Maximum Armor Skills on an Atlas AS7-S - Mechwarrior Online The Daily Dose

- Опубліковано 22 вер 2024
- The new Skill Tree System has been released. TIme to try some iconic builds andoptimize them with the new possibilities.
For This video I took the Atlas AS7-S. This loadout has always been a high alpha strike, high cooldown but high armor build. You can soak up a lot of damage and are devastating at close range. My goal here is to push the durability to maximum level and therefore I took the almost all the skill points of the armor skill tree. Also the engine decoupling came with the current patch, which means that your acceleration, deceleration and twist speed are now bound to the chassis and not the the engine rating anymore. Therfore I took all the mobility skills to make the Atlas reasonably mmobile.
The playstyle of this build is very aggressive, however you are not the main damage dealer. Your job is to absorb all the incoming damage to open some space for your team to focus on the enemy and take them down one by one. This build basically plays like a classic tank class in MMORPGs.

What went through my head at 15:49 where you ran up behind that Mad Dog was a clip from Super Troopers..."Bend over and touch your toes, I'm going to show you where the wild goose goes!"
..."MMMmmm I'm gonna butter yo bread."
Don't let the Twitch hate get ya down. It's a solid platform for streaming and I think it'll do ya well.
in my case i had lots of problems to see the stream. i tried to refresh the browser but still couldnt see it.
Twitch feels terribly implemented. Always slow, sluggish, stuttering and very memory-hungry. I much prefer UA-cam streaming, smooth and problem-free.
Anecdotal, but I've never had any problem viewing Twitch streams. Obviously I can only speak for me, and not anyone else.
Of course, neither do I.
It works OK for me, but generally it's quite uncomfortable. As I said, sluggish, but works eventually.
twitch is actually a horrible platform...
For the first couple of weeks I'd appreciate it if you spent a little more time on your build so that I can get a feel for what skills you chose and why. Also I'd like some more videos where you revisit old builds with the new skills so that I can do some more comparisons.
As an aside I just recently got into Mechwarrior and your videos are really helping me bridge the gap between being a new player and a better one and I'd like to thank you for that.
Great video, I like the way you handled the skill tree explanation & your Atlas is a monster!! I'm really enjoying the new skill tree, mechs are slower & can't fire as often or as far without specific investment. Radar deprivation, seismic sensor & ECM are also much less powerful. There are some balance issues for sure but give it a chance guys, we are on the right track with this one
A few reccomendations:
- use AMS (when you are targeted you will get lurmz and so its makes you even more durabile)
- AMS Skill nodes (you can avoid shock absorbance and makes you even more tanky)
- to bump up your damage output i would focus on the srm skill nodes. I know damage is not the main agenda here, but some good shots to the oponents chest is always a good idea. You dont need the range nor the velocity
- bigger engine to engage faster. 350 is good. so drop the medium lasers.
Those tanks where intense, good matches. Also great build-tutorial once again. when you pushed that timberwolf while having to check your flank was the best part imo.
Awesome job with the build, especially with the skill tree. I think it would be really insightful (and frankly, quite useful hehe) to have a series of videos on what would be your choices for skill tree-ing according to both mech sizes and roles. Or maybe if there are the general "must-have" skill tree nodes that you would consider pretty much applying on most (if not all) of your mechs.
I just noticed that Brios was on your team for the second game. A good communicator. I have played with him many times👍🏻
Interesting build, first few things i noticed is if you switch to a few srm4's you would have better heat and less ammo shortages, The med lazers in the ct would make it zombie which is this mechs strongest advantage vs other atlas.
thank the father of the Clans for your Atlas!
This video is a milestone for Baradul Twitch career and you called it right about UA-cam becoming shit for revenue.
Baradul, I subscribe to you here and I followed you on Twitch. You do what's best for you, as long as your content is consistent your fans will be there.
With the lack of radar derp on the field now missiles are a real threat, might also give people a reason to finally bring AMS.
I've found the weapon tree to be pretty pointless. You can get all the speed tweaks (and on the way get enough twisting/turning improvements), max out the armor/structure, and get three consumables, and max out the cool run/heat containment. With your remaining points you can either take a nick in the sensor tree or take a small nick into the weapon tree for some cooldowns and heat reduction.
Excellent drop shot there mate! I am liking this new skill tree, just wish I had more time in my day :P
Also, do you own a pet bird, or maybe birds outside? I could hear them in the background :)
does the Atlas still has it's previous structure buffs as well as the added skill structure?
and I think the Archer with its new closed doors damage reduction is the new tank mech. Man, a couple of those on quickplay took effin' forever to kill last night.
Since you are spending more time explaining the build at the beginning, I would suggest putting a link/annotation that leads right to the beginning of the match.
Baradul, personally I'm a huge fan of you streaming in Twitch while still uploading Daily Doses on UA-cam :)
Great DD! You may want to avoid phrases like "I like big ones" and "I like to get intimate;" at least in such close proximity like you did at the beginning of the second game. I will give TWITCH a try!!!!!
I would swap the 2xML for 1xLL to have something to do on long walks. The medium lasers don't really work well anyway with the punch/twist combo weapons.
Love your commentary and great gameplay...!
Background birdsong is cool :)
2pm in Berlin makes it 5am here in Tucson, Arizona. How long will your streams be? Maybe I can catch the tail end in the morning.
when i watched on monday it was about 3 hours, maybe a bit more if i remember correctly
it was fun dropping with you moltenmetal/baradul
9:35 If you didn't have shock absorbance you might of died making that drop shot!
I have a questiin that which atlas is better? As7 d dc or as7 s?? I know d dc is with ecm and as7 is with more firepower. Which is is stronger??
I have an Awesome with quad large pulse and a small laser. Using the new skill system, I have ridiculously low heat gen(all nodes), high heat dissipation, high armor/structure...actually worked out very good. 60KPH, though (no speed nodes).
love it. will definitely be bring my atlas' out more
The post skill tree atlas is just so much slower than before. It may get more armor and structure, but it moves like a slug now and has lost a lot of its brawling capability because of the change. It's hard to get into firing range without losing too much armor, and it's hard to stay relevant in the fight during a push because of the poor acceleration.
From what I've seen it has the base agility of what would previously be about a 300 engine, but the One True Atlas build needed to run a 350 to be able to twist, turn, accelerate, and decelerate during a brawl to really be a terror. Now it's just a brick that takes a year to get to top speed. Even the mobility tree doesn't bring it back to that.
Then put more into mobility. Truth be told the changes affect all. Too keep the same speed buffs mechs must forgo those which help them survive or output damage. Everyone is in the same boat.
I skipped out on a few skeleton nodes. I felt that i'm already screwed with my armor gone anyways.
Would love to know if there was an enemy behind you in the second game, cos you got hit in the back sooooo many times
I have a slight correction you get 2 module slots for free at did not change you have 3 +1 consumable slot skills for 5 total slots.
What time is that in UTC?
Oh cool! I was in that second game (in the linebacker) I managed to get a headshot on that mad iic. Good times
How are you able to use 94/237 Skill Points? I thought the max was 91? (05:04)
The UI is a bit misleading. On this Mech I have 94 skill points "unlocked". That means I have paid for 94 with C-Bills already and I can redistribute amongst these with only XP now. However, I am only using 91, which is indicated by the golden "mastery" shield next to the "Skill Nodes" label. Hope that helps...
I understand your point of trying new things, im talking about Twitch btw, and i want to encourage you to do it! Just do it! Your progress is going to be assured!
Cheers!
streaming on twitch is fine. hmmm skill tree explanation is somewhat lengthy not sure how to integrate it well or shorten it.
Great games as usual Baradul. As far as the Twitch thing, do what you think is right. As for me I'm going to try and figure out this skill tree on my Centurions.
I personally have an STD340 and more ammo, so I can take (seismic) sensors and SRM spread nodes.
The problem is soaking damage is not rewarded in the currrent game only damaging opponents
particular reason why you shoot ur srms out of range with ur ac20 all the time?
Not all the time. I hit some of them.
Missiles, you say? I'm so going to take my LRM60 Cyclops 10-Q out of the garage! It always worked great, and if now it's even better I can't miss that opportunity.
Isn't AS7-D actually better as a tank then any other Atlas variant?
I think it is a little hilarious that you´ll get 7 HP in the sidetorsos and 11 HP in the center when you max out the whole Amor-Tree for the Atlas.
That means you get one Laser hit more to your survivability in excange to 33 Skillnodes.
Yes, there are other skills too, but it is an assault !!! And you´ll get additional 40 HP spread over your entire mech.
Not even a single PPC-hit in the sidetorso.....
Sure that those numbers are not the mechs basic quirks ? Not sure if the Bonus from the Skilltree is visible on the Paperdoll at all. Have to say that I was not able to play since Patch, so I might be a bit misinformed.
I think the same thing. Right now I'm liking mobility, weapons, mech operations, ammo, and sensors as a second line mech.
My favorite mech is a King Crab, so I'm used to lasting 3 seconds as the tank instead of the Atlas' 5 second tank.
I think the front line tanking Atlas buys you two rounds rounds of fire. The King Crab buys you one. Strangely, I see good locust pilots last longer on the front line. A missed shot on light armor is better than a landed one on assault armor. Anyone else have the same experience?
While armour is improved a bit with the nodes, it's structure that the Atlas has in spades. Stock CT with quirks is I think 89 structure and 124 armour and STs are 66 structure and 84 armour. With the 32 points he spent in the survival skill tree Baradul's Atlas has 111 structure and 136 armour in the CT, and 83 structure and 92 armour for the STs. So instead of being able to soak up 513 damage with the Atlas' torsos he can now soak up 597 damage, an 84 damage increase (34 in the CT, 25 in each ST). That is also in addition to the -7% crit chance he gets with his 32 nodes. You still have to torso twist though, which is why Baradul took the mobility tree. If you didn't have enough nodes to max out the survival tree you can spend around 19 and get all but one of the structure nodes; I did something similar but with the armour nodes for my Bushwacker (which now has the armour of a 75 ton mech, but the structure of a 55 ton mech).
Ha! played a tank in WoW also. Tanking
That team backstabbing
I don't know why people are saying that streaming on Twitch is a bad move! I think if it generates more funds for you then that is a good thing 🙂
"I want to get shot at." - Molten 2017
Can anyone tell me what the warning exclamation marks are in the top corner. Do they mean they are not relevant somehow?
PPC4 for the JJs it is because he has none, Amber ones mean it isn't on the build
I get it in the sensors tree?
Hey can you do a spirit bear daily dose?
I have a build suggestion if you are up for it. The Spirit bear is my favorite mech and I would love to see you pilot it
making the atlas fill at least half its role, but still nice durability
Baradul I'm following you on twitch now. Happy Broadcasting o>
They should give you c-bills for tanking
I've always wondered why your med lasers are not on the CT for zombie purposes. ^_^
Easier to aim for UAVs, which is nice.
True. But then again shooting down UAVs is not really his role. The zombie ability seems to be a better choice for me. :)
I stopped using radar dep cuz it felt like a crutch and I've definently benefitted from it XD
como nos han colado el skill tree :[
Hey Baradul, since you made your Atlas tanky and noticed the new strenght of LRMs ..... what's worg with AMS? Of course under the old system only few specialised mechs would sacrifice a module slot for ams overload. But now it's only 2 skill nodes. See that Atlas at 15:27 ? He gets me. Each missile shot down is an armor plate saved!
YouToob & Twitch are about the same pieces of pig vomit. If you want some money get a real job. Oh wait... they ran out of those, right?
don't mind you streaming on twitch. I just can't watch live there. might be able to watch the videos after if you have it set to be able to do so
rurikk09 why tho ?
cause I'm on cell tower networks for Internet services. and twitch is rather data hungry. UA-cam is data hungry also but not to the extent of twitch. testing I have done one hour stream on UA-cam uses roughly 800 megs of data. on twitch that same hour uses nearly triple that
Special guest star appearance by a black bird
i tried to play the atlas but it isnt worth it. In most maps you dont even get the chance to get close to the enemy, and by the time you get there the armor is already gone so what is the point, rip IS assaults.... Please try to think that the norm is not to have a team to back you up... very few people get this luxary. Most people play alone or in groups of 2 - 3 where speed is key to stay alive (not armor)
Both games were solo quickplay games. Communication is the key here. Announce your plan beforehand and give pricise orders when you are in the fight. What I usually do is saying "I am in an Atlas and I gladly play the meat shield for you. I'll tank, you kill!" It also helps motivating the team by calling out targets for them to kill.
When Iplayed my Atlas D-DC, I discoverd that yeah Im running 49kph now since I don't run speed tweak. but the immense armor and structural quirks let me stay in longer. I was a late comer to the battle but that gave me the ability to lead a late push and lead the team to victory. I went down , but that is the role of the Atlas. Meat Shield. and when your other faster assaults are already chewed up you can be a fresh body reinforcement.
BINGO, communication is key.
Assaults are one of two things.
Either they are there to attract the attention of the enemy line, hopefully lasting long enough to allow faster heavies and mediums to engage from a beneficial position. This sees them generally dying fast and uselessly if the team is not coordinated to capitalize on the play.
or
They are the devastating second wave. Heavies and mediums begin the serious engagement and the assaults plan their approach for maximum shock and awe. This is the Atlas exiting the side tunnel in Crimson Straight while the team is engaged to begin disintegrating unsuspecting mechs with 80+ point alphas. This requires serious patience and a team which can hold the engagement while you move into position.
In the twitch video you said "Change is progress and those who can't adapt they're the weak ones."
I'd just like to say that change isn't always progress and in the case of the ST (skilltree) it is regression not progression IMO. Sure, you can get the same skill or even a buff in some areas to your mech's capabilities but there are simply not enough points to make your mech perform comparable to what it used to in all areas and it feels horrible. It almost always performs much more poorly. Sure, I could adapt and try this nonsense out but the fun factor has died. No more can you easily change the loadout on your mech without being severely penalized, no more can beginners have a chance against the veterans with skilled-out mechs (it was bad before but it is worse now). No more can a medium mech without all the armor hardening expect to last very long at all, in fact any laser vomit clan mech can two-shot any medium without any problems. If you get caught out in the open with any mech now, you're probably going to die much sooner than before, where agility, torso-twisting and good acceleration would get your away from the threat. That part of the game is over. Basically hide in cover and PPC/Gauss your enemies to death. Oh, and lrms....more on that in a min. So, the fun factor is basically over, there is no skill required any longer.
But, it makes the mechs feel like what a mech is supposed to feel like you say. I'm not going to point out the obvious about how mechs don't exist but I will say that I was happy with the gameplay and feel on the mechs before the patch. "Why fix something if it ain't broke?" is something I've heard most of my life and it applies to this latest attempt by PGI to bring "balance" to the game. Firstly, the balance is much worse off now especially for the IS mechs. Secondly LRM's are becoming much more of a nuisance because of the lrm buffs and ability of people to carry two UAV's. When you look up at the sky; it is literally littered with them on the battlefield now as well as hundreds upon hundreds of lrms. And lastly, lights can mess up heavies and assaults with impunity now because of their sluggishness. The balance is being thrown out the window.
I'm sure there are more points I've missed but in the end it is just another c-bill sink designed to keep us from actually buying mechs in a decent amount of time from the c-bills earned during the matches. Now most of your c-bills go to making your mech not sux as bad. It will keep people from buying new mech pack much more than before IMO. PGI, stop being greedy please!
If a game does not have a fun factor or looses it like MWO just did then what's the point in playing it? There are many more games out there that are actually fun and fair (as well as have modern game engines and are visually impressive). The only reason I could see to stay with MWO is because of the time and monetary investments we've made thus far. This is probably the part that pisses me off the most because everything I've earned and paid for is instantly crap! I could change over everything to guass/ppc and lrm boats but I absolutely hate that kind of gameplay. The game is now exclusively for cowards who like this game style (not sorry if I hurt your feelings)!
Maybe I'll check back in 3-4 months to see if PGI has realized the error of their ways and try it again. Try adding about 35-45 more SP's and it might actually be playable again.
What you did with that Atlas is definitely out of the norm and probably will only work in open pug que about 30% of the time. Most of the time because of the ST patch; your team is long ranged only and won't push with you so that you will die much more quickly.
rom wyzard Git gud
A few things i think you are dismissing, One mech can now be fully mastered with out the need to buy 2 more chassi. The maximum values are lower but you can choose which ones you want/need which is customization something warrior should be good at. And to top it all off we don't need to buy modules which lowers the barrier of entry to competitive play. That is not to say the issues you present are any less relevant i'm just trying to point out the positives.
a jenner 2c trolling with 6 srm 6 will make your day miserable if it gets behind ya
Or you can just get AMS.
Which has always worked.
Four mechs next to each other with an unbonused AMS will eliminate 20-40 lrms depending on the angle/cover.
UNBONUSED.
This is an example of what I was concerned about, since they haven't removed the quirks from the IS mechs (mostly) the skill tree magnifies the effects of +X as they are percentages.
Great video, as always, but the reason I started watching was, I wanted advanced zoom for my Urbanmech, I was patiently saving up GXP to get one, and now I can't find it anywhere! Can you help a noob out, please?
Fierfek1972 its in the sensor tree
Thanks, I'll have a look, for some reason I've just been given nearly fifty thousand GXP, so I can finally afford it!!
Thanks, I found it, eventually, but even though it's unlocked, it doesn't work, I don't get the picture-in-picture view at all, or any noticeable extra zoom, and there's no option to install it in the Mechlab. I must be missing something, but as usual, the UI is of no help at all!
Make sure that its equipped to your chassis, even if its unlocked it might not be equipped to your mech. Also check that you have a button assigned to it. Once you have it unlocked and equipped there is no installation of a module and it should work as intended
Thanks, but the only mention I can find of it anywhere is in the skill tree, there's nothing in the Mechlab at all, perhaps it's no longer available for the Urbie? MWO really does need to improve its UI to a more understandable format!
...."360 drop shot" lol what is this COD with big ass mechs now hahaha. great games
And no scope, mind you :)
NO! It is “Hello mech warriors”.
great vid but i still cringe wen ever i se ammo in the legs. xD
Your channel and life man, if you wanna get a little Twittchy -do as you please.
scary game
wrong atlas, the others have almost 20 more base armor because of quirks, ecm isnt worth that in my opinion
Awe :( no Javelin...
Can you get a refund for accidentially bought SPs? Or shovel them over to another Mech?
"I LIKE BIG ONES! I LIKE GETTING INTIMATE!" Lol dude my gf and I both laughed cause we're like 5 year olds ^_- steph says "That's what she said!"
People will hate for anything nowadays smh
*push*
hey ma im famous!
OMG
You soaked up the damage and carried the team for a win. Great! But you got shit for it. Not a lot of cbills, not a lot of xp. I don't really think it's possible to fix that, but it's a really annoying part about MWO.
Yah! ATLAS! FINALLY! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA
Use twitch for streaming. It's much better for those trying to make a living! UA-cam is kinda... becoming something not content creator friendly.
twitch sucks, bad quality with awful ads never gonna watch on that.
Before I watch, I just wanted to say that I think the new skill tree is awful tangled. I don't know why it notifies me that I have skills active that aren't viable to my mech when I had to activate them to unlock the ones that I wanted. Also, the active node limit bothers me greatly. I don't know why we can't just unlock every possible skill if we have enough resources to do so. It's not like it's unfair if everyone could do that. It wouldn't be so much of a problem if the skill tree didn't force you to unlock skills that you can't use or don't want. As the skill tree is now, it makes me feel more limited than the one before.
ShadowCatGambit I have to disagree with you the whole point of this skill tree is to have more variety in builds. You could have the same load out as someone else but he could be more tanks or have a faster rate of fire. You have way more choice than before, you have 91 choices instead of 12 mandatory skills you had to get.
"Mandatory" is exactly what I don't like. I have to waste active nodes to unlock the skills I want, when I can only use 91 out of 237, and I have to unlock certain things that I can't use or don't want, to unlock the precious things I do want, and it just makes me feel unsatisfied. The process of getting new skills is tougher with the new skill tree, and I think being able to use all 237 active nodes to unlock everything would make a great feeling of reward. I just think it takes up too many resources to experiment with and caps the potential too low in order to be a good system.
Then why do you like the old system so much you HAD to get the 8 basics to get the elites which you HAD to get to get the extra module slot. With this is system I have only had to spend one or two points on skills that had no effect on my build. Even the crit chance skills in the survival tree are useful. Each skill node is a choice and if you like choice then you should love this skill tree.
With the old system, you could max out your mech skills and feel satisfied by unlocking 100% percent everything that was available. Yes, buying three variants to get everything unlocked was a tough and expensive grind, but it also provided an opportunity to learn more about how effective certain things about each mech variant are. Yeah, modules were limited by module slots, but they unlocked powerful abilities that you could choose freely, as long as you earned enough C-bills or MC and had unused slots. Yes you had to get the 8 basics before unlocking elite and had to unlock all the elite skills to unlock master skills, but once you unlocked them, they were there permanently, and you never needed to worry about choosing which skills you wanted. Imagine the old system if you wanted to get speed tweak, but you had to give up 4 basic skills and 2 elite skills in order to get it. That's essentially how I feel about the new system. Don't get me wrong, if there was no cap on how many active nodes I could use, I would not care about how the points are structured, nor would I dislike the new skill tree at all (it would be superior); however, no matter how much I grind on any of my mechs, I will never again be able to feel that they are working at 100%, because there are 146 nodes for each mech that I can never use (at the same time), and among the 91 I can use, several are wasted in order to get the abilities that I want.
So you are good at getting beaten? Does your wife know about that masochistic streak?
Not that i criticize you for having it.
As long as we know what UTC timezone you are in this website is best for changing timezones everytimezone.com/
Also tho the firepower is less because of the base armour quirks the AS7-Ds are so so tanky right now.
The rear shots in that last game were from that Marauder Echo that you ignored, your team mates were also ignoring him it seems.
