Great news! They just announced that in 1.0 you'll be able to use the waste for the creation of a new, wasteless power rod production recipe. No more need for storage!
@@jembawls think you can also use the fuel from the new power souce from the plutonium waste to make more energy without waste from the ficsitonium or whatever its called but I might be wrong
Hi Jace, a little tip, the waste storages for nulear waste shall be better somewhere else; very far away else. Best somewhere in the middle of the ocean, far far away from any structures or parts of the map, you want to ever use again. And always construct the possibility/belt system in parallel, to be able to transport the waste out of the storage again. And Plutonium waste is even more radioactive than Uranium waste. For my 24 Uranium nuke plant fully overclocked in the swamp region, I had build a nuke waste storage with 720 of the big containers (12 lines a 60 (5 high a 12 long stacked)), at the outer edge of the ocean in front of the swamp just next to the kill zone. So it was around 300 to 500 m to my first buildings on the swamp region, the first water pumps for the nuke plants were build in a distance of around 200 m. So I had believed, I would have around 1600 h, till I had to take care of it again (and my plutonium factory had to be completed). When the first line of 60 containers was full, I had to recognize my mistake, the water pumps on the ocean were already affected. I immediately had started to build the Plutonium factory in 300 m distance of the nuclear wast storage. When the second line of 60 storage containers was full, I had only 100 m left to my building in the swamp area, all water pumps were already affected and 1/3 of my new build plutonium rod plant. Just to get to the storage containers, to check, how full it was and out again, 18 nuke filters spent. Just to connect the conveyer belt of the storage containers to the Plutonium factory, 40 filters...and I had only 38 filters with me. One filter all 5 seconds or so. The plutonium factory has had a nice capacity with 150% of the nuclear waste production, so it was just a questiion of time, till everything was accessable again.
2 years worth of storage, so epic. I’m imagining running this on a 24/7 server. Also using that Ticket/Rad Barrel method to find the stopping point = Genius! ❤

TFW you don't know how the real world works. this dude left development in the 11th hour. I wouldnt want him back around my team ever again. @@HW-ow9zp I would agree if he was a developer or a team lead, designer etc. He was the community manager. He informed people about updates and managed CSS's social media accounts. There were 2 people anyway and him leaving in the last stretch wouldn't really effect the development cycle of the game. If anything, I believe it was better for CSS since one less mouth to feed, especially when going on 1.0 on a decade long game. I don't know what the company thinks about him, not bad I reckon. But I myself also wouldn't have them over for the celebration of 1.0 solely based on the reason that he is just not part of the team anymore. I wouldn't stretch it hard enough to state not wanting him around my team ever again though.
so. fun fact. we made a massive nuclear waste storage in a world me and my brother had. but the problem is. the radiation keeps expanding. we were creating something like a quarter million megawatts of power from nuclear power alone. you know the hole in the world between the red bamboo fields and the grass fields? well we closed off the very very bottom of it and then completely covered the bottom of it in industrial containers. something like 200+ containers i think it was. end result with the size that our nuclear facility was it would have filled it up in like 3 months i think. but the scary part is how massive the radiation bubble gets. even back up at the surface the radiation could be felt something like 75 meters away from the top of the hole and we were only sitting at like a quarter of the capacity if memory serves. there's actually a server tool we could use to see how big the radiation bloom was. it was pretty wild. if we had filled up the entirety of storage I'm more than a little scared to think how big the radiation bubble would have gotten. even having it at the deepest spot that was still in the world it was just too much radiation to deal with. we ended up kicking up my turbofuel plant, cranking the coal to eleven and turning off every nuclear reactor we could while we worked out getting the plutonium production up and running to get rid of the waste and sink it. storing waste eventually comes back to bite by taking away an entire biome with radiation.
I really think instead of doing the fluid loop, if you make a tower that combines all the outputs of water extractors to a level higher than the input of the nuclear plant, it would fix flow issues, It has been my standard practice since drones to always have some sort of super structure around extractors just for that reason, or the highest point of a superfactory will always be the fluid input towers. It can also allow you to deliver fluids to differents levels of factories if need be. BUT You probably have as much playtime in this save as I do in game total.
The idea of having fluids gather at a higher point and filter down is by far the most sane approach, but ive never opted for it simply because i didnt like the idea of having to route the fluids somewhere else *so that* i could route my fluids smoothly. and so while i'm 10000% making life hard for myself here, I enjoy the challenge and it is still doable (all nuclear power generation has been rock solid smooth for 20+ hours of play since). I did the same with my turbofuel tower (that pumps fuel slowly up, rather than filter down - and that has been smooth for 100hrs or so aside from supply issues at a different factory, unrelated to fluids). it's definitely silly, but I still like the approach and challenge.
@@jembawls The compromise I use: A fluid buffer placed real high, one pump dedicated to fill it, the output has a valve set to 0 for free head lift for the network. Divide groups of extractors into segments separated by valves set to zero, which propagates head lift. Never fill a mk.2 pipe to 600. 360-540 is ideal, 570 max might sometimes work. Pump up at least 2m above input then drop down. Make a loop that goes on top for equalization. Pipes act like non-sloshing buffers. Buffers slosh notoriously bad. Buffers isolated by extractor on one side and zero-set valve on the other confer head lift without slosh. I've done global oil via all pipes using only 2 pumps and 1 buffer. Just to prove concept at scale. Works great locally on coal and fuel plants.

Jace, use valves to block water from entering other water pumps! Yes, it is a flow issue! & use them at pipe connectors too! The connectors literally become very small water storages! The trick is to prevent it, by using valves to prevent back flow! Trust me, it works!!
I did try this, that was my first approach but it simply wouldn't work. Not sure why, i feel in theory it should've, thats why i looped the water back around instead.
