I appreciate yall understanding. I have received a ton of hateful comments about me talking over the song( which I do in this video) but that is only to not receive a copyright strike or complete block... so his solo I most definitely didn't want to pause. Reaction videos are no joke to make... they are not easy. I appreciate your understanding.

I too was there and bought the t-shirt (and giant poster). It was incredible. I would never sell my merch and PF albums but I know it would run into $thousands! Comfortably numb is about a rock star on drugs and needs a 'shot' to perform. Whilst 'spaced out' he remembers a time, when young, when he was very ill in bed. He likens his current state to that time. An absolute must for a PF fan is to watch 'The Wall' the movie, starring Bob Geldolf as Pink.

Saw Yes, Genesis and Jethro Tull (seven times each) and all had amazing live shows, but Pink Floyd and "Comfortably Numb" was the most gobs-macking experience of my concert-going life (and second place was not even close).
Give Yes ("Roundabout"), Genesis (Firth of Fifth") and Jethro Toll ("Locomotive Breath") a listen. The '70's was an amazing decade for Prog Rock and those three along with Pink Floyd did a lot of experimenting and pioneering you can still hear in music today.

Pink Floyd is in my top three bands of all time.. You're right, there is nothing like great classic rock from the 70's... Had the pleasure to see Roger Waters (solo) at the Hollywood Bowl about 10 years ago.... Such an incredible experience... He performed Dark SIde of the Moon in it's entirety plus other songs from Pink Floyd.... Blew me away... Got a great contact high, that's for sure... lol..... Never saw Pink Floyd with both Gilmore and Waters, but I know someone who witnessed this in 1994 at Yankee Stadium..... getting back to Comfortably Numb, one of Floyd's greatest songs, plus one of the greatest guitar solos ever done... Definitely need to light one up when listening to the FLOYD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sky, you make an excellent point about the "sound" of the band. The sonics. I wasn't at this concert in '94. However, I saw them in '74 and that concert remains the most impressive gig sonically that I have ever been to. Right from their early years, Pink Floyd were rightly renowned for their advances in sound quality, lighting and the use of video backdrops.

I have been to many a Pink Floyd concert, starting with their sun set/sun rise open air festivals in the UK . Everyone eclipsing the last. Saw them in Den Haag (Holland) about 1987 or 88 and it all started with two bi-planes doing an aerial dance and actually flying into the arena. Saw this concert at the Mile High stadium in Denver. The world's largest disco ball actually grew from the stadium floor, and then opened like a flower. Amazing. Also, this was when the old airport was "in town (Stapleton)" and they diverted all incoming flights to land from the east because of all the lasers! ... There was never a band like them, and I doubt there ever will be again.

The second time was at the momentary lapse of reason concert in November 1987, and the last time at the division bell tour in April of 1994, which is the concert you just watched.

Yes I was at this show, a little background for you. The big mirror ball at the end was covered in a black cloth for the whole show, so it was a big surprise for everyone there. also all Floyd shows are performed in Quadraphonic (Surround Sound). and you are correct this song was originally written by Gilmour and Roger Waters added the words. There is no chance now of ever seeing the Floyd live but the nearest you can get is to go and see a Roger Waters show. Great reaction Sky.

I was there, that very night. The only time I ever saw them live, and easily the best concert I've ever experienced.
Over two hours, with a break halfway through, then this was the 2nd song of the three-song encore.
You can make out, even on the video, the gasp from the audience as that whole circular lighting truss (which had been a projection screen for most of the show and weighed several tons, right over the heads of the performers) started moving to rotate down from vertical to horizontal. Then when that ball was illuminated, minds were blown. It was like a star going supernova right over the centre of the arena. It remains the largest mirror-ball ever created, and the illumination is from 24 2Kw super-troupers - the most powerful spotlights available with flood to spot focusing at the time (and memorialised in the ABBA song by that name). They are huge and heavy, and use easily as much power again in cooling the lighting head and power supply.
Note also that it isn't a one-off - That auditorium holds nearly 20,000 and they sold it out for a fourteen night run at the end of the tour, playing to over a quarter of a million people at that venue alone.
I went to the same college (now part of Anglia Ruskin University) as David Gilmour and Syd Barret. Syd has a memorial stone in the wall of the arts building, where he studied. Every year I propose David for the vice chancellor's awards in two separate categories, lifetime achievement and contribution to the arts, and now my wife has graduated from there too, so she can second my nominations. I'll keep it up until he has both. There is no better-known alumnus of the college, and certainly, none come close in contribution to culture.
The lasers for this tour were apparently an experimental design, much more powerful than anything previously made and from Canada - when Pink Floyd heard about them, they leased every single one in existence for the tour, so they were, quite literally, irreplaceable.
Sadly, Earl's Court is gone to housing developers as it was disgracefully allowed to fall into disrepair despite being listed. It was so large it extended into three London boroughs, had two stops on the underground, and its own electricity substation, upgraded several times over the decades of its existence. Pink Floyd extracted all the available power for all their gigs, and this was no exception. Apparently, the national grid had their timetable listed so that they would know when to bring power online and when to reduce it after the show. Coping with the fluctuations was apparently tricky!
    Epic seems inadequate.

In the Comfortably Numb Pulse concert, you saw 3 members of Pink Floyd from the 1960’s performing live at around age 50. The 1994 technology of their light show looks more advanced than what you would see in today’s technology.

It is this concert that changed my world. I did not got to Earls Court in London, but I saw the same concert in Rotterdam, The Netherlands in the same year. The only difference is that this is a smaller indoor arena, and the stadium I saw it in was a Football stadium that could hold 50,000. The huge discoball, instead of coming down from the ceiling, came out of the middle of the ground, basically where the kick off spot is on a football (soccer) field.
While it was a different location, the show was just as awesome as the performance you saw here. That is the concert that got me hooked to Pink Floyd. I owned Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall before I went to this show, because hey..... every self respecting rock fan would have at least those two albums. But then I went to this concert. The next day, I went to the record store and bought the Division Bell. Over the next few years (and as money allowed) I bought almost every Pink Floyd album ever made. I think the only one I do not own is Umma Gumma. I have re-bought several on vinyl this year.
In 2016 I had the privilege to also see Roger Waters in Los Angeles, where I live these days (well, OC...), having moved to the USA in 2002. Pink Floyd in 1994 did not have Roger Waters in it, he left the band in the mid eighties after fighting within the band. I do not care about who is right or whatever, I just want to see and listen to Pink Floyd..... that 2016 concert is also amazing.
If/when David Gilmour tours again after this pandemic is done, I will go see him, and I recommend everyone do. Because it may be your last chance.....
I want this song, this version played at my funeral. Hopefully, that won't be for another 50 years....

I saw this same show in N.Y. 1994. The concert brochure said the stage is 120 feet wide. It takes a crew of 60 technicians three days to set up the entire lights and all. The concert schedule required that there had to be three entire crews to keep up. They leap frogged each other for 92 shows with 20 Trucks per crew and a total staff of 195. The tour cost the promoters $98.MILLION to put on, but the total profit was $260 MILLION…
I have seen Pink Floyd 4 times. Nick Mason’s drumming is incredible and matches Gilmour’s guitar emotions while Richard Wright takes us on a Magic Carpet Ride of tones that form the foundation of it all.

You are correct that Roger waters came down sick. His hands swelled up and was in sever pain. He was suffering from Hepatitus. They gave him medication to feel better, but was able to play afterwards at that performance. So the song was never about drugs, or even about masturbation (hands felt like two balloons) that some people allege, which is a pretty sick concept. He said he couldnt feel the fret board of his bass with his fingers. However with 15,000 people shouting and screaming didnt seem to notice. Roger Waters left the group in 1985, he was the writer of the lyrics of this song, and David Gilmour also had lyrics. They had such a fight about it that Roger left to go on his own. So Roger was not in this performance. And for those wondering about the rotating mirrors on the stage. Those were the Gibson Maestro Rover RO-1 revolving speakers. One of them was revolving near David Gilmour.

Sky, I saw Pink Floyd back before DSOTM was released in 1972 in a small rectangular hall in Austin Tx. I believe that is the earliest of any of your comments here by at least a decade. They were experimenting with a quad PA system so the sound kept circling the hall. We heard Astronomy Dominie, See Emily Play, Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun, Careful With That Axe Eugene and the encore was Echos. Small hall, quad sound and Pink Floyd while they were still in their experimental stage. It was my favorite Pink Floyd show as it was them before they staged everything and it was just the 4 of them playing their hearts out. Visual effects were smoke and light as lasers weren't readily available back then. Even so some people, perhaps having imbibed in psychotropics, were led out by the hand as they were unable to process any more. I still to this day rate it as the best show I have ever seen and I have been to hundreds of shows.

@@vicprovost2561 That's about the same time I was introduced to them as well. A great year for new beginnings. That is when I started playing bass while continuing to play guitar. Also play Didgereedoo and sing. Got to play with many of the famous over the years. The Laurel Canyon scene in LA was notorious for all the musicians living there.

@@tonyharmon8512 Good for you Tony, my fingers would not cooperate so was never a musician but have a good ear for what I perceive as good music (that would be rock, metal and the blues for me, no rap, hip hop or modern pop). I have been to hundreds of shows since 1971 and look forward to more. 😎 Enjoy & Rock On.

The guitar solo and the visuals around it, should have every single person who sees it, a bit weepy. It still does to me and I saw this tour.

Glad to see your appreciation for this! To answer your question, I saw Pink Floyd on this Pulse tour at The Alamodome in San Antonio in 1994. There were 47,000 fans and I had 18th row seats on the floor. The first half of the show they played the entire album Dark Side of the Moon start to finish, and the second half was songs from The Division Bell and other popular songs. It was an experience of a lifetime! Also saw them in 1987 in Austin on The Momentary Lapse of Reason tour

Saw twice in Switzerland. Once in Lausanne in 1987 (Momentary lapse of reason) and once in Basel in 1994 (PULSE). Unforgettable!

I was 16 in 1987 when "Learning to Fly" came out. I bought the Momentary Lapse of Reason cassette for the first girl I'd kissed, but such was fate that we "broke up" before I could give her my romantic gift.
I listened to it. I told a friend they were good. He showed up the next day with dubbed cassettes of their entire catalogue. It is easily the best music I have ever heard.
You are 100% correct about classic rock from the 70s. When I went to college I became a DJ just to play that music, and by the time Pulse came around two weeks before I graduated our station was sending busloads of people to shows in Boston and Montreal. We sold one Boston bus and four Montreal buses. The station got four free tickets for every full bus, so I went twice for free. 5/20/94 outdoors in Foxboro, 5/22/94 Sunday night indoors in Montreal.
Anticipated those shows with deep gratitude. When I die they will still be a part of me. This timeless progressive humanistic music will last as long as people do because it pulls something from inside people across age, gender, nationality. This art proves we have more in common than we don't.

Never saw Pink Floyd, but I do know relatives of mine who have seen them and plenty of other awesome shows I would have loved to see live such as Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Blue Oyster Cult and loads others.....
I've seen Metallica w/ Suicidal Tendencies and Danzig, Def Leppard w/ Tripping Daisy, Bon Jovi, Within Temptation and Delain w/ Kamelot and another band I forget. Hoping I get to see Nightwish this year also....

If I may here is a few amazing singers you would love. #1 is Angelina Jordan, and at 17 years old she is the best talent on the planet. #2. Boston. Incredible rock and rock band, and you would love them. #3. Morgan James sing Aerosmith Dream On. Enjoy and best wishes .

Wouldn't it be great if in the last moments that it was the sonic wash of Pink Floyd music that ushered you into the great beyond? The calming influence would sedate the dread of leaving this life for the unknown as we ascend to a greater glorious afterlife. Unless, you were not. The promise entering the light could even direct people to lead better lives. If nothing else, it gives comfort to the senses of the living. And as the world turns, we need it more than ever.

Pink Floyd is my all-time favorite band, though it's close with Rush. However, without a doubt, Comfortably Numb is the song that stands out above all others in their discography. The song works on so many levels and evokes an emotional response every single time I hear it. Glad to know you are a fan as well! They are one of the greatest bands to ever exist.

I was there at the Pulse Concert in Rotterdam. It was performed in a football stadium with no roof. Fun fact was, they got complaints from Schiphol Air-traffic control. Pilots were distracted by the lightshow. Apparently, the approach or take-off flightpath was taking them near Rotterdam.
The concert itself was awesome of course. Best one I have ever witnessed.
The Lightshow for the next number in the encore is even more over the top. Watch the "Run Like Hell" song.

    Sky "ANIMALS" is a must.
I've posted this a thousand times but guitarists like David Gilmore and Adam Jones do more with fewer notes than Eddie and Slash combined. 🔥✌

I could not be more in agreement on this, I saw Van Halen on their first national tour in 1978 when they opened for Black Sabbath. Eddie was a revelation on the magnitude of Jimi Hendrix and soon after everyone wanted to sound like Eddie and be a shredder. The runs and chords we lived in the 60s & 70s were replaced by flash and dash by many guitarists who really could not conjure up what he did. You could still find fine classic rockers in the 80s but they were drowned out by the shredders and show offs who had nowhere near the talent of the players who came before. Give me Gilmour, Page and Michael Schenker any day over the shredders, Vic. 😎

The song has a spiritual quality as human being afterall we're all spiritual beings first and foremost. In this life journey we are tested in this lifetime. Good reaction despite not pausing while speaking.and going back. That's okay you'll get better at it.Guess listening to it again with eyes open or close has a more powerful effect. Lol.

Gives me goosebumps every time! Thank you for your reaction - it’s great to see a younger person responding so positively to music from an earlier time. Check out David Gilmour’s 2016 ‘Live in Pompeii’ performance: even at age 70 he still rules the game!

  • @arclight545

Actually, you need to react to the 2016 David Gilmour Live in Pompeii concert. He has his own band and performs many of the Pink Floyd hits. Gilmour is in his 70s and was the first live act to perform in that amphitheater since 79AD. He had played for more than 2 hours before he performed this song. You really need to react to that concert.
