What a delightful surprise to see this walking trip appear in my feed. Back in March of 2011 I was all set to walk the Lycian Way (with a plane ticket, the specialized guide book and everything), when the Great East Japan Disaster hit, and my world turned upside down. I’ve been wanting to try again sometime, and this was a really nice visual introduction. Thank you for taking us along for another one of your great walks!

@@morgs4mountains I’m curious… You didn’t bring your solar panel on this trip? It seems like the perfect place for it… Were there enough places along the way to charge up your electronics? I know the Lycian Way is inhabited throughout the route (I guess the St. Paul Trail is wilder). Are there enough places along the way to keep your electronics topped up? Also, I read quite a few accounts that the route finding could be challenging at times, at least back in 2011. Did you find it so?
Yes, I did.bring it and used it at the wild camp spots. But, my wife needed her devices charging too and it appears that I have damaged my panels as it wasn't charging very quickly. I've noted some external damage to two of the three panels. When I get home I need to test what amps it's pushing out as I suspect it's only working at a third capacity. We camped 6 nights and also used pansyions. But one could also charge up devices at the mosques as all the mosques have bathrooms with plugs available. The route finding was in the main pretty straightforward. It's marked with red and white flashes as the GR routes in France and Spain are. It was not very often that I needed to check the app that we were using and when we discovered where we'd gone wrong we'd usually missed a cairn or a paint flash.

What a cracking adventure that looked. Some fabulous views and ruins to see. Have to say some of those trails high up looked a bit sketchy in places, seeing you scrambling down some of those rocks. It's amazing to think how old some of these aquaducts and things are and how they have managed to stay in place for so long. How do you come by these trails and when doing your homework for them do you buy trail books etc? Think I have said it before but you really do know how to stitch together these walks in post Dave, your b-roll never feels dull or uninteresting & your bits to camera are always informative and interesting. Oh ye, uphill and doing a piece to camera whilst walking, that's just showing off, lol. Loved the outro mate, class ending. atb Al
You're very kind to say such complimentary things Alan. I simply video scenes that I like and stitch things together as I go. I like to add people to the scenes to add context as it's a walking video.. Having Gill along this time meant less use of the mini tripod!! Gill and I knew of this trail as it's advertised by some of the outdoor adventure holiday companies who take people on sections of it. Gill was fired up having read the guidebook that we bought and so out we came. We knew that we didn't need to book anything and only reserved our hotel accommodation in Kalkan and Kas a day before arriving on each occasion. The trail is quite technical and has destroyed my trail shoes. I deliberately didn't wear expensive ones and a review will soon be coming on the shoes I wore. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Really useful video, I am looking to hike some of this route in October. There was a comment below about the route Pydnai Ruins and Patara. Is it difficult underfoot/ not very scenic/ or some other reason why not so good?
Hi Carolyn. Thanks for taking the time to comment on my video. The section between Pydnai and Patara is not very scenic. There are some nice things to see such as Letoon and Xanthos but there is a lot of tarmac walking and tomato greenhouses to walk past. I'm glad that we did it so that we have a continuous route as we intend continuing this year, but if you're short of time this might be a section to skip.
We planned no accommodation. There is so much available when we went in May that I wouldn't bother. There is always somewhere to stay whether you're camping or using pansyions. Many thanks for watching the video and taking the time to comment!

We used the Trailsmart App and it was very useful. Whilst the trail is well waymarked, there were some areas where the reassurance was provided by the navigational aspect of the App. You won't be disappointed when you visit. We loved the trail and are booked to go back next year to continue our adventure. Thanks for your lovely comment!

My rucksack went in the hold and my poles were in my rucksack. Because I carry items that are not allowed in the cabin, so I booked a hold bag. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Hi Andrew. No I don't. All the ground we used took pegs so I don't see that as an issue at all. Have a great trip. We're returning this May to continue our journey!
@@morgs4mountains I wanted to ask how you travel on an airline with your circuit. Are you able to carryon or do you check it? Do you feel that the carbon fiber frame is an issue in transit? Would you consider a smaller pack of 40 -50L for this trip or do you feel the circuit is the right size? What is your typical water carry on the trail?
@@andrewbrinkman5506I always check my back into the hold as I carry trekking poles. They wouldn't be allowed in the cabin nor my knife and scissors. I carry 2L of water usually and have the capacity to carry 4L in total. I like the size of my sack. I could get away with a smaller one but when I've done a resupply I've had the flexibility. For me it's about comfort and flexibility and I feel that for me I have a good balance.

Is it really only 10 days from Ovacik to Kars? Other information seems to suggest 14 days from Oludeniz to Kars, which is a significantly shorter distance, so I'm a bit confused now 😅 How long about do you reckon it should take an experienced, but unrushed hiker to walk from Oludeniz to Kars? Many thanks for commenting Pete. It's definitely only a maximum of 10 days. We really took it easy but are experienced backpackers. It could easily be done in 7 days with longer days. I think the guidebook is aimed at those who are not used to being on their feet all day. It's a tough route but very, very achievable in the time we took.

Some more wonderful locations and hiking. It did look very warm at times, a different set of challenges in that kind of heat.
We are very much enjoying this trail. We're now as far as Finike and we're looking forward to finishing it in 2024.
