- The Lycian Way Trail, Turkey. One of the best hikes on earth.
The Lycian Way in Turkey is often named among the best and most beautiful hikes on planet earth. It stretches 540km's from Fethiye, around the Mediterranean coast, to Antalya. We hiked along this incredible route from its start near the famous beach of Oludeniz (Blue Lagoon) to Faralya or Butterfly Valley. From breathtaking views to stunning wildlife, this gorgeous walk is one of the most unique experiences we have had on our travels.
The concept of this video is slightly different to anything else on our channel, it was something we absolutely loved filming and are really proud of. Let us know what you thought down below and leave a like if you enjoyed it!

JUST SUBSCRIBED BRO!!!WHAT A TRAIL!!!WHAT A HIKE!!!👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you so much, really appreciate it 🙏☺️
Im Turkish, beside the beautiful view of Oludeniz and the surrounding mountains, you should go to the ancient city of Termessos in Antalya what a beautiful amphitheater they have stunning view
I really liked it 😊 I felt like I was back home in Greece going on a hike up in the mountains Wich I used to do a lot before I immigrated to Canada .
Which part of Greece are you originally from? 😊❤️
Iam from Kefalonia . It's an island on the west coast .
EXCELLENT! That's your best video yet, in my humble opinion. You earned my subscription w/ that one. Now I'm curious to see how far you two will take it... making UA-cam vids and all. Keep up the good work! I especially liked when you walked up to the edge of Butterfly Valley, and then edited to the drone shot. That was a great transition. That's a lot of walking though. Rest up! Gonna have sore legs in the morning.
Thank you so much Chris, and thanks for the sub! 🙏 We are determined to continue doing this for a long time 🙌 It was defi twly a lot of walking, the first time we've ever broken the 30km barrier 😃
@@MattandJulia In that case I'm glad that I got to witness your longest walk ever. Now I'm tempted to see if I can walk 30 km. I have a video idea for you guys in the future. Kate Clow breaks the trail up into 30 days. You could hike the trail and make a short 5 minute video at the end of each day and a longer more holistic video at the end. I only hiked once from Kabak Koyu to Alanca. However in Alanca I stayed at a cheap hostel, dinner & breakfast included, and they had WiFi. I imagine it's that way for a lot of the trail. Ironically enough, Kate Clow had stayed at that same hostel the night before. The trail would end in Antalya, which is a pretty incredible place.
If you guys will be back in Izmir before you leave, I'm currently staying in Karşıyaka. In Karşıyaka you can make a quick walk to the top of this hill, which would be good for an opening shot and a drone shot of the area. It would have to be early morning on a nice day, because it gets quite hazy pretty quickly. Also, I ended up trying those 'bomba' deserts because of you guys.... So good! Last but not least, for future inspiration, take a look at Trout & Coffee youtube page, for his style where he does a voice-over at the end to tell a story.
nice video , lot of work to film this . i love when you talk also o)
Thank you so much Stephane! Yeah it is definitely a lot of work trying to get enough variety in shots to keep people interested😊 glad you like both 😀x

WHAT A LOVELY VIEW
Ahhh these mountains were breathtaking 😍⛰️
hey guys
I have been planning a trip to turkey and came to know about the lacian way and ended up watching this beautiful concept video of yours, which is really inspiring. i wanted to know which part of the trial you guys have covered also and other part of the trail that your would suggest :)
Loved your latest video. You are both certainly serious hikers. Here's another long hike that can be done. The Appalachian Trail runs 2190 miles from Maine to Georgia. I tried to paste the map but it didn't work.
Hope you will stay in Turkey as long as possible. It is a country I am keenly interested in visiting once travel becomes more normal again.
Thanks so much Dennis, really glad you enjoyed it 😊
Until recently we didn't know how much we enjoyed hiking but we have certainly stumbled upon a bit of a passion 😊
Wow! Now that is a long hike!! Sounds like a challenge 😏 Have you done any of it?
We are here for another few weeks for certain before we move on 😊
@@MattandJulia No, I have not done it, more of an interest in international travel.

Hi, great video. Which section of the trial was the most scenic and beautiful?
In a short trip, is it worth going to Antalia or already staying in Fethyie? I say for those who like nature walks more than in the city. Apparently you can make butterfly valey and oludeniz on the same day
Hi Priscilla, depends how long your short trip is, if like one week and you prefer nature, head straight to Fethiye if you have a couple then maybe a few days in Antalya would give you something a bit different 😊 Butterfly Valley can be reached by boat from Oludeniz in about 1/2 hour 😊x
All of one day out of 30! So when are you going to do the other 29? Seriously, enjoyed it a lot and wish I could have shared the beer at the end. all best Kate Clow.
Hi Kate! 😊 So glad you enjoyed it!! The other 29 are on the bucket list for sure, join us? 😀
Great video. Did you need a map or was the trail signage very straight forward and clearly marked? Cheers
Great video i just returned from Chalis neat Fethiye, lovely time. How do you charge your batteries for the camera etc? Solar or just stops on the way?
My favorite! QUESTION: Were you wearing the correct shoes for such a rocky hike?
Definitely not! Haha, only trainers 😅❤️
Cool video! I did not know that there are such trekking routes in Turkey. I absolutely have to go there. Unfortunately, my wife is afraid of Turkey. Can you tell us what it was like from a woman's point of view?
I returned from Lycian way a few days ago. The hills were cool even in August. I visited about ten antique cities and skipped at least that many. I wish this video showed some of the antique cities. Lycian way has the highest density of antique cities on the planet. They were built by Luwi (Luka) people - relatives of Hittites. This is on top of the natural beauty of the trails whose westernmost 50 km section is in this video, whereas Lycian way is longer than 400 kms.
There are some incredible ruins and history, we can’t wait to return to homie the entire thing! Unfortunately we only had one day at that time 😣 x
Hope you had an amazing time!
I really enjoyed the video - I really did have the feeling of being out there hiking! Do you guys have a map of the exact part of the path you did? Great video!
Thanks so much Christine! So we are in the process of writing a full Turkey travel guide where we will put everything like that in there. But basically we went to the start point of the Lycian Way in Ovacik (Olüdeniz) and hiked to Faralya (Butterfly Valley). We also use a map app called Maps.Me - it has nearly every trail in the area on it ☺️ Hope this helps! ❤️
@@MattandJulia Thank you!
Careful guys from the stones
The stones were actually really dodgy, we kept slipping over all day 😅
Naughty Julia in the last moment ☺️👍👍👍
Haha, that's me, always up to something 😃😂❤️
@@MattandJulia that's what i love about you ☺️☺️👍👍👍👍
hey! what is the current restrictions for tourists in and museums in turkey? we are supposed fly over in 5 days!!
Hello Craig,
So up until now everything for tourists has been open but, apparently after the 29th April Turkey is going in to a full lockdown and apparently this time tourists are included, I'm not 100% sure what this all means but check it out. There is a fb group we have found really helpful called DOC MARTINS SURGERY FOR EXPATS IN TURKEY. Hope this helps, good luck x
@@MattandJulia Some how I guess you can’t ask questions in that FB group. We just talked with our group - none of us have read that tourism has been included. We are still planning on going right now. But will check as we get closer. UGHHHH Let me know if you hear anything official.
How very different but a nice change of pace. I did like it but I missed hearing your commentary as well. Have you ever actually walked off quite a ways and had to backtrack for your camera?
Thank you Pat! Glad you enjoyed it 😊
Yes this day literally spent all day backtracking for the camera 😀 I'm sure we walked an extra 2/3 miles only becuase of that 😅
Great video. What month did you do the hike?
This was late March :)
how long you guys will been in turkey?
We are here for another few weeks before we head to our next country 😊
Hi Matt. I had some questions regarding the trek. Are you active on youtube to respond?
Sure 🙂
From Olundez beach to ur room

25 lira for about 5 kms expensive but we could walk anymore by then 😂
@@MattandJulia well that's nice u got the taxi in the end bec it was tough to walk long way full day bro
