That oil light is on that you discussed in middle video. I believe I need to replace that. I did have the tube replaced about 5 yrs ago. Spot on with all the issues. The 1st generation boots and plugs were not so good either. The coolant would get on the number 4 and blow it out, often. I’m the only owner and have over 300,000 miles on the Ole Gal, she has served me well. She’s gonna get a makeover and refresher as you discussed in the video, under the hood. Thank you.

    Long post ahead..
Good video. I have a 99 4x4 Navigator and I am the 3rd owner. The 2nd owners used it for boat towing and as it started aging it seems they didn't care and just parked it a good year or so before they traded it. That's where I come in, got it from some vehicle flipper fresh from auction. In the near 5 years I've had it the only problem out of this list I've encountered was that $#@#& coolant line under the intake. Now it may seem hard to believe but I did NOT have to take the top part of the motor off to replace it. I am not sure why you said the intakes have to come off to replace that line. I did have to pull the alternator though which was no biggie as the one it had (it's ORIGINAL alternator) was finally beginning to die so I replaced it while I replaced that annoying coolant line. Now that being said I have had to play maintenance catch-up on all the little things that just broke down over the years that the previous owners ignored. The liftgate cables, the rear window washer line, the wiper motor back there as well, the subwoofer and CD turntable, a few vacuum leaks, right back door lock mechanism, recharge AC, full plugs and coil packs replacement etc. The air ride was in wonky shape when I got it, the back has been deleted but the front had not but it was locked up. It made for one weird riding Lincoln. One of the biggest things I've had to deal with so far was the entire rear brake system from being in and out of the water so much at high temps was horrific. I gutted a first gen expedition and replaced everything in the rear. The emergency brake system also came apart and that still needs to be addressed. Through it all though, the body is perfect and the DOHC is pristine. I stole it for a few hundred (fair but under a grand) and it's been worth every penny I've put in it (oh yea, fuel pump, tranny linkage, gotta deal with a temperamental steering column as I ponder whether to repair or replace) and the huge job Im doing on it now. The original thermostat blew (finally lol !!) And the bolts froze in the housing and one snapped..found a replacement lower intake and am tearing the upper end apart to fix that. Your video on the EGR valve replacement was really appreciated! Since I'm having to tear all this out I'm replacing every sensor and bit along the way. I don't want to get this far into the motor again until it's time to change that bloody timing chain. (And it's 5k past the TSB recommendation on mileage when to change it...). I know it sounds like I got a POS but I truly didn't..it's suffering from lack of maintenance and sitting in the Florida sun for at least a year. It purrs like a kitten and all the things I've done to it so far have gotten my gas mileage from the 8.1 it was when I bought it to 12.3 so far so it's getting there. So again, I appreciate your vids on the first gen Navigators!! Thanks! I love my Navigator and planning keeping it as long as possible.

The intake most definitely does NOT have to come off to fix the coolant leak. You just have to take the alternator out and it’s right behind it.

These also have issues with the blend door actuator for the heat. My dad had this happen and the temperature wouldn't go to warm. It's a common issue. The fix is fairly cheap but it's a pain to get to.

I have a first generation Lincoln Navigator 2001. I love this video for the fact that it brings up all the problems I’ve encountered with my suv. I do have a question that I hope you can soon answer. I’m dealing with the engine rattling after having all the coils replaced. It’s been about 2 - 3 months since having them replaced. So went to do an inspection of the mechanics work and found the ( I believe it’s called the EGR ) had been disconnected from the hoses because they had been broken off. So i replace the egr myself but that didn’t help. How do I find where exactly the problem is coming from. Thank you for your time and informative video.

I really love your effort to provide information about old cars. In reference, I have a 2001 Lincoln Navigator with no crank no start, also the dashboard has no electricity. In the starter relay has a blue wire that has no power also follow by an orange wire down the line. What should I do?

    Great information.
I am having an issue similar to #3 in my 2003 Jeep Liberty.
I am losing coolant with every drive, but the radiator, fan, and hoses are all new. I also have a small oil leak. Does anyone know what part I should look into?
    Thanks

I own one of these money pits. Ford did an awesome job at robbing people by selling them this Luxury tank. The problem that has torn me apart is the A/C. The SUV has a common A/C problem where it blows uncooled air from defrost. This is where Ford comes in. The three components that could reproduce this issue are not worth anyone's time or frustration to reach. The Blendoor actuator was not the culprit come to find out, but I did have to remove the front center console entirely to find this out. I then decided to replace the next easiest component. The EATC, this requires you perchase a replacement and remove your stereo dash covering. THIS was also not the culprit...So now... I have to take my entire dash apart to replace the blend door. The only way around this is to use a dremel to cut through the air box. Bypass the dash removal and just patch the cut later. what a disaster. The sunroof also broke. The vent window actuator broke (and they aren't easy to find). I'm convinced any of these left over are all converted to spring suspension since their air suspension system was aweful and leaked a ton.
