Mmm I'm part of group of people "What's happen in Transparency Panel - Make Mask Button -click on Edit - Paste in front - Click on Click" Why doesn't work? Where I Wrong?
Zeppolone1978 I was having the same issue but finally figured it out. When you click "make mask", uncheck "Clip" immediately below the "make mask" button and your brush texture will appear again as normal. Then you can do the rest of the steps in the tutorial. Hopefully this helps for you. :)
Nice tut, clear and concise and well presented, fast enough to get the core messages, but slow enough to follow and understand. I'm an Ai illustrator of 15 years but always good to see how different people use the software in different ways. Thanks for the stipples.
i'm currently studying to become a graphic designer and im happy to find some fun ways to try and experiment with illustrator, thank you its very helpful ^^
i have been dealing with various techniques like grain effect but it doesn't satisfy me, then your video appeared on the side list while i was watching other clips, thank you very much for sharing your knowledge and files sir :)
if anyone is having a problem with the clipping mask just place the shape over the top of the brush stroke(s) and select both (the brush stroke(s) & the shape) then press CTRL+7 or command+7 for Mac
I am doing graphic design at university at the moment and you have no idea how much this helped me! This is exactly what i needed for my current design project! Thank you so much (:
Oh my, you just saved me with this super handy tutorial! I had troubles with creating stipple shading, but now I can do it. Within 8 minutes you opened my eyes on how to make curves faster, shade with mask and blob brush, and how to color in quickly (though I've been using Illustrator for 3 years now and have always been suffering from slow and complex drawing process) I'd say "Thank you so much", but it cannot show all my gratitude ^_^ Good luck in your work!
I've been trying to contact you, but I don't have a Twitter account, so I hope you read this. I've been using your brushes to create scientific archaeological drawings and they look amazing, almost like real hand-drawing. Thank you for the brushes!
I had the same problem but figured it out after playing around for a bit and figured I'd share what I found. What you do is lock all layers except for the one with the stippling, highlight all the stippling, right click, then create a compound path. After this make the take the shape you want to make a clipping mask with (making sure its in a different layer), make it black. Make sure that the layer with the stippling is on top of the layer with the solid shape you wish to make a clipping mask with. Then go to the side panel and click make mask, after clicking make mask make sure the clip AND make mask boxes are checked.
Thanks for the awesome video! Love the effect. May I ask how to expand and simplify the stipple shading brush after using it in the transparency mask? I am wanting to use this in a logo design. Thanks for any help offered.
For the ones that have some troubles with the mask, here's what I did and worked like a charm: 1. Copy she shape you want to add texture to 2. Lock the layer, which contains the shape 3. Create new layer 4. Brushtool drawing 5. Group the brushes you drew 6. Go to Transperency ->Make Mask 7. This is where magic happens - Ctrl + Shift + V (to paste the shape you copied in step 1 at the same place) You're welcome :)
Thanks, it was really helpful! Just one thing, when I export the file it loses a lot of details, is there a trick to avoid this and have a much better quality?
how do you get your cuts to work so well? i have smart guides on but the cuts are still pretty far off. also When I do the clipping mask it just deletes all the stippling. Any idea what I did wrong?
As soon as I press "Make Mask" the stippling brush strokes just go blank. There is only 1 empty stroke remaining. The layer mask thumbnail is black and "Clip" is already ticked (not like in the video). Unticking it does nothing. I don't get what I am doing wrong?

I've tried pressing F to flip my Arc but it didn't work. It changed my interface instead. Do you know why this happened?
From 6:56 not working, I'm on CC2017 version. Help please
Subbed mate!
