A pair of tornadoes sped through suburban Elgin during the afternoon of July 12th, 2023.

For anyone in Elgin or south Elgin, this looks like the intersection on Randall road where Portillo’s is. Menards is accross the street which is what we are seeing at the end of the video. Menards and Wendy’s on one side, Portillo’s and wal mart on the other. Damage was done to the houses right behind the pizza place in the Portillo’s side. Looks like a few tornadoes spawned right here.
I live right there in Bartlett and got a pic of the same rainbows!!

The last time Elgin was hit by tornadoes to my knowledge was in 1954 and the Palm Sunday tornado outbreak of 1920. Usually most tornadoes that do occur around Chicagoland typically happen in the Southwest Suburbs,usually in or near Joliet or elsewhere around Will County.
Same. Elgin gets hit by a tornado, usually in more rural parts, every few years.
During the April 1967 outbreak a F-2 briefly
touched down near the Elgin State Hospital across from the DMV on Rt 31.
@@jogman262 Forgot about that one. It was largely overshadowed by the tornadoes that struck Belvidere and Oak Lawn that same day.
@@marquesdean5075 Yes, many tornadoes that day. I was 7 years old living in Dundee and will never forget the sky turning green. Another large one struck Lake Zurich too. Unforgettable day.

I move from right there out to the country thinking I will get to see more severe weather and boom it hits right where I used to live. Thank goodness everyone is okay but damn..
I am always so shocked to see people still riding along their merry way. I would assume the bad weather happens so quickly they don’t have time to avoid it. That and how could they avoid something so unpredictable.
I’m sure there are those who just aren’t scared enough to stay away. Both very Fascinating none the less.

so weird, was bright and sun shiney by me when we heard the sirens, went into the basement just in case. Didn't take it seriously until my sister called said she'd seen it on the ground.
