I think you're the only masculine make up artist I've seen on UA-cam. Nothing wrong with the more feminine guys out there, I love them too, but I don't know why they seem way too over the top, while you're more natural, not only in terms of make up, but in terms of behavior... does anyone else feel me??

he has a point. ive watched soo many "beauty gurus" on youtube and all they teach you is how to cake your face and look like a clown. realistically, i wouldn't wear ANY of that out of my house, and trust me i wear alot of makeup. who tf contours their face like that every single day?!?? wayne is the only person who ive actually learned real techniques from and learned valuable makeup skills from.

Am I the only person who is still willing to do eyes and lips and not actually wear foundation? Is it like a RULE that you have to wear a full face of foundation always now? Its ridiculous. If I'm having a good skin day I will skip it, or just put a little bit in a few spots, enough for my blush to stick to, or just use cream blush only.
I rarely wear foundation because most mornings I just can't be bothered. I rarely go out of the house without eyes/lips done though.
I most of the time wear a tinted moisturizer. I tried wearing foundation for a little bit my skin hated it. So I'm back to just tinted moisturizer.
the reason i wear foundation (or rather bb cream) is because i have HORRIBLE dark circles and it helps everything blend in. I wish i didnt have to.

+Janet Dillingham You can use a full coverage foundation and concealer and still look natural. I think people should stop overusing theater and drag techniques (baking, extreme contouring etc) on an everyday basis. Those techniques are not needed if you just want to cover problematic skin. I think that was the point of the above comment.

I think more natural looking eyebrows are the best. Thickness and darkness that suits the face, not just thick and bold for the sake of being thick and bold.

IG brows were going to be my answer too!! And I know he's touched on that subject before also. I am definitely NOT guilty of those brows, I use a little bit of eye shadow and I'm good to go!

heyshaybee I would have to totally agree with you! Entertainment with a touch of education when I don't know what something is, but I would claw my face off to wear my makeup like theirs! If I had a red carpet or runway appearance (right, as if!) or a photo session, I'd consider their style in a second, though.

lol nah I liked this and practice all of the methods he mentioned. makeup (to me) is an art form that should either arouse or intimidate, and Goss was right to mention the frightening aspect of heavy makeup. It's fun that way though.

When people blend light and dark contouring all over the face as he parodied here around 6:50, it just ends up a muddy mess and you wonder why the person even bothers to select a foundation that matches their skin color when they're going to add layers and layers of of other non-matching shades of concealer, dark brown contour lines, baking powder etc etc. The end result is a skin shade that looks nothing like the original color, and with all those layers, the skin looks like a leather bag!

Thank you! I know you're only having a bit of fun, but some of the biggest artists on UA-cam are guilty of all of these tricks. Their influence can't be ignored, and it's sad when young girls think this is the be all and end all of makeup application. As for my trend that needs to die: Overblown highlighting. No one's cheeks need to look like they've been splashed with a bucket of water. Ironically enough, it can be just as aging as contour. So much icky texture. Thank you again for keeping it real. +Erin Nicks Great comment. I think that "celebrity makeup artist" (whatever that really means) and social media famous stars and the makeup artists are very different. At least the techniques usually are. Scott Barnes was doing the whole "contour" thing long before it was on instagram/youtube. And he made Jennifer Lopez look stunning. Mario is one of the most influential makeup artists of our time and created the look for Kim K that everyone wanted. But 99% of the makeup replicating his techniques don't actually look the way he does it or reflect his style. He's truly amazing but i can actually understand why he says to people "don't share this information" in his seminars because people take this bit and that bit, but leave out this bit and that bit, and suddenly its a totally different technique. Makeup really is about self expression and this video, really is just a nonsense bit of fun video. I still contour with the stripes, i rarely "cook the makeup" and i love a bit of brow highlight! But its about moderation. My style might not be someone else's. I might look at someone and think "NO NO NO" but they might look in the mirror and think "YES YES YES" and thats what really matters. Making yourself happy :)

+Wayne Goss Yes! To me, Jennifer Lopez still has the best makeup bronzy glow out there, its so seamless, you can't tell where anything begins or ends. I'm always examining her face to see what's been done lol And you can really tell the difference between when she has it done and doesnt. Would love if you could do a JLO inspired tutorial using all creams!!

Totally agree. Everyone looks the same lately.... Same contour, same highlighter, I would've definitely added the same winged eyeliner... And baking is just a scam, it's purposeless, yet everyone is doing it. Why? Because everyone else is.
Baking isnt scam.. I have problems with oily skin, when i wear that my foundation dont become oily through The day. If i dont USE baking powder, And Only use normal powder my skin gets oily several times a day, my foundation falls off on several places And i gotta put new layers off normal powder over IT all until IT looks like complete shit. And im struggeling with acne, i USE contouring And blush And highlighting, cause with Only The full coverage foundation my skin becomes so 1 colored so i look like a dead man walking. "I have really pale skin." And i dont usually do eyemakeup And my eyebrows if im not Gonna do sometimes special. But i rather look like a cake in The face that to go around flashing 100 pimples in my face. I CAN agree that IT is stupid when someone with a perfect skin does it, but then again there is alot off Ppl struggeling with their skin in different ways. I dont give a fuck about how other Ppl do their makeup tbh. I dont do my countouring And highlighting cause everybody Else does IT, And baking isnt purposeless....

Massive over done eyebrows are my pet hate right now. Girls walking around with blonde hair and big thick painted on dark eyebrows but so many girls do this now. It's annoying because people expect me to draw massive eyebrows on them when I do their makeup :/ No just No.

I wish girls/women would STOP, STOP trying to emulate the Kardashians! On Instagram these days, All you see from huge makeup brands (Not all, But a LOT) Are the same clones over and over. Smoky eyes, Terrible contouring, Wrong colour foundation, Overdrawn liner and nude lips pouting and looking like a cat's anus. NO! You are beautiful being yourself! Tone it down and be you!

It's easy for people with perfect complexion to want sheer foundation. I have ulgy acne prone and scarred skin that needs coverage. I do agree with the contouring. On my skin it doesn't show up anyway and I don't want to highlight the worse part of my face.
Lisa Eldridge did a good video on covering acne/rosseca without caking it.
If you have bad acne, I heard Estée Lauder's double wear foundation is amazing. I haven't tried it but I just ran out of foundation so I'm gonna buy it today at Macy's. My face is pretty clear but I love flawless foundation
The CC+ cream from It Cosmetics is really nice. It gives pretty nice coverage but it's got oatmeal in it and it helps sooth the skin.
Then use concealer. Or just focus the foundation on areas that really needs help and sort of sheer it out in areas where you don't need it. Why cover up the rest of your skin that are good when you've only got a few areas that really needs covering. Remember, a foundation's job is to even out skin tone, not to completely obliterate your entire face. Besides, it doesn't matter how much coverage or what kind of finish of foundation you're using, it's really all about the way the foundation is applied and used through out the face that gives it an appearance of heavy looking. If you've seen other videos of Wayne, Lisa Eldridge, especially Mary Greenwald who sometimes uses a lot of different foundations for a look, you'll notice that they use a wide variety of foundation and a diversity of models with various skin issues, but it always looks like the model just has naturally good skin, and like they've got nothing on.
You're absolutely amazing! Usually I don't really apreciate make-up tutorials. But you are really fun to watch. I love that you lay focus on natural looking make-up looks. Thanks for those great videos!
Clumpy, spidery eyelashes! I HATE them, girls take so much time over the rest of their face and then put on 10 layers of some dried out mascara that sticks all their lashes together and get little weird crumbly bits everywhere. looks like spiderlegs

I feel like the reason that those makeup techniques look so weird is because these are techniques originally used by drag queens. a drag queen will use makeup to change facial features to look more feminine.

I agree with everything you said. Another trends that I wish would go away are the ombre brows, because they look extremelly fake, and the smokey eye, I don't have anything against it, I actually like it, but they are really over-used, I can't stand seeing another smokey eye, it seems like it's the only type of eye makeup people do lately.

Absolutely. What looks beautiful in photos doesn't necessarily look as good in person. Photos capture a single moment and the ones we see of people like Kim Kardashian are usually Photoshopped to make them look even more flawless. But if we were standing right next to them, the same makeup would look garish 😨

I'm tired of fake lashes. I understand some of the beauty gurus on here have extremely short lashes and that falsies just more complete the look, but almost all of them use them for every single tutorial and it's unnecessary.

Agreed! I have naturally long lashes, that are also dark. With the mascaras we have today I see no reason to wear falsies to go to the bloody grocery store or work. it's too much
+Natalee Narmore I absolutely agree. It makes the teenies that watch the tutorials think it's absolutely normal to wear false lashes, and especially lashes that look extremely fake. I personally think they're something for people with sparse or small lashes, like you said, or for people with monolids or for special occasions. Of course everyone can do what they want, but youtube gurus are such immense rolemodels, the new "stars" apart from hollywood stars, and they have such huge influence.

I'm not a fan of the ever-popular drawn eyebrow. I prefer using whatever brow enhancer to darken and shape but still look like I have actual eyebrow hair as opposed to that artificial over-perfect drawn eyebrow.

The "Instagram eyebrow" trend is probably what bugs me most. I never understood how some beauty gurus say to make the inner corner of the brows as faded as possible to make it look more 'natural'. What? That's what makes it look MORE unnatural. No natural pair of brows 'fade' away like that.
Then again, if people want to do it like that, it's fine with me. I respect if that's their thing.
I hate Instagram eyebrows so much. I agree, it makes them stand out in a really unnatural way. All I think is that girl is trying too hard.
+Arian Yupangco Preach! I can't agree more! Problem is... ;-; my eyebrows naturally fade that way because my eyebrows are so freaking *light*! I have black hair but my eyebrows look grey. Having less hair at the start of my brows, they 'fade' from light to dark. I fill that in though. Not into the faded brow look even though my brows are naturally that way.
That is so true. My Natural brows Do not fade. They Are actually "thicker" and "fuller" than the end of my eyebrow 😩

Thank you Wayne! It's so great to hear a professional make up artist advising people to tone things down a bit. I love watching UA-cam makeovers but often feel pressure to do way more than I need to. I just want my skin to look like healthy real skin, not a weird mask that only looks good in photos!

Haha so funny what you said about Clinique girls in Cardiff. To be fair the lighting in that Boots is god awful, but Clinique is all about good skin so why why whyy do they cake the makeup on soo thick. I think the Bobbi Brown girls in John Lewis have got it right tho!

I agree with this! I think that too many people forget that most of the Instagram beauty gurus overdo it just to get an extremely aesthetically pleasing photo and that they normally don't go outside with their instagram looks! These things do tend to photograph well but can look like too much IRL.

Makeup will make it worse. Instead of spending time and money using extreme makeup, put that effort into going to a dermatologist. Then just wear light makeup until your skin clears up.
+Breanna May That's not how it works. As someone who has had acne for 5 years, been to two dermatologists, tried numerous medications, there is no cure that will work for everyone. Makeup does not always make acne worse, and not everyone can achieve flawless skin.

Ugh, faded brows, orange contour (all younger girls in my class are using some really warm toned bronzer to contour their cheekbones...) and lash extensions... It looks so ugly in my opinion, it always clumps up and the girls walk around thinking it looks great, natural and that it's like a replacement for mascara... Most people wear them too long too, so it looks droopy :/

If they look bad and only last 2 weeks it is because she is going to someone who doesn't know what they are doing. I do lash extensions and also have them and no one knows they are extensions.
all I use is a bit of foundation (on on my problem areas not my whole face), mascara (2 coats at max), maybe eyeliner/eye-shadow (brown/neutral colors) if im not lazy. cool toned bronzer, peachy blush and ChapStick

I've been so guilty about the no mascara thing because I just end up a panda at the end of the day. I then diligently studied Wayne's videos and voila. Not a day of bad makeup since. Mascara, eyeshadow (which I never did) and pencil push brush eyelining (only ever did felt tip liner). Not a bad makeup day since.

Ironic, when Wayne has had numerous beauty treatments to improve his face.. botox, filler, laser, etc to help his skin be more youthful looking. Not everyone is happy with their skin, or face shape and use these techniques to hide or disguise skin or face shape etc. Having bad skin, or facial feature can make you lose your self confidence.

I just remember how awful it feels when you have bad skin. I've helped lots of people who are unhappy because of how they look or perceived by others. Don't get me wrong I love Wayne, I took his video's to college years ago when I did my beautician qualifications.. because he is better than my teacher.

I understand you... During my teenage years, I always dreamt of having beautiful clean skin one day, because mine always looked oily and red. I'm pretty sure I would have had more self confidence if my skin would have been better.
Now I still have 'oily skin', but overall my skin has become really clean =)
I love Wayne too. He's the only makeup artist I truly trust and I just love his personality and humor =)
