My generation was raised with Imperial before Oz went to Metric. Fractions was drummed into us at school from very young age along with every thing else. So I am lucky I understand both systems.
I’ve always been terrible with math and I don’t think any of my elementary teachers ever explained it that well. Thank you for helping this 66 year old get it through her head. 🙂
My teachers tried. It just didn't stick. Started scrapbooking @ 30 where I really needed to know. All of the tic marker yikes! Of course I knew the basics because of 💰. And following recipes. Thanks to my teachers for that. So grateful. Blessings
OMG Maymay OMG *tears* We do have something in common as ruler lines do the same thing to me and when I saw your big VISUAL it was an AHA moment.....because as you know......I AM a VISUAL LEARNER. Ya know I'm doing a Screen Shot of your BIG ruler with all the numbers and tacking it on my bulletin board. Girl YOU are a GREAT TEACHER!! Thanks always for all you do and the ways you do it!! YOU SO SO SO SO ROCK!! Joan Smith
Thank you so much Maymay! I am horrible at math and figuring out a ruler stresses me out. I'm going to reference this video a lot until it sticks in my brain. ❤️
I am not good at math but I was pretty good at fractions, so a ruler is easy for me. You did a great job explaining the tic marks, Maymay. Should make it much easier for those who struggle with it.
MEASURE MATH, LOVE IT! I have several types of rulers that markings are or look different and I didn't understand why. Visually this really helped. I think I can read any ruler now. Thanks for sharing.
Oh my gosh I finally get it “see it”, Thank you so much. I am starting a kitchen remodel on my own and was struggling with the measurements so this is perfect timing.🎉
Thanks, numbers and narh are like a puzzle in my head. I ALWAYS struggle with numbers and math. They seem to float around my brain and Iit’s hard to organize them in my head. I can't do math in my head. Thanks again for the tips. God bless.
GREAT tutorial! I have always been able to read a ruler, but I know I could not have taught how to measure as clear and concise as you have. I think you have made a lot of people very happy!
😅thank you, thank you, thank you. You have explained this so well. I whised my teachers taught this this well. It takes on who has math issues to teach another 5 stars. !!!
I took a screen shot of the ruler with all the fractions on it. I printed it and now I have a very readable way to see eighths and 16ths. Thank you, thank you!! 😊
It's taken me a long time to understand the measurements on a ruler. I've gotten some of it, but I sometimes still have trouble. This did help me see what each line means.
You can also just count those little lines and find how many 16ths you have or want. And then convert! So…one, two, three little lines is 3/16ths. One, two, three, four little lines is 4/16ths or 2/8 or 1/4ths. Sorry, ex-math teacher.
I find it interesting that you calll the division of 4 parts of an inch as 4th, I live in Australia and we were told they are quarters, funny how we can say the same thing in different ways and it still makes sense,! 😊
Maymay This Tutorial will hep so many that can’t understand it or have vision problems. In the Score Board I Color Code the lines 1/16 Red 1/8 Orange 3/16. Yellow and so on. For the First entire Inch. Than Repeat same colors Second Inch. Hope you Follow. Also keep a copy of your color code ruler on paper by scoring a paper and color it in. One can even Laminate it. Learn this from Xannero1 over 10 years ago she made this video.
This just blew my mind why did this seem so hard for 52 years??? Holy crap, so actually it wasn’t me it was the teaching. Not dyslexia, it was dysteachia after all!!
Do you have any tactile ruler with raise lines. I'm visually impaired I'm looking for something that I can easily use. However I have a braille ruler but it only it can only measure by 1/4" 1/2" 3/4" and 1" it doesn't have the 8's or the 16's
Hi, we don't have a ruler with raised numbers in the store. I did find a few rulers with large numbers and braille, if this is something that might be helpful let me know and I can get you those links, thanks

You did a great job explaining this. My dad was a carpenter so I’ve never had problems with measuring but lots of people do..
I absolutely love math and always have even in my youth. (I’m 71) Excellent explanation Maymay!😘
BRAVA!!!!! I have cut more fabric and papers incorrectly because my brain “just says no!” Thank you so much for this visual aid. 👏🏽🙌🏽💜
What a neat way to explain!! 🎉
THANK YOU.....I needed that visual. I learn better that way. It sticks in my brain better.
Very good presentation = Thank you.
I couldn't read the smaller #'s on a ruler until I started making cards & now it's easy peesy. Great tutorial. 😊

Love this. Always been bad about reading a ruler. I always did the inch number followed by ticky marks. So it was 3' with 7 ticky marks.
Thanks, numbers and narh are like a puzzle in my head. I ALWAYS struggle with numbers and math. They seem to float around my brain and Iit’s hard to organize them in my head. I can't do math in my head. Thanks again for the tips. God bless.

Thanks so much, Maymay. I struggle a bit with things like 3/8ths but if I am patient enough I can do it.
Hello friend. Very nice sharing my friend. Full support from Morocco 🌹👍
This was so helpful. My husband is a carpenter and he always has to re-explain how to read the ruler for me😂
Great way to describe an inch on a ruler.

Thank you!!!

I taught myself to read a ruler when I started making cards, I was in my 30s then! 😂
You need to make a ser of rulers. Clear rulers with just 16ths..another with just 8ths and another with just quarters. Sell them as a set
👍
