  • Presented by Greg Paige, Director of Horticulture, JC Raulston Arboretum on October 3, 2023.
Have you heard someone say that conifers are amongst the easiest plants to grow? Or that the only trouble-free gardening is with dwarf conifers? Is it true? Join us for this Plant-lover's Tour as Greg Paige, our Director of Horticulture, confers on conifers and shows our amazing collection with its wide array of textures, sizes, shapes, and colors.
The JCRA does Plant-lover's tours like this on the first Tuesday of every month. Be sure to check out our event calendar so you can join us for the next one! jcra.ncsu.edu/events/calendar...
This program was originally presented live and in-person.

'Maymont Gold' is a rename of the old British 'Aurea' from Young's Nursery. Biltmore and a bunch of other east coast nurseries sold it 1900-1920's and for some silly reason one guy did not know this and thought it needed a new name. It didn't needa new name but it's still a really good, colorful plant. The Maymont 'Aurea' is located in the Italian Garden in Richmond. Best example of 'Aurea' in the US.

Very interesting, and good information. I have a 30-40 foot bald cypress tree in my yard love it(zone5 central Indiana)

A friend recently bought an old home and there are several gorgeous, mature trees in the yard. One of them is a larch! It immediately caught my eye, and I wished it was in my yard 😅 We planted a bald cypress in the woods, near a spring, and can’t wait for it to take off.

I'd be curious to hear if there are any updates on the availability of the dwarf pinus taeda 'JC Raulston' from plant nurseries. From some internet searches it seems that they might have been intermittently available from the now-defunct Yucca Do plant nursery.

Tim said the cones on the monkey puzzle tree will not have seed in them because there is no male around...

Pretty cool, eh? Awesome cones with great ornamental value, and absolutely no potential for weediness!

This video is not working my end. All I am getting is a buffering wheel spinning and video not playing at all.
