I am so glad UCLA has made many lectures like these available. With free valuable sources of information out there, there is no reason for ignorance. Even if you aren't going for a degree, you can learn and become a more knowledgeable person. I am really enjoying these lectures so far.
not entirely sure.... it takes *time* to watch videos like these, and *effort* to study a topic. it's not enough to just passively watch something. if you want to really learn, youve got to spend time thinking about the concepts, solving problems, applying these theories to practical examples. and that takes both time and effort. it takes a lot of energy not many people can afford (imagine coming home from work dead tired just to start doing yet more work...), and it takes a certain mental capacity few people have. so while the resources are available, very few people are in a position where they can put these resources to good use to actually better their own lives. many people are simply too busy to study. and others simply do not have the strength of mind. it's all too easy to call them "lazy", but let me ask you a question. when you come home from work, would you rather put on a relaxing song and watch a cozy movie that makes you laugh and feel good,..... *OR* would you rather sit down and watch a lecture, take lecture notes, do class homework, read a textbook, think about all these concepts, and then write a 30,000 word paper on it?? ....which one would you pick? honestly??
@@KaizenKitty I am aware of that. But anti-intellectualism and anti-academia and attacks on educators is a problem as well. I am not critiquing those who can't. I am critiquing those who can and choose not to. Some people really are just intellectually lazy. I am not saying everyone who isn't taking time is. I think you took my comment too personally. Honestly, I am the worst person to ask. Because I am a nerd and would pick the lecture and reading cited materials. Learning is relaxing and fun to me. I rarely watch TV and can't keep up with popular shows because I get bored but understand many people just want to zone out and relax to TV when tired after work. I know not everyone finds it fun or relaxing. For me, I can't get enough.
THis is a fun course so far. What's the deal with the students in the class. They're going to take a test at the end of the course? And if they pass it? They get a college credit? I would like to take that test. Just for fun. Would it be possible to get a copy of the current test? Or an old copy?
I think that rltshspshspsh are a function of!!! His enthusiasm is contagious!! :D I'm much like that when I speak about something I'm passionate about.
"This is the Difference Between aHypothesis and a Theory. In scientific reasoning, a hypothesis is an assumption made before any research has been completed for the sake of testing. A theory on the other hand is a principle set to explain phenomena already supported by data." And if you say, oh I have a theory of how that thing works, that's based on assumptions, facts and other things mentioned from the dictionary. So it is wrong to say "oh I have a theory" hypothesis is the right word.
Please spare me ... all of this is too vague ... take a logic or mathematics course: theories, models, and maps are all mashed together in this course in such a way that they become psychological to the degree everything is left vague...

What did he mean, 'Let's see if we can do better on Friday' ?
Good lecturer, but judging from the pace of these videos I don't feel that there's quite enough content here to justify an entire course
agree to disagree? it is a good introductory course

How about a theory that helps us do something bro
