That is similar to a steel rule my father had. Most have the common 1/2 1/4 1/8 1/16 fractions but his was for the printing industry that had "points" and other scales as well. It was related to font sizes but amazingly the size of fonts that we understand from our modern computer programs do not actually correspond.
