can simply scroll to something else.
I've always loved drawing and try to get better every time I draw but what Jim Lee sketches in 10 seconds is more than I can do in 10 minutes loo
what a great tip, I watch you periodically and think you're amazing. Honestly, you should do a couple vids of you discussing other artists works. "Jack Kirby", as a constructive criticism, or discussion of styles. Just a thought, I'd enjoy that.
What the fuck I can create dynamic poses without any problems. Thanks Jim Lee!You are super awesome!!!
I lost my sanity when he drew the same pose of the Daredevil from a different angle. 🤣🤣🤣
estos son las *décadas* de vida de jim lee✨

The flat Ronnie in the back is hilarious!!!! 69!!! Had no idea Jim was a Howard fan.

Amazing! Thank you for the lesson. You inspired me a lot.
I tried to follow along, but my point "A" and point "B" didn't connect so well :) goes to show a master always hits his mark, whereas the apprentice doesn't always. Great video Mr.Lee, thumbs up, and keep up the excellent work. I'm subscribed also. Lee moves so fast I have to playback over and over just to try and keep up with him, great lesson .

this video actually helped a lot
I feel like in the first 2 minutes of this video I've learned more than I have in the past month...
This helped soooooo much. I feel like a god at drawing now 👍
Amazing drawings!
You won me at GI Joe!!!
Love Bridgman.
This taught me too much..love it❤

should I use the rib cage and torso to practice anatomy then?
What's Ronnie Mund doing behind Jim? They going to Scores or Rick's after the lesson?
Can also use a barrel shape and a box for torso and pelvis.
Living legend
Thank you so much now i can draw very cool superheroes 🦸🏽♂️
I came here for Jim Lee anatomy knowledge, knowing that frank Miller has sketchbooks is a bonus to me
Same. I wonder if they sell anything like that, the way they sell manga artist artbooks
@@marcomartinez856 My local comic shop has lots of artist sketchbooks. really they're curated works, lotta rough pencils and tighter pencils, watercolor sketches. You aren't gonna get scribbly garbage pages like looking through a real sketchbook. But i got an Alex Ross "sketchbook" full of finished work and rough work.
Omg thank u so much for this!I've understood alot im so glad and happy
Thank you Mr. Lee!
hey Jim, when was the last time you made at that wasn't a Jim Lee derivative
He made this just to show off his bicep -_-
Jk
What rubbish
Thank you
I don't need to remind you how amazing you are but thank you for such experience 😊🎉❤
Can you do the female body too. I feel like the male body is pretty easy because of how angular it is but I have trouble with female curvature and when/where to place it
Thanks for the help, I’m a kid who wants to learn more about drawing🙂
Belas dicas mestre 😍
I am 65. like to learn basis to improve myself. explained nicely.
im studying anatomy and body gestures which is the first parts that i will draw correctly head or the torso

Thank you sir.
One day I must get one of those wooden figures artists use for drawing the stances of their characters.
