Fantastic video! Him being not as up to the challenge compared to an arguably more capable action hero always creates the most interesting beats in the Indy movies. His comedic luck sometimes, will to survive, or sheer perseverance, is always entertaining and inspiring. I really wish more action heroes or just movies in general followed his archetype, it's all the more satisfying when they succeed. Such a great era of film and entertainment.
this was fantastically worded! I’ve never made the connection of Indiana Jones and silent film characters before but it truly makes so much sense when laid out like this. The humor in Indy’s adventures has always set this franchise apart in the best way
This is exactly what film analysis should be, ik it can often be dismissed as pretentious nowadays, even in the era of video essays, but you have a great argument and even just that title made me realise that link that I never made before but is so clear. And its what makes Indiana Jones so fantastic, the physical gags and stunts, that impressed timelessly in the 1920s and impressed timelessly under Spielberg, and have been justifiably pointed out as lacking of today.
Thanks for saying so! I'm glad there are other people spotting this stuff, and I agree, it's a shame this kind of filmmaking is largely lacking nowadays.
@@ReframedYT You’re welcome! I’m working on an Indy cabaret act which ties all these elements together wherein I portray the Indy character but I play up the Chaplin elements inherent in the character, with drag clownish make-up and using lip sync in a silent movie fashion. I’ve been working on the act for a year or so and for ages I’d felt like I was on to something with it… and your video just completely validated it so a huge massive thank you!
@@SamuelDJCox That sounds really cool! Best of luck with it. I was quite pleased myself to hear James Mangold talk about Buster Keaton in relation to the new movie. Nice to know our hunches were right!
2:04 DOUGLAS FAIRBANKS?! THATS CHARLTON HESTON! AND DOBBS IS NOT A HERO HES A VILLAIN!! it's like saying the hero Hannibal Lector or Darth Vader lmao. This video is badly researched.
luv this series, I was about 18 when it came to the theater, after that I was always getting hurt lowering myself down ropes into caves, exploring abandoned under ground bunkers, climbing on the side of cliffs, swimming across rivers, no regret's :)

Can't remember the last time I watched such a well-made video essay which packed so much interesting information into so short a time span. Bravo!
Love the video, great job conveying what separates Indiana Jones from the less organic character of James Bond
That was eye-opening! I would have never made the silent movie era link, but it is so obvious now you showed it.
This is a perfect analysis of the character!
Thank you thank you thank you!
Very kind of you to say! Thank you :)

Great video. Please make another about Dr Jones and the last crusade.
Outstanding
Loved it
Does anyone know the name of that silent film where that man fights that big rubber lizard thing; I’m desperate to watch it
At what minute?

You’re right, apologies for the errors. I’ll put a correction in the description.
He tried his best
@@ReframedYT great video and I love it
I don’t mind Indiana age old but make him weak is disrespectful there is only three movies
Diak made him weak AF at least Crystal still made him a great badass
